UM at Penn State - Penn State's Radio Call w/ video
Michigan at Penn State with PSU Nittany Lions radio call & color/analysis.
Pretty objective. These have been enjoyable to reference.

I’m sorry but you want me to watch 28 minutes of highlights with commentary from Penn State’s radio guys? No thanks.
Why would I do that when I can listen to the Michigan commentators over the highlights? In fact, the first comment the PSU guy makes is some snide remark that Michigan ruined their moment by taking the field first.

I'm confident OP won't mind if you choose not to watch.
In any case, these sorts of overlays oftentimes provide interesting perspective and/or schadenfreude.
November 13th, 2023 at 1:27 PM ^
It's for the schadenfreude.
November 13th, 2023 at 1:43 PM ^
it's nice to hear from another prospective sometimes.
November 13th, 2023 at 10:01 PM ^
You have an increasingly rare point of view and I completely agree. I wish more people took time to listen to differences perspectives.
November 13th, 2023 at 1:45 PM ^
Do what you want. I don't care.
Some people obtain enjoyment in the misfortune and crestfallen antics/reactions of others. I count myself among them.
Especially this year when Michigan's football team is grounding opponents into bonemeal.

Jesus Christ, get up on the wrong side of a nervous chicken this morning?
These videos are a must watch for me every week. Hearing the pain in the announcers' voices is pure schadenfruede.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:45 PM ^
feel free to not comment at all, then.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:51 PM ^
Yes! Because it's always hilarious when opponents' radio teams whine about the officiating and get sad. The IU guys and Purdue were extra salty. Also, are you ok or are you always such a Debbie Downer?
November 13th, 2023 at 3:30 PM ^
The one for the Purdue game was eminently listenable. The announcers in that case seemed to have prepared well and were very respectful--unlike the horrid MSU announcers.
I look forward to these and will give it a listen.
November 13th, 2023 at 4:38 PM ^
Sounds like you listened to the first minute, got pissed off over nothing, and dropped this gem of a comment. I've watched every one of these this season, and they're almost always fun. The only one I had trouble getting through was MSU for obvious, Blaha-related reasons. But otherwise it's part schadenfreude, part new perspective, and part I just love watching this team play. It's almost like watching a reaction video for something you've already seen/heard. It's validation that even someone reacting in real time is seeing what you're seeing. Am very grateful for this series on youtube, am subbed to OP, and will continue watching. If you don't like it, feel free to not follow suit.
November 13th, 2023 at 5:33 PM ^
I enjoy hearing rival announcers schadenfreude the bed.
November 13th, 2023 at 1:34 PM ^
Off topic, but does anyone have a link to the full game video?
November 13th, 2023 at 2:03 PM ^
Are you stealing signs?
November 13th, 2023 at 3:58 PM ^
Decoding. Totally different.
November 13th, 2023 at 1:46 PM ^
i listened to the game on sirius xm and it had the penn state radio feed. it was fine i guess, but they did seem to be complaining about a bunch of the holding and interference calls. "i'll be stunned if this one goes against penn state" *call went against penn state*
November 13th, 2023 at 2:40 PM ^
When you watch the replay, there are 2 calls that they might have a point . . . a missed hold on our WR blocking, and the PI on JJs only pass of the 2nd half.
But those calls turned out to be immaterial. We only got a FG after the fist call which we would have gotten anyway, and we punted after the 2nd call anyway.
The ref's did not cost either Michigan nor Penn State the game.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:53 PM ^
CJ definitely held, but that was a clear as day DPI.
November 13th, 2023 at 3:04 PM ^
The SiriusXM app, along with the Varsity Network app, allow you to get the Michigan feed. Of course, if you didn't have cell signal, that might not have helped you. :)
I don't much care for Michigan's radio guys, but they're still a lot better than having to listen to the opposition's. :)
November 13th, 2023 at 6:09 PM ^
I knew the game was on Fox
So I tuned to the Fox sports channel
And listened.
Didn't try to look for the home guys. But maybe next time, thanks for the pointer
November 13th, 2023 at 6:14 PM ^
I'm guessing they didn't have a whole lot to say on Allar's TD when Mason Graham got tackled.
November 13th, 2023 at 1:47 PM ^
thanks - I like watching these, esp. on the big deflating plays
November 13th, 2023 at 1:59 PM ^
I just watched this. When they started complaining about not calling holding, I chuckled because there were blatant holds against our DLine all game. As much as I was worried about this officiating this game after the suspension to Harbaugh, I thought they were pretty consistent throughout the game.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:02 PM ^
They're all pretty good except Sparty.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:43 PM ^
I didn't think Sparty was that bad, Strangely enough, I thought it was Indiana that had the worst homer announcers. All the others have been very good and professional.
November 13th, 2023 at 4:42 PM ^
Indiana was 2nd-worst for sure. Very homer announcers and lots of complaining, but not at the same level of MSU at all. George Blaha really looked at their guy launching into the back of someone's head and barely commented on it, then continued to complain that we stepped out of bounds on the play.
November 13th, 2023 at 4:02 PM ^
But, the MSU one was hilarious. Every time M hit a big play, the color guy would mutter, "oh god..." And every time they whined about a call on the field or a missed play, the replay would show how wrong they were. It was very entertaining.
