[Kind of OT] being villified as a fan base
We, as a fan base of a prominent Big Ten school, have been singled out (in an amusing way) by SBNation's Off Tackle Empire, which allegedly represents the entire conference:
Do our fellow conference members support one of their own when we strive to represent our conference at the pinnacle of the sport? Uh, not on a bet. They, instead, trot out all the Michigan Alumni tropes in an effort to diminish us. They shall pay, all of them.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:04 AM ^
Ya'll gotta stop worrying about what other fan bases think of us. Would you support OSU if they were striving to represent the conference at the pinnacle of the sport?
January 6th, 2024 at 11:30 AM ^
Also stop sharing trolls. More links => more clicks => more trolling content. It's a vicious cycle, and people like the OP are feeding it.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:41 AM ^
I think it was made clear when the entire conference turncoated us yet were quiet as church mice when it was brought up that they were all doing it. Fuk em!
January 6th, 2024 at 11:53 AM ^
Outside of Sparty and OSU, I don't anyone has disdain for the Michigan fan base. I do think many dislike Harbaugh and hate him, but that is different than hating UM and its fanbase.
January 6th, 2024 at 1:47 PM ^
As a former resident of Wisconsin, I strongly disagree. There are many Wisconsin and Illinois fans who really hate UM.
January 6th, 2024 at 2:05 PM ^
Yeah. Michigan and its fanbase have been long hated by everyone. Michigan football is basically viewed as Duke basketball and has been forever.
January 6th, 2024 at 2:05 PM ^
Illinois used to and probably still does hate Michigan to a very bizarre extent. I attended a game there in 1989 (Jeff George was QB, Bo's last season although we didn't know it, and the game was effectively for the conference championship), and the vitriol was quite shocking. I think it stemmed from Bo running it up on them multiple times because they fired Moeller after 3 years.
January 6th, 2024 at 8:29 PM ^
You’re joking right. I have family and in-laws that attended pretty much every big ten school and most of them hate UM almost as much as their main rival. Sometimes more, like Illinois.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:05 AM ^
Who cares
January 6th, 2024 at 11:08 AM ^
while I think I represent all five attributes, fuck that guy. Michigan vs Everybody
January 6th, 2024 at 11:09 AM ^
did click. a number of our fellow Mgolumineries have their Mgoposts copied-n-pasted right into the article:
say hello, san diego mick, gerald ford, and our own SRJK, along with a few others.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:15 AM ^
Hello!
January 6th, 2024 at 11:21 AM ^
are you in houston yet? post pics of the environs and the game. go blue!
January 6th, 2024 at 11:22 AM ^
Not yet, we fly in tomorrow! Are you going? Go Blue!
January 6th, 2024 at 11:24 AM ^
not going. thought about it, but not for long. that said, i'm taking a contingent of our children to detroit today to see the lions play tomorrow. so that's pretty cool given what is going on with the lions this year.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:26 AM ^
Absolutely! It's a special year for you guys for sure, and that will be a cool memory too.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:34 AM ^
it has been the single greatest football year of all time, ever, never going to be better year with all of the obvious ones we all love (michigan, lions) as well as our 3 middle sons and their football endeavors.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:09 AM ^
The writing style of that makes it completely unreadable. If you want to make fun of the Michigan fanbase - our arrogance, bowl record, past decade or two of struggles, and even some of the characteristics he pointed out - there is a funny way to do it. This was not it. Just painful, long winded and boring.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:28 AM ^
agreed, in an attempt to look clever, its unreadable and just dumb.
January 6th, 2024 at 1:50 PM ^
The anti-Jason Gay.
January 6th, 2024 at 5:18 PM ^
Read it yesterday.
I was prepared to be amused.
Instead I snoozed.
OTE is very uneven; some good and some really bad writers.

