OT: TN AD's Statement

Sorry I was unable to imbed the write up.
But, quite a different response compared to our AD

Funny that people care about this so much. Bill Lee should have bigger fish to fry and stop being secretive.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:17 PM ^
See that Ward? That's how it's done. Not this namby-pamby weak sauce garbage you throw out there (ok, you get credit for the one good formal response you had during the Harbaugh stuff, but that's literally it).
February 1st, 2024 at 2:26 PM ^
That would take a set of nuts and Warde doesn’t have em. I admire people who get fucked with and give it right back ten fold. Go TN!
February 1st, 2024 at 2:48 PM ^
I generally agree, but:
- The NCAA is clearly enforcing rules differently from school to school
- The NCAA and other coaches aren't on a mission to take down Tennessee's head coach
- Most importantly, what does Tennessee have to lose?
I've kind of made my peace with how this all wrapped up at Michigan. Jim wanted to go back to the NFL. Could the university have done a better job sticking up for him? Absolutely. Would he still be here if they had? Maybe? Who knows. It ended with the detractors getting their pound of flesh and Jim is gone, but they will have to suffer our 15-0 national title. We got our title, but lost our coach. Must have been a truly grand compromise, since nobody is really fully happy.
February 1st, 2024 at 3:19 PM ^
I'm fully happy.
February 1st, 2024 at 3:46 PM ^
Yes, but those bastards will always claim it’s tainted and Harbaugh fled to escape punishment. Because Michigan didn’t fight and shut this shit down when it came out. That matters to me.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:57 PM ^
If, as you say they are, that they are indeed bastards...
then "don't let the bastards get you down".
Or, as a mutual friend of ours likes to say, "Be better. Not bitter."
Thanks, Jim. Go Blue.

While it may be Warde, I also think this is a philosophical thing at Michigan about trying to stay above the fray - extending all the way up to Santa Ono - while the folks at UT are willing to get down and dirty.
As was mentioned, the chancellor AND the AD have now issued statements. I can't see Santa or Warde doing so.
February 1st, 2024 at 3:07 PM ^
As I’ve said before, Michigan’s top priority is to protect the brand. So, yes, stay above the fray, not do or say anything that might make someone, somewhere think something possibly unsavory about UM.
February 1st, 2024 at 10:10 PM ^
Michigan is not Tennessee culturally or academically and I guess it takes a Michigan staffer, student, or alumnus to get it.
February 1st, 2024 at 3:06 PM ^
Tennessee also has a lot of experience responding to NCAA claims for violating their rules, so we shouldn't be that surprised they've got this snotty consternation down.
February 1st, 2024 at 3:10 PM ^
We need to let our lawyers do the writing. The “Dead Chad” letter to the B1G Deputy Ding-dong was a work of art. We showed we can hang, for just a moment, then pitifully retreated when it looked like The Brand might get a little dirt on it. Harbaugh leaving makes it somewhat of a moot point, but…
If Sherrone ever needs that 🔥 behind him, will university leadership show the will to sustain it? I’m skeptical. This is our concern, Dude.