November 13th, 2023 at 4:02 PM ^
EDIT: double post.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:11 PM ^
all the crying about the pass interference in the 4th. the defender clearly impeded Barner with his arm across his body and his other arm around him as he tries to turn to make the catch at the PSU 32. announcers and crowd react to the defender being pulled down long after the ball sails through and as it hits at the 25. even after he replay they can’t see that.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
The PSU radio announcers were really good. They were pretty complimentary of U-M to be honest.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:31 PM ^
Main guy has more energy on a Michigan TD than Karsch
November 13th, 2023 at 2:25 PM ^
I haven't made it the whole way through yet, but so far fairly objective.
And I absolutely loved this comment about our defense:
"We're talking about the top 7 for Michigan on the defensive side of the ball are outstanding... they are as physical as Ohio State, or probably even more so."
November 13th, 2023 at 2:26 PM ^
I think extremely objective.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:34 PM ^
These have been added to the weekly ritual. Fantastic.
I was impressed with the quality and impartiality of the Purdue guys -- something tells me PSU won't be the same...
November 13th, 2023 at 2:36 PM ^
After the past fortnight of hysteria and pearl clutching, it is refreshing to hear some objectivity from the opposing team’s radio crew, of all places. They have my respect.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:37 PM ^
They were calmer than me. And we were winning.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:39 PM ^
Nice, professional announcing team. I really don't like radio announcers who see the game with their heart instead of their eyes. You can't tell what's actually happening in the game. Ufer would add a yard or two to every gain we'd make and subtract a yard or two from every gain the other team had. Listening, you'd wonder how we didn't get a first down after three 4-yard runs, or how the other team got a first down on three 3-yard runs
November 13th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
SiriusXM has an NFL channel --- on Sundays, they "whip around" to the various games, using the radio crew for whatever team has the ball.
It's kind of fascinating --- instead of just ONE biased radio crew, you get to listen to TWELVE of them! For whatever reason, it seems NFL radio guys tend to be pretty big homers.
November 13th, 2023 at 5:31 PM ^
Yeh, I love doing that. One of my favorite "homer" analysts was Sonny Jurgenson on the Washington Redskins radio call, he was hilarious.
November 13th, 2023 at 3:56 PM ^
Ufer WAS actually calling what he saw with his eyes, it's the Ref's who screwed the spots.
Look at Roman Wilsons catch last year in the Fiesta Bowl, every player, coach, spectator, announcer, and tv viewer saw that was a touchdown, but noooooo some ref says down at the 1 foot mark, bullshit.
Usually there's some home field advantage to the spots, but I feel we get hosed more often that not.
November 13th, 2023 at 5:01 PM ^
Ufer would add a yard or two to every gain we'd make
On a number of occasions over the past few years WTKA has re-broadcast during bye weeks a 1970s Michigan game that Ufer called. Since I know the outcome of the games I've been able to listen more dispassionately and analytically than I could when I was listening to them live.
I've been struck by how often Ufer does a pretty poor job of describing the specifics of the action as it happens—frequently you don't know what exactly has happened on a play while Ufer is yelling about George Patton and Ricky the Peach and Johnny Wangler. The enthusiasm with which he called the game was great when I was listening as an undergrad, but IMHO his successor Frank Beckmann was a vastly better play-by-play announcer.
November 13th, 2023 at 5:35 PM ^
Frank was more professional for sure, though I loved Ufe. Tom Hemenway who did Michigan radio calls at the same time as Ufe (out of WUOM, I think, in Grand rapids), was very good too. Tom also did basketball.
November 13th, 2023 at 7:33 PM ^
Tom Hemingway was vastly better than Ufer or Beckman.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:44 PM ^
Thanks. I often run on my treadmill during the week and watch replays from different perspectives. Interesting.
Disclosure: I’ve watched replays of the last two UM-OSU games probably 100 times. Never gets old.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:48 PM ^
I love that channel. That guy does such a good job synching!
November 13th, 2023 at 6:14 PM ^
I think that’s actually a gal who does those. There was (and maybe still is but I haven’t been there in so long) a frequent poster on the Rivals board who went by the same screen name. She’d also do a nice preview of the opposing team, prior to football Saturday.
November 13th, 2023 at 3:42 PM ^
Yes, some partisan calls, but they are surprisingly complimentary to UM, from the plays I watched as I skimmed through...
November 13th, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
Surprisingly, the OSU radio play-by-play guys are also pretty decent.
November 13th, 2023 at 4:02 PM ^
Literally the only nice thing I have to say about OSU is that their announcing team is absolutely top notch. Our broadcast team is nowhere near as good.
November 13th, 2023 at 3:51 PM ^
For the most part they were very fair with their call. The one time they went total George Blaha was when Kenneth Grant chased down their back and the guy started yelling about a horse collar tackle which it wasn't even close to. To his partners credit he did talk about Grant's effort in pretty glowing terms.
