Wilson is a baller. Good win for the good guys.
September 30th, 2023 at 6:48 PM ^
Wilson having a crazy year;
Mullings clear #2 RB;
JJ back on track;
Tackles remain ok not great
September 30th, 2023 at 7:07 PM ^
For incessant draw plays, then yes, Mullings is the 2. The plays called for Edwards, am sorry to say, aren't right. Give him screens, give him delayed dump offs like that did last week, Edwards needs space and he's gone. Sorry but Sherrone doesn't know how to call plays for Edwards.
September 30th, 2023 at 7:13 PM ^
Very hard to figure out why Edwards has not gotten on track. Mullings is now a solid #2 after today. Hopefully, Sheronne can figure this out with Donovan. Donovan had his chances today and really lacks the IT factor thus far.
September 30th, 2023 at 7:18 PM ^
If Edwards can't do the basic RB stuff and get yards as well as Mullings then every single defense will adjust to the things he's good at when he's in as a single back.
September 30th, 2023 at 10:13 PM ^
Agreed, they'll have to run two-back sets (which I'm not opposed to, but isn't what we've been into lately) if they want to have Edwards in there reliably.
Motioning him in and out of the slot to see the defenses would be a great idea too, but not sure we're at that level of complexity.
Also, if it weren't for the 9/11-planestrike-level-video-replay-brainwashing of Edward's 2 TD Homeruns against OSU all year long, people would not assume Edwards was some sort of trucking RB.
He has always relied on getting away clean and fast. He's an elusive back, not a bulldozer.
Remember Corum & Edwards dubbed themselves "Lightning & Lightining", not "Thunder & Thunder".
That being said, I love what I'm seeing from Mullings. Love to see more.
September 30th, 2023 at 10:17 PM ^
The OSU TDs weren't of the "trucking" variety either - he just shot through the hole and was gone.
It was the Purdue TD where he broke a bunch of tackles.
October 1st, 2023 at 3:03 AM ^
Edwards did learn to make linebackers wrong and to use vision to find daylight around the second half of the season last year. It just looks like he forgot or something, bizarre.
October 1st, 2023 at 1:26 PM ^
The OSU TDs weren't of the "trucking" variety either
That's exactly my point, you show something over and over for long enough, again and again and again, and people will start to attribute qualities to something that never were there before in the first place.
It's why eye-witness testimony is notorious less and less reliable the more the person is interrogated.
Which kind of calls into question all 24-7 debate, dialogue, hardcore-politics-newscycle, and sportstalk, etc. via the internet as an inescapable self-straying from reality through re/mis-remembering ("Tower of Babel"--and many, many other mythopoetics touch on similar conundrums/fatal-flaws), but alas, the people must poast!!
October 1st, 2023 at 4:19 PM ^
Lay-off the 9/11 references. Not cool. Not necessary. Not ok.
September 30th, 2023 at 10:03 PM ^
Edwards can’t break a damn tackle this year .
September 30th, 2023 at 10:15 PM ^
If Edwards can't run between the tackles then he's just a slightly better version of A.J. Henning. What makes a back like him so dangerous is that he can do all the receiving stuff in addition to being a regular running back. When he does it all the defense can't match up personnel-wise. Whatever they do is wrong. If we limit his role to the things you propose, you just stick a nickel or safety on him.
We know he can run between the tackles. He did it late last year. He needs to be that back again. In his defense, I do think he made some improvements in this game, where he just took the 4-5 years the defense gave him instead of overreaching for the big play.
September 30th, 2023 at 11:58 PM ^
The offense is built around Corum, and Mullings is a better Corum backup than Edwards, even if Edwards might be a better athlete.
October 1st, 2023 at 12:07 AM ^
You don't want personnel to tip play calls.
October 1st, 2023 at 7:46 AM ^
Have you been watching Michigan football for the last decade?
October 1st, 2023 at 1:36 AM ^
True, the coaches, who are great with every other player and converted a LB into a solid RB, can't figure out how to use Edwards. I'm sure that's it and not the fact that his vision seems, to put it charitably, below average.
October 1st, 2023 at 12:55 PM ^
It's not his job to call plays for Edwards. It's Edwards' job to run the plays correctly.
October 1st, 2023 at 4:17 PM ^
Ummm
October 1st, 2023 at 9:38 AM ^
Yes, Yes, Yes and Henderson looked pretty good to me (and still prefer Trente at RT).