No lies detected.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:26 PM ^
can we hire this guy?
February 1st, 2024 at 8:47 PM ^
I think Seth wrote that for him.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:39 PM ^
That opening line... it sound so familiar. Almost as if it was used by another program just recently.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:43 PM ^
Thank you! I kept trying and could not grab it
February 1st, 2024 at 3:21 PM ^
Damn, he threw in a "nebulous". Guy means business.
February 1st, 2024 at 6:05 PM ^
I am going to take the bullets, but here is a reminder about Warde's statement to BIG back in November:
February 1st, 2024 at 6:22 PM ^
That was a well written response and as fast as they folded and didn’t follow through, left it toothless and zero bite.
I still believe that had they fought in court and Warde came with the legit contract offer, Jim may have signed and not looked at the NFL. Pure speculation but actions do matter to Jim.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:13 PM ^
Translation: everyone is using NIL as compensation for services provided, time for the NCAA to get with the times. Warde Manuel, you understand that, right?
February 1st, 2024 at 2:14 PM ^
Maybe he could write something similar for us?
February 1st, 2024 at 2:26 PM ^
Maybe he can come work for us.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:14 PM ^
That's spicy. We should offer him Warde's job.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:15 PM ^
I really hope we are witnessing the slow death of the NCAA.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:23 PM ^
Not so slow my friend.
They were done after the Alston case. Now everyone’s just getting kicks in before they go into the ground
February 1st, 2024 at 3:06 PM ^
everyone except...
February 1st, 2024 at 2:15 PM ^
So in less than a week their chancellor, state, and AD have all told the NCAA to go fuck themselves?
Wow, what's that like? Seems nice
February 1st, 2024 at 2:45 PM ^
Tennessee is doing exactly what I thought (hoped) we were finally going to do when we filed the temporary injunction and actually fight back for once.
But our beloved University is ruled by spineless, gutless, acquiescent cowards who are deathly afraid of rocking the institutional boat and upsetting the powers that be. Which is why we self-impose a three game ban on our HC for the crime on not admiting to buying two cheeseburgers. And it's why we allow the B1G to impose an additional 4 game ban on our HC for a low-level staffer's transgresssions and say and do nothing about it.
I'm so jealous of Tennessee fans right now. Their leadership actually has the balls to fight for their program and ours does not. Sidenote - Regent Acker said in his front page column that he reads MgoBlog regularly. I sure hope he reads this thread.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:50 PM ^
Envy is not the way to go. Tennessee sucks and still will.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:58 PM ^
Don't forget, they could have won the title if connor stallions didn't tear Hendon Hooker's ACL.
February 1st, 2024 at 3:17 PM ^
Michigan did release two scathing statements, one from the President, the other from the AD...and then filed a lawsuit against the conference.. and then won their third BIG title in a row forcing the conference commission to hand them the trophy and then hide....and then won the Rose Bowl....and then won the national championship.... and then have the NCAA release a statement fully vindicating the title.
So, I think all things considered, I would not trade with a Tennessee fan.
February 1st, 2024 at 6:53 PM ^
Too bad all that tough talk wasn't followed up with action. Instead, it was followed with cowardice, as the Old guy said.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:15 PM ^
{Ryan Day Voice} I WANNA KNOW WHERE WARDE MANUEL IS RIGHT NOW
February 1st, 2024 at 2:16 PM ^
NCAA delenda est
February 1st, 2024 at 2:24 PM ^
I hate Tennessee but I like this statement because I hate the NCAA even more.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:38 PM ^
Yes, in this case the enemy of my enemy is definitely my friend. At least for the moment. I'll hate Tennessee again later.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:47 PM ^
I came to this post expecting to shake my fist, but I wound up nodding my head.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:26 PM ^
Meanwhile, the NCAA told us that we should be happy to have information leaked so that our championship will be without blemish.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:39 PM ^
A statement I actually agree with.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:27 PM ^
Please don't flame me too bad. Warde gets a lot of flak, and deservedly so based on his public commentary.
But what is the likelihood that he only represents the views of the people that empower him (whether that's UofM administration, or even the biggest donors)?
Based on the same idea that the Big Ten or NCAA commish sounds like an idiot, but is simply doing as their bosses want.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:31 PM ^
I very highly doubt Santa Ono has this view.
February 1st, 2024 at 3:44 PM ^
Even if Ono is his boss, does he have the total freedom to guide or fire Warde? If he does, wouldn't we have seen something by now?
That doesn't eliminate the "big donors" part of it too.
February 1st, 2024 at 2:34 PM ^
"Please don't flame"
You are lucky points are broken.
February 1st, 2024 at 3:07 PM ^
The first rule about MGoPoints is that we do not *talk* about MGoPoints.
February 1st, 2024 at 3:08 PM ^
:-) I've been getting away with it for years.
February 1st, 2024 at 3:24 PM ^
yeah, that's the least of the stuff that rgard throws around here
February 1st, 2024 at 4:13 PM ^
His downfield precision is pretty good. We should recruit him.
