Roman Wilson among top performers at Senior Bowl practice
He was viewed as a mid-round pick by most draft experts but put on a stellar performance on the first day which has turned heads from many NFL scouts...
...Wilson has already impressed with his practice performances, but could put himself into the second round with a good interview or two.
Sick grab...

Hope Roman is around long enough for the Chargers to pick him. With Justin Herbert throwing to him, Wilson could break Puka Nacua's rookie receiving records.
February 1st, 2024 at 8:53 AM ^
Yeah Harbaugh has always been the type of coach to break rookie receiving records.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:24 AM ^
If the Chargers draft Roman, please look me up. I'll take the under on 1,486 receiving yards and give you great odds!

Want to guess how many 1000-yard receivers Harbaugh has had in his WHOLE CAREER?
3. Michael Crabtree once and Anquan Boldin twice.
That’s IT. Harbaugh returns to the NFL having never had a 1000-yard WR in his college coaching career. Not one.
February 1st, 2024 at 12:05 PM ^
3 in his 4 years in the NFL you say? Nice
February 1st, 2024 at 9:12 PM ^
With 3-4 extra games, don’t forget.
I was honestly SHOCKED to see that. Harbaugh’s 49ers teams were a step and a half back when it came to scoring: they kicked a lot of field goals, but on a Harbaughffense Scale there were astonishingly few TDs. They won games with defense. So it was unexpected to see those 1000-yard receivers.
I’m going to watch the Chargers with much interest this year; I’m really really REALLY interested in learning what Jim Harbaugh does with that roster, seeing if he’s the Harbaugh of old who will get creative with the entire offense…or the Harbaugh of new who will get creative only with the rushing attack
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:54 AM ^
Harbaugh’s organizing principle is less about run vs. pass and more about only doing what’s necessary. You can tell because, even within the run game, Harbaugh wouldn’t do certain things (like run his QB1) unless he had to.
Surely he gets that you have to throw more in the NFL.

The Combine's going to be very important to him in regards to his draft slotting. What he cant do is score low on his RAS score but I could see him going as high as mid 2nd or as low as low 4th depending on his results there.
NFL scouts put exponentially more weight on the Combine than they do the Senior Bowl.
February 1st, 2024 at 8:55 AM ^
Except to the teams who have their coaches running the senior bowl. Its pretty much a lock that the franchises that have their coaches running the game are going to select at least one player off those rosters far higher than their perceived value.
February 1st, 2024 at 8:55 AM ^
Scouts love the numbers but the senior bowl practices are very very important to them.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:16 AM ^
He's been noted as "unguardable," and recorded speed reaching at 20.07 miles per hour, making him the third-fastest among National team wide receivers.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:03 AM ^
Cooper Kupp is one off the top of my head where he cooked everyone at the senior bowl and elevated his draft stock
He was a lock to be good because Hue Jackson coached the team that year and still didn't draft him.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:20 AM ^
In a parallel time frame the Browns draft Cooper Kupp in the 3rd round of the 2017 draft instead of Larry Ogunjobi and Josh Allen over Baker Mayfield as the top pick in 2018 and both have Hue Jackson as their HC.
Fast forward to 2024. Both Allen & Kupp are now out of the league and never to be heard from again.

That's what would have happened to Tom Brady if he'd had the misfortune of being drafted by the Lions in the 2000 draft.* He'd have been beaten into a bloody pulp playing for those Lions teams and would have been out of the league in five years.)
(*The Lions brain trust had several opportunities to select Brady, but they figured they didn't need to and instead drafted Mike McMahon and Joey Harrington in the next two drafts.)

I would be shocked if Wilson didn't run in the 4.3s. Also, I think the Senior Bowl will also aid Wilson in that it will lead scouts to look at his film. Wilson is open a lot but JJ just sometimes didn't find him or Wilson would draw safety help leading to someone else being open
February 1st, 2024 at 12:50 PM ^
But do they? Senior Bowl stars get picked alot earlier than projected, no? Like Rashee Rice.