Those spineless turds are ready to trash Michigan anonymously and throw them under the bus every chance they get, but they’re going to be MORE THAN HAPPY to cash the checks they’ll be receiving from Michigan being in the CFP. They’re getting free money off of Michigan’s labor.
If they were really so righteous, they’d return the checks. It is, after all, supposedly just “blood money” to them, because Michigan violated the sanctity of the sport so gravely that they shouldn’t even be in the CFP or have gotten to rep the East in the BTCG game, right?
January 6th, 2024 at 6:10 PM ^
Ridiculous loser stuff. Don’t listen. And yea I’d love it to go independent and watch these turds grovel back. But here we are. At least we’re beating everyone.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:10 AM ^
We've beaten everyone since the beginning of college football and we aren't afraid to remind people. That's going to create enemies.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:44 AM ^
To quote Biff Poggi:
Stop whining and get a better team.

This is clearly not written by a well individual. It may be Percy from the Asylum.

My thoughts on celebrating other conference members:
1. I will support Iowa, Indiana and Minnesota. They voted to send us to the 1974 Rose Bowl and I don't think we should forget their support for us. Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin and most notably Staee can fend for themselves. I can't fault OSU for voting to send itself to the Rose Bowl but I have no love for them either.
2. When Duke was playing Staee in the NCAA basketball tournament, a friend of mine said "You have to root for State - they are in the same conference as us." I responded by saying "If alien space invaders came to earth to take out the Ayatollah would I have to root for the Ayatollah because he is from the same planet as I am?"
January 6th, 2024 at 11:33 AM ^
this bs article was written by Iowa fans. How they voted 50 years ago doesn't really move the needle for me, what have they done for me lately? How did they vote THIS YEAR on the Harbaugh which hunt when TP suspended Harbaugh. What are their views today?
January 6th, 2024 at 12:56 PM ^
To be fair, I heard that Ferentz hung up from "the phone call" where the other coaches demanded Jim be fired. So they may be (assuming that story is true) less dishonest and less conniving than the other members on the conference.
January 6th, 2024 at 1:21 PM ^
That is worthy of respect. And it's timely. Judging all conference members by one vote 50 years ago, fine if that's your perspective, but I don't get it.
January 6th, 2024 at 3:07 PM ^
Perhaps in 50 years you will get it.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:33 AM ^
It was Doug Williams, the only man who could overthrow the Ayatollah.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:41 AM ^
Pretty sure Joe Milton circa 2020 could have winged a 110 mph fastball over his head.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:16 AM ^
The only conference that cheers for itself is the SEC and that's because they are still big mad about the Civil War down there. I think it's fucking gross to cheer for conference rivals, but that's just me.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:23 AM ^
It just means more, I guess.
It will be interesting to see what the ratings are in the SEC footprint for Monday evening’s game.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:23 AM ^
for most of my life i cheered for the B10 teams, excepting ohio. then sparty went into the naughty column about 15 yrs ago. but now, most all of them can take a long walk off a short pier as far as i'm concerned.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:44 AM ^
Yeah, but it only pays off with hungry swamp creatures lurking below.
January 6th, 2024 at 12:32 PM ^
Ditto.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:43 AM ^
Pac-12 (RIP) fans used to do that too. I always considered it a sign of their lack of understanding of sports. For the ESS-EEE-SEE, it's definitely a regional animosity thing, although I think "mad about the Civil War" is unfair. It's more that they're mad at being the butt of jokes for the last hundred years.
January 6th, 2024 at 1:41 PM ^
It hasn't been for a hundred years. Most didn't learn to read/write until recently. Hell, half the SEC still doesn't.
January 6th, 2024 at 12:29 PM ^
I never root for Big Ten teams, except Northwestern, because I lived in Evanston for 20 years. I also fully support the Iowa wave to the children's hospital. That's one of the best traditions in Big Ten sports. Maybe all of sports.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:14 PM ^
Son in law went to Georgia, can't stand Alabama, and he and he said, nearly all of his friends were pulling for Michigan.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:18 AM ^
I always liked the empire and Vader more than the rebels and Luke.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:45 AM ^
Natural given Vader is one of us.
Cooler unis too.
January 6th, 2024 at 12:18 PM ^
and let's be candid: luke was the biggest inter-galactic wuss of all time. skinny, sniveling, not bright, and tried to make time with his sister....

January 6th, 2024 at 1:29 PM ^
As far as sisters go, she's pretty good looking.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:25 AM ^
I would question your use of the word “amusing.”
