These guys win the off season every year.

Let's see what happens in season this year.

Unfortunately, with 12 teams in the playoffs, it would be hard to imagine them not making the playoffs, even if we go down to Columbus and beat them.

That's how they sell the position to these top ranked guys by telling each one, "Hey, odds are the other guys won't pan out but we believe you are the one who will prove to be worthy of your 5 star ranking." That, or the insane amount of money they are presenting these recruits is something they just can't turn down. As always, let's see how these kids pan out on the field.

I don't share as much optimism as everyone else. I think Day figured out the defense with Knowles. They were salty. They were also a missed kick away from a National Title the previous year. I just think it's okay to respect the excellence of your rival and feel better about beating them when you do.

Hard to be concerned after the way things have gone but M also just lost an all time great coach. We'll see how things go. Just going to keep enjoying the title :)

Brian said as much in the MGoBlog roundtable.  Football and basketball are professional sports.

If Michigan can hold onto its current football roster, it will have a chance to repeat as B1G champs and maybe even national champs in 2024.  But then the first round talent of the 2022 class will depart, and at present, it looks like a serious drop off is coming for 2025.

As Brian said, compensating players is "pay for work" and there's nothing wrong with it.  A transaction is willfully executed and fair to both sides.  Under the present laws and rules, there needs to be some indirection with NIL compensation, but with court challenges like the one Tennessee is bringing, that need is very likely to fall away soon.

If Michigan doesn't adapt--or better yet lead--the talent deficit versus the elite programs will be too big to overcome.

At some point you know, Ryan Day is 56-8 as HC.

Reading this blog, you'd think OSU is looking to fire him for 3 straight UM knockouts.

They aren't going away, enjoy what we did against him, but they recruit nasty, and haven't had their DL/LB results lately, which is why they lost a few.

I respect the rivalry - I’m old school.

The Buckeyes have recruited better - according to rankings for a very long time.  It’s been more than a decade since OSU’s roster was not ranked in the Top Five - Total Team Talent.  And, their roster is usually Top Three - behind Bama and Georgia.

The questions for The Game this year will be - how effectively does Michigan game plan, how flexible are the schemes, will the new coordinators both analyze their O & D, and how will Michigan disguise their coverages which creates uncertainty and confusion.

If Michigan can sustain the culture - more goodness is certainly a possibility.

I went to a south Florida 7-7 tournament with top south Florida prospects.  None of them consistently hear from Michigan staff.  It’s a problem.

Let's check in on some of the recent Florida commits... Chris Ewald and Raylen Willson never made it to campus. Damani Dent transferred, Micah Pollard is still around. Keon Sabb is big time. Jake Guarnera on his way to campus.

It could be simply that they think the resources are better used elsewhere. You're trying to pull a kid from the deep south with UF, Florida State, and any other SEC school who wants a majority of the kids worth taking. Going to be hard to gain traction even with a national title and sending kids to the league. Need kids willing to travel far from home and deny a bag?

Their Stalions investigation and us winning the Natty has broken them. It's so very clear at this point. They've completely sold their soul to illegal NIL use and tampering. Bringing in Ross Bjork as AD is just confirmation of that

I'm going to refrain on making "offered" jokes...since I'm late to the party.  I'll be disappointed if I scroll through the comments and see that I'm the first to make the joke.

It is pretty simple for them, go all out for 2024 season since the schedule is pretty easy for them. Their challenging games are Oregon, PSU and Michigan. They will face us being either undefeated or have lost one game.

They sure are spending the $$ to load up on mercenaries. Do I wish M ha more 5 stars? Yes. But is going this route a guarantee for success? look at A&M. This is likely to implode and there's no way you keep that roster happy on the field.