October 1st, 2023 at 10:02 AM ^
Trente was terrible in pass protection last year. Why do you want to have him at RT?
October 1st, 2023 at 12:02 PM ^
He was bad in pass pro his first two games—his first as a starter— but he was fine after that.
September 30th, 2023 at 6:49 PM ^
I don’t ever remember Harbaugh letting the backup QBs pass so much. Almost felt like he and Rhule were feuding at the end
September 30th, 2023 at 7:26 PM ^
I think the onside kick pissed him off
September 30th, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
See, I was wondering if the onside kick was in response to our 3rd string QB throwing a passing TD in garbage time
September 30th, 2023 at 9:56 PM ^
Yeah, maybe. It seemed tense enough at the end that I thought Harbaugh might kick a walk off field goal if we had stopped them on fourth down on the second-to-last play.
September 30th, 2023 at 6:49 PM ^
This game reminded me a lot of the Iowa game last year. I know Iowa’s D was way better last year than Nebraska’s D but a lot of what we heard leading into this game is can Michigan do anything against their first road test against a good defense. They did it last year and they most definitely did it this year. Let’s keep this momentum rolling next week. Go Blue!
September 30th, 2023 at 11:39 PM ^
It also reminded me of last year's PSU game. PSU and Nebraska were the best (IIRC) rush defenses at the time...and it's gone.
September 30th, 2023 at 6:50 PM ^
For once I have more to complain about on the defense than the offense. Secondary playing way to soft
September 30th, 2023 at 7:42 PM ^
why complain about defense that's repping their scheme for Ohio State
September 30th, 2023 at 10:04 PM ^
Yep. Pitching a shutout until the 3rd string comes in is turrible.
October 1st, 2023 at 1:17 PM ^
Imagine telling your 2020 self that, in three short years, your biggest complaint during Week 5 would be non-rotation players on a back-to-back B1G Champion UM team blowing a run fit to give up a long TD in a 45-0 game.
September 30th, 2023 at 6:50 PM ^
It's great

WOLVERINE
September 30th, 2023 at 6:51 PM ^
IMPRESSIVE!! They beat my expectations. JJ made some great plays. Roman has risen to a new level. How about Kalil Mullings! What a tank!
They ran for 249 yds; so much for Neb 42 ypg ave against the rush.
Even the back ups looked very good, scoring more points.
I gave them an A+; the train is rolling now.
September 30th, 2023 at 7:22 PM ^
Pretty amazing how they ran the way they did for 2.5 quarters and actually kept the ground game going when the backups entered.
September 30th, 2023 at 6:53 PM ^
The offense was glorious. Like watching a celebration.
We are clearly the number one team in the country.
September 30th, 2023 at 6:53 PM ^
A dominant win against an elite defense. This offense is so much better when we snap the ball quickly.
October 1st, 2023 at 10:55 AM ^
Great performance by our guys, no doubt. But that is in no way an elite defense. Look at the teams they posted those rushing yards numbers against.
September 30th, 2023 at 6:58 PM ^
I want to see more targets to Wilson. The guy is electric. That being said, it's nice seeing the other WRs step up as well. And, Edwards wasn't even targeted..
Mullings!
September 30th, 2023 at 7:00 PM ^
Donovan Edwards might be a better overall player, but Mullings is a better running back. Dude is an absolute monster.
September 30th, 2023 at 7:09 PM ^
On draw plays inside, yes, Mullings... but he's not better than Edwards in everything else. Please remember Edwards vs OSU.
September 30th, 2023 at 7:20 PM ^
Exactly. He was better today than prior games. He will get there (I hope). We need him to be there to make this offense hum against PSU and OSU.
September 30th, 2023 at 7:18 PM ^
Edwards just needs a cast in his right hand then he'll be GTG.
September 30th, 2023 at 8:24 PM ^
I thought Edwards showed improvement today
September 30th, 2023 at 8:43 PM ^
Same. Today was his best day so far this year…that being said, it still wasn’t as impressive as Mullings. Makes me wonder if he’s injured or just in some sort of weird funk.
September 30th, 2023 at 11:37 PM ^
Edwards was much improved today. And even though he turned in one of the worst pass blocks I can recall from a running back…he DID 1) ID the rusher correctly, and 2) get in his way
That’s progress
September 30th, 2023 at 11:40 PM ^
Mullings will be so key vs OSU and in the playoffs
