Sean Magee expected to return to Michigan as general manager for football
Former Associate AD for Football at Michigan before leaving for the Bears. Returning to what will likely be a more capacious role involving NIL and all aspects of managing a contemporary college football program

Great. Is he bringing a tourniquet?

dramatic

I hope he can help bring a National Championship to UM.
It’s been 33 days. The drought’s gone on long enough.
February 10th, 2024 at 12:28 PM ^
Don't know anything about him, but this is a very needed position. Hope he's got what it takes.
February 10th, 2024 at 12:29 PM ^
I also know nothing about him but I guess we can assume that Sherrone and whoever is advising him--and I suppose Warde, for what that's worth--consider him a capable administrator
February 10th, 2024 at 1:27 PM ^
Not sure that's the vote of confidence you think it is.
February 10th, 2024 at 3:31 PM ^
If you're referring to Warde, that was the meaning of my "for what that's worth" caveat
February 10th, 2024 at 4:48 PM ^
I think he meant describing someone as a "capable administrator"!!
I'm hoping we'd reach higher than that, but in all honesty that may be Warde's ideal employee!
February 10th, 2024 at 7:43 PM ^
Let’s hope his hands aren’t tied in the NIL activities.
February 11th, 2024 at 4:44 PM ^
Michigan law says the university can't do any NIL activities, so yeah... They are.
February 10th, 2024 at 12:29 PM ^
Beat me by a second.
Your use of the word “capacious” means your post should stay and mine should be deleted. Plus one for word usage.
February 10th, 2024 at 12:30 PM ^
Lol I appreciate it. Always annoying to get beaten by a minute or two
February 10th, 2024 at 12:29 PM ^
He has been here before but I don't recall much about him. Was he connected to Navy football?
February 10th, 2024 at 12:30 PM ^
One of the guys that helped Connor Stallions get hired by Michigan. They worked together at Navy.
February 10th, 2024 at 12:31 PM ^
Well considering that cheating is more rampant in college football than ever--via NIL inducements and tampering--maybe we need a guy who knows the ropes
/s... sort of
February 10th, 2024 at 12:46 PM ^
Helped bring on Stalions and coming from a stint at a top notch NFL organization. What's not to love?

The US Military is in decline.
We used to know all the signs of the Chinese & Russian militaries.

Are you working with the Japanese now, Putin?
February 10th, 2024 at 6:37 PM ^
Is this a joke post?

Sean Magee announced as Chargers GM in 3, 2, 1...

This is the premium insider information I come to mgoblog to find. Thx for the audible chuckle my friend. Well played.

How do I subscribe to get more of this quality insider info?
February 10th, 2024 at 7:29 PM ^
Damn, that was good.
February 10th, 2024 at 11:58 PM ^
Well yeah of course this guy is going to want to go to the NFL where he can sleep and see other humans that share his DNA. Come on guys its an easy call.
February 10th, 2024 at 12:37 PM ^
Seems like the first indication of where we're headed in the new NIL era. Not sure of what our vector will be be, but at least it's pointed in the right direction.
February 10th, 2024 at 12:41 PM ^
Cool. We got that guy, we got one of the guys who drives a truck, I think we got the lunch lady, too. We are set!
February 10th, 2024 at 12:49 PM ^
This post is hilarious and you deserve many points, my sir.
February 10th, 2024 at 7:46 PM ^
Let’s upvote XM to 10k points so he can trade them in for some MGoSwag!
February 10th, 2024 at 6:12 PM ^
they must have had so much fun in pre-rehearsals on that one. both comic geniuses.
and hey, how 'bout those wings? beating a division-leading vancouver team in OT. LGRW.
February 10th, 2024 at 6:16 PM ^
Game drove me nuts but at the end they got 2 points.
February 10th, 2024 at 12:41 PM ^
Good step for the program. This is exactly what Klatt has talked about. In the new era of college football, a GM is needed to take some of the responsibility off the head coach.
February 10th, 2024 at 1:08 PM ^
Clinkscale leaving on the same day we hire an Associate AD who will likely coordinate NIL is a signal of the the future of college football. It's going to be far less rah-rah super recruiting position coaches and far more NIL fund raisers and administrators.
February 10th, 2024 at 5:07 PM ^
Beg to disagree. Less a super recruiting position? If we could clone Brad Holmes ability to evaluate talent with Courtney Morgan’s ability to know and get along with everybody connected to high school football then we have the ideal candidate. Notice I didn’t say administrator…that is the number two position in charge of keeping it organized and funded. But who am I?. Just a guy reading a blog.
February 10th, 2024 at 12:43 PM ^
So he left and THEN we got good?
February 10th, 2024 at 12:46 PM ^
The "return to Michigan" part made me remember Calvin Magee. RIP, Calvin. Welcome, Sean!
February 10th, 2024 at 12:53 PM ^
We *are* nearing Easter... maybe we should have expected the second coming of Magee.
February 10th, 2024 at 12:51 PM ^
Seems like a Warde hire more than a Sherrone hire, based on his previous role:
February 10th, 2024 at 2:44 PM ^
I think he had a similar role from 2017 to 2022 when he left and he was previously the director of player personal under Navy before that.
By all accounts this is the first step of really building out and increasing the size of our recruiting department. One area where Sherrone Moore has some different ideas compared to Harbaugh.
February 10th, 2024 at 3:49 PM ^
Creating the position makes a ton of sense. No issue there.
But hiring someone whose experience is from the Michigan athletic department seems less than ideal -- like we just hired an extension of Warde. I would've liked to hire someone from an overachieving, smaller program ... or at least someone with experience from other programs and an outsider perspective.
February 10th, 2024 at 3:57 PM ^
He was very involved in recruiting previously. Both at Michigan and Navy. And was about to get hired for a similar job at Oklahoma before we made the offer.
February 10th, 2024 at 4:21 PM ^
He was also pretty tight with a lot of the defensive staff in the 2021 year. Used to see him at Shawn Nua's house frequently.
February 10th, 2024 at 5:12 PM ^
Can't imagine why someone would rather live in Ann Arbor than enchanting Norman, Oklahoma.
February 10th, 2024 at 7:51 PM ^
That’s a ton of responsibility; let’s hope he helps gets us more of the better players that come her to win for The Team.
February 10th, 2024 at 9:54 PM ^
I think the idea is we are going to build out the recruiting department and hire lots of people around him in addition so it’s not all on one person.
February 10th, 2024 at 1:00 PM ^
Whoopee.
.
February 10th, 2024 at 1:18 PM ^
I got a like from George Helow on X when he posted about Magee being a good hire. I said we need a linebackers coach and if you can find a dl coach and a defensive backs coach that would be swell also. Maybe he is entertaining coming back? I noticed he has liked all of the coaching additions so far.
February 10th, 2024 at 1:28 PM ^
Maybe he can provide some insight on the 2023 Alabama team