Take that Catch to the bank!
February 1st, 2024 at 8:51 AM ^
He'll go 2nd round.
Slot receivers are a high value position rn, and that's where they'll probably play him 70% of his snaps.
Add in the ability to be a downfield speed merchant that can take the top off the defense, and he is a great value pick.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:18 AM ^
If he runs in the 4.3s and the scouts can confirm the speed they see on the field, then he has a shot at the 2nd round.
February 1st, 2024 at 10:35 AM ^
He's going to make a killing running slot fades in the NFL, I'm calling it now.
February 1st, 2024 at 10:37 AM ^
I would love for my Bengals to draft Wilson or Corum in second-third round range. Need new RBs and slot receiver.
February 1st, 2024 at 8:51 AM ^
Good dude, hope he gets his shot.
February 1st, 2024 at 8:54 AM ^
He’ll move up again once he runs.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:17 AM ^
Imo, Wilson made one of the 10 greatest receptions in Michigan football history with the leaping grab on Michigan's tying drive in regulation against Alabama. I'm hard pressed to think of a more important one given the importance of the game. Hope he has a great career and expect that to happen.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:11 AM ^
I could see him having a really good showing at the combine, in addition to the praise he has been getting during these practices. That should put him in the 2nd round.
I think he is gunna have a nice career in the league. Underrated in a lot of ways. He's mostly known for his speed, but he developed a lot throughout his time at Michigan, and showed the ability to not only be a reliable target, but also made some really tough catches as well. His route running and ability to get separation improved a lot too.
I could see him blowing up in the right system.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:33 AM ^
Did they not watch him this season or check out any film? It's not as if Wilson was on some mid-level G5 team that played vs questionable competition.
Whenever it gets reported someone's performance at the Senior Bowl or other similar event is moving them up draft boards it makes me feel like it's 100% propaganda from the organization hosting the game to get more players to agree to play in them.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:56 AM ^
That might make sense if it were people who organizing the event who were hyping players up. But in this case its reporters who cover the draft and spend alot of time talking to scouts and GMs. They have no motivation to hype up the Senior Bowl.
February 1st, 2024 at 11:46 AM ^
How do you explain all the negative comments about the QBs?
February 1st, 2024 at 1:01 PM ^
At these practices they are playing against NFL prospects. Even in the B10 he was not playing against NFL prospects weekly. So it's a different level of insight and competition so when you stand out there it means more than torching a guy who is going to be a Bowling Green graduate and move on to sales next year.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:44 AM ^
Good for Roman, who seems like a great guy.
It's always interesting to see actual heights of players. Wilson was listed at 6'0" as a recruit and at Michigan, but he's 5'10".
February 1st, 2024 at 11:20 AM ^
It always is weird when teams make players taller in the stats. Wilson looks 5'10". It doesn't matter. He is very fast, has good hands, and most important, seems to be able to run routes that gets him open and separation. Lot's of fast guys out there, but the guys that make a difference are the ones who can run a route and take advantage of that speed. He's not as good as Mario Manningham at that, but is probably better inside. Hope he does well.
February 1st, 2024 at 12:40 PM ^
I'm still holding out hope for a (very) late growth spurt so I can finally live up to my measurements listed in my high school's football program.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:55 AM ^
So you're telling me all those anonymous coaches who were trashing our receivers as not very good didn't know what they were talking about?
February 1st, 2024 at 10:32 AM ^
Roman Wilson has all the skills to be an excellent receiver in the NFL. Wishing him the best and hope he lands on a team where he will flourish.
Will be interesting to see how many Wolverines get drafted.
February 1st, 2024 at 10:43 AM ^
Let's go Roman!
February 1st, 2024 at 11:24 AM ^
Love seeing Roman get the hype and agree his late catch against Bama is an all-timer. I wonder though if this performance is further reinforcement for recruits that UM isn’t the place to go if you want to shine and be a high pick in NFL. Also wonder if coach Moore might change that a bit.
February 1st, 2024 at 11:31 AM ^
but he didn't have enough targets!
but his production!
-- fantasy football enjoyers that think raw stats are more important than film
February 1st, 2024 at 11:35 AM ^
Football is, indeed, the hardest sport to "Moneyball," so to speak. There are way too many variables.
February 1st, 2024 at 11:48 AM ^
Also small sample size. Baseball plays a bazillion games so the data is very high quality, statistically speaking.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:42 PM ^
You don’t think his lack of targets and production is why he needs senior bowl practices to rise up from the 4th round?
February 1st, 2024 at 11:46 AM ^
That catch was sick before he caught it - when he put the DB on his ass on the line! Would love to see the Lions grab him and use him with Sun God and JaMo. But, yeah, the Lions need defense at the relatively high slot Roman will disappear into...
February 1st, 2024 at 1:04 PM ^
He plays same primary position as Amon (yes he flips outside at times) so wouldn't make sense from a draft capital perspective. If anything Lions need a big outside guy like a Keon Coleman type, 6'3-6'4. Jamo and Amon are pretty small guys.
Realistically they need to be drafting linemen (both sides) and corners to stay strong on OL and help Alim and Hutch on DL.
February 1st, 2024 at 11:50 AM ^
Roman had good production last year. A big moment for him will be what he runs in the 40 at the combine. If he lights it up he could fly up the draft boards.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:08 PM ^
I think the 40 is getting a bit less hype amongst personnel guys (still hyped by fans). Amon didn't have a great number either did Nacua - both around 4.6. Both top 10 WRs. Would be nice to be T. Hill but there are plenty of talented guys in the 4.5s and 4.6s.
February 1st, 2024 at 11:51 AM ^
Maybe he could work his way into the mid-rounds, but I'm guessing his size and height will ultimately be what holds him back from going somewhere like the second round. I'd love to be wrong, but second round for Wilson seems high.
February 1st, 2024 at 12:12 PM ^
Reminds me a bit of Kalif Raymond. Smaller, fast guy who can be a good number 3 or great 4.
February 1st, 2024 at 12:42 PM ^
Josh Gattis impact on the wide receiver room was an underrated part of his tenure at Michigan. Roman Wilson said Gattis was one of the major reasons he came to Michigan. We should have had Worthy also.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:09 PM ^
Josh Gattis
should have had Worthy
Are you new around here? :D
February 1st, 2024 at 12:49 PM ^
Mid round pick? He should be a third rounder. Too fast and slippery.
