Warde: "nothing was found" on Juwan
December 15th, 2023 at 7:19 PM ^
So long, Camp Sanderson. I wish you well
December 15th, 2023 at 7:22 PM ^
That's the likely outcome. You don't usually come back from this kind of situation at work. But if Sanderson and Howard can work through it and end up with a mutual respect, they'll be stronger than ever.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:32 PM ^
Maybe they still can save some face. Neither one of them backed down, nobody was found to have broken any rules, so they can both still go to work with their integrity intact. Hopefully no one took it too far where hard feelings will linger.
Shake hands, apologize to each other, and move on. I've had blowups with others in the past and both have come away with more respect for each other.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:40 PM ^
lol. No way Sanderson comes back. He will have opportunities knocking down his door.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:17 AM ^
I guess you never listened to The Clash.
December 16th, 2023 at 11:49 AM ^
People should be able to have words and get over it.
Whoever leaked the whole thing should be fired.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:33 PM ^
It getting to an HR complaint to me says this was the “its either me or him” moment for Sanderson. I don’t think these guys are coming back from that
December 16th, 2023 at 8:12 AM ^
I personally find it interesting that people are missing the fact that Sanderson's initial (alleged) move was an HR problem too.
Talking shit to a player about the coach (even if it is his dad) isn't exactly appropriate. Do I think he's right? Yeah, probably. But that doesn't mean you can just rattle that off publicly. Address it with the coach. Don't use it against the player.
Howard's escalation was clearly a bigger problem, but it didn't make sense for it to turn into HR.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:47 PM ^
You come at the king, you best not miss
December 15th, 2023 at 7:55 PM ^
More like a lame duck than a king.
December 15th, 2023 at 9:14 PM ^
NIT king
December 15th, 2023 at 9:39 PM ^
Hey Amaker has like one thing don’t take it from him
December 15th, 2023 at 10:56 PM ^
You're so miserable you could be a king and you'd step down!!!
December 15th, 2023 at 9:26 PM ^
Not a King ncaa coach … yet?
December 15th, 2023 at 10:02 PM ^
Always a great quote. Omar comin' is one of the great characters in series television.
December 16th, 2023 at 8:23 AM ^
King of Queens
December 15th, 2023 at 11:47 PM ^
I like Juwan, but I'd much rather keep Sanderson if I had to choose.
December 16th, 2023 at 9:59 AM ^
So long him and his son who’s going to be a top basketball prospect in the country in a few years
December 15th, 2023 at 7:22 PM ^
I wonder if Warde goes down with the coach eventually like GMs do in the NFL when they put all their eggs in one basket.
December 16th, 2023 at 5:24 AM ^
JUB insists that Manual is not going to be rid of Juwan short of what we are seeing now,
But then again, we haven't seen Warde do anything until his hand is forced.
December 16th, 2023 at 7:23 AM ^
You do realize Wards has nothing to do with the HR matter, right? So many bad takes on here. Move on haters.
December 16th, 2023 at 11:23 AM ^
It has been fairly widely reported that Warde was the ultimate decision maker on this once the HR claim was filed. That's also typical for large organizations -- HR won't fire or retain a high-level employee on their own.
December 16th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
Warde loves Juwan. Exact opposite deal from Harbaugh. It would take a LOT for Warde to get rid of Juwan. Warde would much rather lose Harbaugh than Juwan.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:24 PM ^
The bigger issue is the culture is garbage and probably not going to improve.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:01 PM ^
Franz would know, I guess.
December 16th, 2023 at 4:25 AM ^
The team culture is different from Howard than it was from Beilein but it doesn't necessarily mean that it is bad. It's a difference that reflects the reality of one & done/NIL versus signing & developing players that will be on the teams for three/four years. The portal is today's world and you have to adapt to reality. As Yogi Berra succinctly put it -
December 16th, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
It also reflect elite coaching vs mediocre coaching. Please be honest.
