Tom VH out at ESPN
January 19th, 2024 at 1:48 PM ^
I think Tom VH needs to be held
January 19th, 2024 at 1:48 PM ^
Maybe it’s time for US to finally hold TomVH?
January 19th, 2024 at 2:43 PM ^
Jinx, poke owe him a Coke
January 19th, 2024 at 1:49 PM ^
To clarify, ESPN won't renew the contract when it's up in June.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:29 PM ^
When Ernie Harwell's contract was not renewed by the Detroit Tigers the headline read, "Bo Fired Ernie."
January 19th, 2024 at 2:37 PM ^
Warde fired TomVH
January 19th, 2024 at 4:45 PM ^
This is what happens when you’re not a loud, annoying sports commentator (Stephen A. Smith), a washed up college or professional coach (Rex Ryan), or a backwoods bro with half the Delta House chanting behind you (Pat McAfee).
You never stood a chance, Tom VH.
January 19th, 2024 at 1:50 PM ^
Bring him home, Michigan media.
January 19th, 2024 at 1:50 PM ^
Someone Hold TomVH
January 19th, 2024 at 1:51 PM ^
Gives him more time to hold us.
January 19th, 2024 at 1:52 PM ^
Can't have people who like the Big Ten at ESPN.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:52 PM ^
And especially problematic is he likes Michigan.
Cant have that, Pete’s been very upset lately.
January 19th, 2024 at 3:19 PM ^
Seriously, fuck that place. ESPN is complete garbage outside of live sports.
January 19th, 2024 at 1:54 PM ^
Seems like a good dude. I wish him well.
January 19th, 2024 at 1:55 PM ^
Probably because he didn't toe the line and bash UM on the whole Scoutgate thing.
January 19th, 2024 at 1:55 PM ^
Stephen the myth and jemele still getin paid lol.
January 19th, 2024 at 1:59 PM ^
I don't think Jemele still works there any more but yes, Stephen A IS ESPN.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:22 PM ^
Pretty sure Jemelle got fired 2 years ago. She was a MSU supporter no matter what disgusting crimes came out it seemed and never condemned MSU for the Nasser stuff and Izzo and his 12 to 13 players charged with sexual assault crimes or rape since he had been coaching.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:25 PM ^
What if I told you that her work as pseudo-celebrity troll at ESPN yielded her a job as a writer at... *checks notes* ... The Atlantic?
What if I also told you that her college football championship piece was on the hypocrisy of college football economics in the NIL era... and that a picture of UM was plastered at the top of the article... AND that she called for revenue-sharing without ever mentioning Harbaugh as a champion of the cause?
So, yes, I'm intentionally not linking the article.
January 19th, 2024 at 4:03 PM ^
I read that article and some of her other work. Her schtick is basically the same now that she is at the Atlantic. She just dresses it up with bigger words to make it sound more erudite.
January 19th, 2024 at 1:57 PM ^
I think this is a blessing in disguise for Tom, that network is a shell of itself anymore.
I see all of the people that worked there and lost there jobs or left ESPN in the past 5 years or so and they all look so happy.
ESPN is toxic, I only watch what's convenient for me and not religiously like I used to.
Good luck Tom, I'm sure you'll thrive because you're great at your job!
January 19th, 2024 at 1:58 PM ^
Sage Steele would agree.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:12 PM ^
SVP is the only one who actually adds personality in a good way these days, but the content he has to rehash over and over is still pretty unwatchable. Sportscenter was must see tv back in the day. It's really too bad what's happened to the network. Stephen A might be my least favorite person on tv and he runs the whole network. And everyone else on there is just trying to be him.
NFL Live might be the only exception in 24 hours. They have a good crew that doesn't just repeat the same nonsense.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:15 PM ^
SVP is awful. And why does he have a football helmet with his “logo” on it? So weird.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:36 PM ^
NFL Live is great and the only show worth watching on ESPN at this point other than occasional SVP, who I also like.
January 19th, 2024 at 5:27 PM ^
Could have a future at mgoblog?
January 19th, 2024 at 1:58 PM ^
That really sucks. Hope he is on the guest columnist list.
January 19th, 2024 at 1:58 PM ^
Gotta make space to pay McAffe.
January 19th, 2024 at 1:58 PM ^
Yet Pete Thamel remains employed
January 19th, 2024 at 1:58 PM ^
Tom VH really was the bridge to my. Ie obsession with recruiting. Talk about a man that created his own space and job. Come home Tom VH. Come home to MgoBlog. We will all hold you.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:00 PM ^
Come on back to MGoBlog!
January 19th, 2024 at 2:02 PM ^
ESPN needs the extra cash to keep up with McAfee and his traveling posse. It's grown to like 10 dudes that look like they just came from a homeless camp.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:12 PM ^
I do not understand the appeal of that guy. I must be getting old.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:45 PM ^
ESPN had 4? different broadcasts of the Rose, at least on my DirecTV. One was of McAfee and his crew standing on the sidelines and - calling the game, I guess? I decided to record all 4. Later much after the game, out of morbid curiosity I watched some of the McAfee extravaganza for all of about 60 seconds, before I was over it. Was a very odd move by ESPN but they are shoving as much McAfee down everyones throats as they can push. I don't get it either. Delete.
January 19th, 2024 at 4:12 PM ^
Me either. Sometimes I watch a minute or two like passerbys pause to watch a train wreck out of curiosity. But no more than that.
January 19th, 2024 at 6:40 PM ^
Pat McAfee and Jess Simms are the future of ESPN. Nothing worthwhile to say, but loud and in your face about it.
And it sells to the Tik Tok generation, who is much the same.
Gentlemen, we are obsolete.
January 19th, 2024 at 3:04 PM ^
17 million a year for that show. That’s a shit ton of good beat reporters instead going to those knuckleheads.
January 19th, 2024 at 3:15 PM ^
That's more than 188 million bowls of Quaker oatmeal.
January 19th, 2024 at 3:24 PM ^
The oatmeal is far more palatable, in my opinion.
January 19th, 2024 at 5:11 PM ^
That would help with the diabetus!
January 19th, 2024 at 2:02 PM ^
Must have done something radical, like verifying an actual source!
January 19th, 2024 at 2:08 PM ^
He is great, was really bummed out when he left us here at MGoBlog for ESPN - but, who could blame him for not taking that opportunity.
Can't believe it has already been 11 years!
January 19th, 2024 at 3:43 PM ^
Can't believe it has already been 11 years!
That was my thought, too! Wow!
January 19th, 2024 at 7:24 PM ^
Yeah I’m feeling even older. Real shame for TomVH. Doesn’t also cover Atlanta. So maybe they’re now out of play?
January 19th, 2024 at 2:11 PM ^
He's too good for them.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:12 PM ^
So is the stuff I just pulled out of my dryer's lint trap.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:12 PM ^
I actually first started my michigan blog by finding TomVH on ESPNs Michigan recruiting site. That shuttered after not that long, and there was some MGoBlog references, which got me into this blog.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:15 PM ^
Purging their few remaining quality journalists, I see. I assume Thamel is getting a lifetime extension.
January 19th, 2024 at 2:46 PM ^
Once again we see the ESPN model at work. Merely reporting news isn’t enough. You have to become the news (Thamel, Feinbaum, McAfee) to survive there.
Wish Tom all the best. He did a great job when he was back here.
