G Christian Anderson Jr decommits from Michigan
After the news that Phat Phat Brooks has affirmed his commitment, this is unfortunate news. Anderson has been one of the most prolific scorers and shooters in the country and matches the type of player that seems like he would’ve been an impactful player who isn’t an NBA flight risk. I assume that he and May had a discussion and they parted ways
That kid is going to have a hell of a time getting his shot off early in his career.
He also is a ball dominant PG which we just witnessed a whole season with one of those.
I’ve never been real high on the kid so for me I’m fine with this.
I think May is like Beilein. Efficiency rules all and "ooh and aah" shots dont count extra in his world. MAAR over AI type coaching.
I miss maar
And Eli Brooks.
I swear MAAR has never lost a game of 1v1.
A two-star recruit, iirc
lol. AI type coaching, huh. interesting.
In one of the games up at Breslin that M wound up winning, Sparty was making some spectacular dunks much to the delight of the crowd. Beilein told the team at half, don't worry about the dunks, we'll keep making our 3s.

He shot 49% from 3. That's pretty efficient. Why do we have to trash him just because he decommitted after the coach got fired?
He's kinda a weird prospect. While he's an insanely good shooter, he's probably 5'11", not super athletic, doesn't have a great handle, and I'm not really sure who he can defend. It always seemed like we were betting on him growing to be wing size since his dad is apparently like 6'6" but that hasn't happened
I had a buddy growing up whose dad was 6’4” and his mom was 4’10.5”. He ended up 5’6”. His brother is 6’. Bummer when you get the short jeans.
Short jeans are definitely a bummer.
Of all the “short jeans” pics on the internet you went with that one.
and that one dude's tattoos seemed like a such a good idea....20 yrs ago.
Sounds familiar...
It's important that his style fits the coaching approach. Better to assess now than find out later. Wish the kid all the success in the world, and hope we find a primary ball handler who is far more physically imposing.
Probably a long shot but any chance Beilein suggests bringing back Yaklich, who I believe was just let go from his head coaching gig?
Have you seen this kid play? No I don't think you have. He is now 6 foot 1 and can shoot 30 ft 3s and make them consistently. He is going to be a big loss. If you are going to rip on the kid get your facts right please. That is all that asked. Untrue things no matter how many times you say them will never be true.

I’ve watched him play multiple times, he’s not close to 6’1 , save the lecture about getting “facts straight” when you clearly don’t
He is basketball 6 foot 1. No one is ever listed there actual height. But your comments about him were way off and uninformed. Have you watched him play in Germany or for Oak Hill in person? Highly doubt it. I have sent him in person this year at his new school
He’s not close to 6’1. He’s also very slight of build (smaller than Dig was in high school) I never made another comment about him. I’ve watched multiple games of his in EYBL scholastic play, he’s not a good athlete and since you watched him at Oak Hill you must’ve seen his complete lack of ability (and desire) to play defense as well.
You know who else was a 5’11” ball-dominant PG with limited athleticism and underwhelming defensive abilities who could shoot 3s?
Spike Albrecht
Mike Smith
Max Abmas
All those guys were part of deep tournament runs.
Christian Anderson is going to be a major loss.
Two things can be true at the same time?
- I want M BB to be excellent and believe D. May can do it
- My football recruiting focus got way less detailed in the last decade; so, each time (this month) that I see one of these, I think “oh no, I hope that name isn’t leaving the football class and then am primarily relieved that it isn’t (yes, in this case I believed the subject-line “G” meant “OL/OG”)
I hear you. People could be more detailed in their announcements.
Posters should take a second, reread it, make the title make sense. Make the links works and so forth.
The link works.
The body of the post is pretty obviously taking about a basketball player.
What is the issue here? Could the title say MBB?, sure, but just click on the post and read it.
Just to be clear: there’s nothing broken about the thread. I was just (light fare/pillow talk) opening a conversation on whether there’s something wrong with me.
I had to re-read it because all it made me think about was a team with both George Washington and a descendant of Hans Christian Andersen.
If he was a Center that would have cleared it up.
Michigan is now down to five players for next year at most. That will change quickly, so I'm not lamenting that fact. It's just a little remarkable. I don't remember the roster ever being this...nonexistent.
Beilein's first team didn't have a lot of returning guys (although it did retain DeShawn Sims). Fortunately - unlike 2007 - the portal exists now.
And Corperryale Harris. And Udoh.
Udoh, yes (although he transferred out soon after).
Manny was a recruit at the time who kept his commitment. He never played for Amaker.
You're right. I got that one wrong. But mostly I just wanted to say Corperryale.
I tutored Manny and DeShawn one time (as in, one session). It was a Classics class (I was a classics minor). Humble brag, I was the only undergrad who was hired by the university to tutor athletes on the recommendation of a professor, usually it was grad school students. This was a big deal to me at the time, because I usually tutored wrestling and volleyball athletes, not basketball (and football had separate tutors). I haven't told that story in years, and am very grateful for one more retelling lol.
And DeShawn Swims, IIRC.
Feels like Williams and Jace won’t be here although nothing ever gets said either way who knows.
A little disappointing too is that the FAU guys aren’t moving quickly to the portal but no clear statement on their future either.
GW3 seemed open to returning but we haven’t heard about Washington and May even having a serious discussion yet.
Dusty has been a busy boy reaching out to guards in the portal though.
I can’t get over Jace was on scholarship. That is ridiculous for the level he can play at
May needs that ship
At worst it’s one more year. It will be okay.
Jace was higher a higher ranked recruit than many Beilein guys. Juwan and his staff were just terrible at development.
The other thing is, we have like 7 open scholarships and Jace only has a year left I believe. It is highly unlikely May is going to bring in 8 more guys who are going to be a factor. Jace taking up a scholarship for another year doesn’t really matter.
Another uninformed take. Wish people who knew basketball would talk not people who think they know it. Gets old ready very bad comments or opinions.
Ironic.
Care to elaborate? Or is the sign of a “good comment/opinion” just telling other people theirs aren’t good?
I’d be glad to explain my point further. It’s pretty well thought out and informed, so what’s the issue?
He was only on scholly when we had an unused one available, He never took one away from an actual recruit.
So I was trying to post an image of a blank page below your comment Eric with the inscription “Tabula Rasa” and I got blocked by MgoBlog for inappropriate content.
Not sure what to make of that. I’ve definitely posted far more “inappropriate” content over the years than the Latin term for blank slate. 🤔
MGoCensor favors palimpsest.
What's Michael Barrett up to nowadays?
We aren't alone. Minnesota carried over 1 or 2 players last year. PSU and Nebraska have had some years with maybe 3? It isn't a formula for sucess, but if it really gets up to 5, that's going to be on the low end of normal around CBB for the foreseeable future.
(I mean, we had 2 years with 5 freshman in the 90s. That means, at most, just 7 players carried over. And, haha, no, I am not equating anything other than roster carryover)
When he was recruited originally I expressed some skepticism that his shot mechanics would hold up, so I've been fairly surprised that he's maintained excellent shooting numbers. That said, given his size, I was still unsure how it would translate to college.
Unfortunate to lose a good shooter and scorer, but I'm not heartbroken over this one.
It will translate to at best an all offense no defense player who cannot defend his position. We just had that.
Which is fine for a team who he is a luxury for. That's not us.