Belien, with the same rosters the last 3 years and all the same guys leaving would manage to reach the tourney each and every year, win at least 20-23 games, and probably make the Sweet 16 in all of them.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:08 PM ^
Based on what? Some random twitter post?
December 15th, 2023 at 8:28 PM ^
Based on common sense.
Player antics, no attention to detail, playing no defense.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:39 PM ^
It's almost like new guys transferred in after the main pieces from last year left, and they didn't have a head coach to help with the transition. Oh wait, that's exactly what happened.
December 15th, 2023 at 9:32 PM ^
Buy one excuse, get one free.
December 15th, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
Right. Like 2020 didn't count in football, because it was a Covid year. Excuses excuses.
December 16th, 2023 at 4:12 AM ^
I'll buy that for a dollar.
December 15th, 2023 at 9:45 PM ^
Assistants coach defense
December 15th, 2023 at 10:45 PM ^
Juwan's strength is defense. Spoelstra called him his defensive coordinator.
December 15th, 2023 at 9:43 PM ^
Player antics?
December 15th, 2023 at 11:19 PM ^
You recall a guy named dickinson?
December 16th, 2023 at 1:45 PM ^
Keeping Dickinson around an extra year last year torpedoed the culture. I think Juwan deserves a chance to fix it. If he can get Mckenney in 25 along with a couple other pieces, along with developing what we have now and also get rid of Eisley and Saddi with great upgrades it will turn around.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:28 PM ^
Blatant nepotism and bad win-loss records.
December 16th, 2023 at 1:48 PM ^
quit with the nepotism crap. Did Jett deserve his playing time? What has Jace done to deserve the backlash. He's a captain and has been nothing short of exemplary young man. Would you want your kids playing somewhere else or make things miserable for them? Need to look at the whole picture not just pounce on them because they have some adversity and pile on with the mob.
December 16th, 2023 at 8:23 PM ^
How, exactly, did Jett deserve his playing time when the team was something like 10 points worse over 40 minutes with him on the court than off it?
December 15th, 2023 at 9:42 PM ^
Where there’s smoke there fire. See any of this BS in the football program? Men’s hockey? Women’s volleyball?
December 15th, 2023 at 11:01 PM ^
Um. . There's been quite of bit of BS in the hockey program.
December 15th, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
And Warde also tried to ignore that and pretend nothing was wrong until President Coleman and the Regents overruled him
December 16th, 2023 at 1:50 PM ^
Yeah, did you see Cade and All leave happily? Winning is the ultimate culture builder. I'm glad there is some unsettledness there. Tension is healthy if it leads to growth.
December 15th, 2023 at 11:11 PM ^
Are you even serious right now?
Are you talking about the same football program where the head coach was banned from the sidelines for 6 games this season? Nobody cares about it for football because we are winning.
And you can be sure that if we were winning big in basketball you would not hear any of this silly pearl clutching about two men who raised their voices in a nasty tone.
December 16th, 2023 at 7:56 AM ^
I mean that's kind of the deal right?
The big reason why Howard didn't get fired two years ago for punching another coach is because he was coming off a Big Ten title season.
He benefited from the same scenario.
The difference here is that the football coach doesn't have anything like punching another coach on his resume in his time here. So incidents like this are always going to draw more scrutiny for Howard.
December 16th, 2023 at 1:32 PM ^
It was a slap
December 15th, 2023 at 10:12 PM ^
One of two things is true:
A 15 year, well respected assistant who has served two head coaches filed a dubious HR claim to get the head coach fired
OR
The AD just buried an HR complaint to protect a head coach who’s supposed to be on “zero tolerance” after hitting another coach two years ago.
Neither option speaks to a healthy culture.
December 15th, 2023 at 10:47 PM ^
Or, 3, Sanderson was actually in the wrong and the HC is getting blamed solely on his past. Considering Juwan was on the road trip, Sanderson wasn't, and Juwan was cleared -- that should at least be a consideration.
It's also possible that they are two grown men, and they can apologize and find common ground. Michael Jordan punched Steve Kerr in the face. They still made it work and have no hard feelings to this day.
