The Bruce Feldman article that was mentioned on the Rich Eisen show yesterday has been published:

Wake Forest scandal didn’t get same attention from NCAA as Michigan investigation. Why?

Isnt the issue how you obtain the signals? i just feel like im missing something but these other programs did not obtain the signals in the same manner? Asking for some clarification

Not exactly.  What happened here was that the Wake Forest staff would share game plan details with the radio crew; it’s standard practice meant to help the radio crew call the game better.  The radio crew, of course, is sworn to secrecy.

In this case, a member of the Wake radio crew was turning around and distributing the game plans.  I wouldn’t call it scouting, exactly.

I think the primary reason this wasn’t a big deal is that it was an internal leak from Wake Forest.

Incidentally, if I’m Clawson, I’ve got to ask my “friend,” — “So, you called the NCAA to report this guy, but you didn’t call me?”

I think because we have been a very successful program, that most people across the country do not like Michigan. I remember in '07 I went to the CMU vs KU game and when they announced the AppSt. upset over their PA the fans went crazy and cheered loud for over 10 minutes. Many around me yelled out Michigan sucks, F-Michigan, because I was in my full Michigan gear at that game. At work, I get a lot of flack from co-workers telling me how bad my program is for cheating and how the B1G and NCAA should give Michigan the death penalty. Funny how these non fans get whipped up into a frenzy. I attack back with what happened to Self but they come back and say you are comparing apples to oranges?

There are definitely a lot of Michigan haters out there but I don't care. I am more proud of Michigan than I am concerned about their opinions. The Eagle doesn't care about the little birds that harass him. He just tolerates them because their babies are delicious.  Most other universities are just little birds, as far as I'm concerned.

And that right there ^^^ is why they hate us.

I saw that show yesterday.  Him, along with ESPN, declare that Michigan/Harbs are cheaters and there should be punishment.

The media doesn't emphasize that Stallions is crazy and did this on his own and that most likely, nobody else knew about it.

It's just MICHIGAN ARE CHEATERS

I wrote about WakeyLeaks in the B&W Signs diary and three teams admitted to getting info from the WF announcer, using it, and all they got was hit with a $25k fine, and I think that was from the ACC and not the NCAA.  It's sort of insane how little the NCAA did in that case.

At this point, the best thing the big10 can do is defer to the ncaa for any rules violations and/or disciplinary actions.  Anything more than that drags the whole conference through the mud.

Why don't these idiots realize this?

NCAAs selective enforcement has been widely known by everyone and likely why info was leaked strategically for maximum publicity and force action.

While better than nothing, the Feldman article is weak sauce through and through. Worse, at the end, he drops a Clawson quote that reinforces the complete red herring that sign stealing is a problem due to player safety.

From this, it is painfully obvious what many Michigan fans and alums have known for years.

We are the target of hate crimes.

It's one thing for a buckeye, spartan or nittany lion to say "I hate Michigan".

It's another to actively plot against Michigan supporters or the team/University itself.

It's yet even another (player well-being, financial losses, coaching loss/turnover) to have other Big Ten schools (and outside teams/leagues, TCU?) and possibly REFEREES COLLUDE to bring losses or bad outcomes to Michigan.

Hate crimes need to expand to college athletics -- if a buckeye beats my skull in at the shoe when Michigan wins, isn't that the definition of a HATE crime?

Also, the media is slandering Michigan and we should sue due to damage to our brand.

Go Blue.

Fuck this article. It seems to be equating a guy giving away the team's game plans with Stalion having guys in the stands with their i-phone.

That is like comparing a grenade launcher to a sling shot.

Fuck off, Feldman.

I didn't know this story....wow.  And THAT is the difference.  Sure, Wake is a small program that sucks most of the time, but I think this goes back to the PR smear campaign.  Whoever started this immediately fired up the media circus and Michigan was already guilty in the eyes of the public and media before the investigation even started.  No one knew about Wake.  It is doubtful enough people would have cared to make it a top headline, but even still - the initial PR in our situation made sure the B10 and NCAA had to do something.

Sucks for Wake that the NCAA and ACC did nothing for them.  I'm still not proud of what Stallions did or why the hell Michigan hired him in the first place.  That still bugs me a lot.  If Stallions was just some crazy fan firing off emails to Michigan with his signs - this is a different story.  Once we put him on the payroll, we have some culpability.  Dumb.

What happened actually wasn't the NCAA.  Let's remember how all this started.  With the BIG.  The first thing we heard was the BIG told MSU we might have their signals.  Why?  Why did the BIG even tell them?  Most of the actual leaks I've seen have come from the BIG office.  If we're looking at everything surrounding this, the BIG is started this, is driving it, and is amplifying it out of proportion.

It's possible that, like with past cases of in person scouting, the NCAA would have just ignored it because everyone does it.  The BIG amplified the whole by telling MSU like it was some kind of scandal, and then the media ran with it.  At this point, the BIG is solely responsible for this nonsense, in my mind.

To me the point is that the ncaa didn’t think it mattered.  If literally getting the game plans from an inside source doesn’t matter how can they say what Connor did matters?

only penalty was Shane for money

if the NCAA can’t penalize for it then neither can big penalize Jim as an individual and if they try the institution, holy hell.

Hmmm. Well to be fair the B1G was the guys trying dumb stuff. The ncaa took the same tack (let’s deliberate for years and do nothing). The B1Gs approach is even dumber. Jobs are on the line now over this. Just pure idiocy. They have the Dream Team on this now. lol
