Can we start by getting her name right? It’s Caitlin Clark.
I thought it was Kaitlin Klark.
She’s a 2000s baby, so it’s actually Keightleighn Clark
I thought it was KeightLeighN ClarkE
If it’s Kaitlin Kimberly Klark, monogramming her clothes is definitely a bad idea…
Clarklin Kent
…and that’s why she’s super good.
I thought I was out of my mind because "there's no way someone created a thread about someone & didn't at least spell check their name" but here we are ::shrug emoji:
She can be whomever she wants if she keeps Kim Mulkey from winning a title.
My error. It is late.
Yeah, but its never too late to pile on, lol
It's not that late in Colorado!
How about a stat line? I mean, what is this post but a “give me up votes” thing? Just completely uninformative if we haven’t seen the game.
Can she declare for WNBA draft? It is insane to come back one more year.
Women have declared early, yes. But in the NIL era with her level of fame, she'll probably get paid better in college.
She should make more money from endorsements as a WNBA player. NIL might be a good deal for a typical player but she will be a superstar in a much bigger market than Iowa.
She's a national draw already. Iowa's Elite Eight game drew 250% the audience that last year's did. And there are some women's players pulling in high six figures already. Jackie Young has the highest WNBA salary at a quarter million.
High six figures is $900K…
Right. College kids being paid more than the pros.
I honestly think you'll get more exposure as a college superstar than as a WNBA player. Lots of people care about Iowa sports. Not many watch the WNBA
How many people do you think live in Iowa?
Attendance in 2019, a Elite Eight year, was roughly 60% of what it was this year. She's a great player who also happens to be an Iowa native. When she leaves, the attendance will drop.
Iowa is a top-5 attendance school for women’s hoops. There have been 6 1000+ point women’s NCAA players, and two have played at Iowa the past 5 years.
I’ve heard she was on a $125K NIL deal for this season, mostly from Hy-Vee.
Caitlin has 2 years of eligibility left. She has to be 22 to go pro, and also renounce her remaining eligibility. But even as a #1 pick, she can only make $75K on a rookie deal.
She’s also started some basketball camps this year, and they sold out in the first hour.
Nike has announced they’re going to start selling CC shirts and jerseys, and she’ll be a huge draw the next 2 seasons. Iowa may not have a ton of people, but they’re predominantly Iowa fans. There’s no pro football, basketball, baseball, or hockey that pulls their money away from UofI.
I’d imagine she gets a huge bump in her NIL after this season. And there’s a lot of money in Iowa — especially in Des Moines where she’s from. Why not pursue your masters and get paid like $200K+ to do it?
Nope, have to be 22 to enter the WNBA draft. She has to wait another year.
I stand corrected. Fucked up that the age limit is 20 for international players.
Larger point still stands, she's going to make bank next year regardless.
22 for women? I don’t understand the WNBA’s logic.
I think the WNBA knows that the only reason it exists is that women built up the sport for decades through college basketball. Even today, the most fans interest is focused on the college game. I bet last nights game had a higher tv rating than any WNBA game. They need to preserve that interest by keeping kids in school, even if it goes against an individual woman’s right to make a living (which clearly the courts don’t care about anyways).
It’s not illegal for a woman to make money playing basketball under the age of 22. You just can’t do it in the WNBA. That age has been collectively agreed between the owners and players.
Professional opportunities (and money) for women’s players are more limited than for men, so they probably want to encourage the players to graduate.
Hell, can she declare for the NBA draft? Pistons could definitely use her.
First women's game I've ever intentionally tuned in to watch. She didn't disappoint (and easily covered the +11.5 spread).
On one hand you could say it felt like a Caitlin & the Clarkettes performance or you could easily frame it that the voters were vindicated.
In the 4th quarter Boston mostly disappeared but Clark scored or assisted on every Iowa point which feels very Player Of the Year like
Boston didn't step off the bus. A nod to how atrocious their actual in-game, half-court offense is coached.
Glued to the screen tonight. Pure greatness.
Go CC they only said it a 1000 times. So I say,"go Kaitlin, anyways!"
Incredible player. When she is in the WNBA, I'd go to Seattle Storm game to watch her play.
TWill is gonna play like that for us next year
Not sure I wouldn't replace TWill (and a couple others) with her, if I had the chance...
I like Caitlin Clark. If Gabbie Marshall needs a sugar daddy though, I'm here.
Oh man this is gonna be a fun comment to come back to
what happened to shame.
This is post COVID insano days, we lost shame a few years ago. Have you seen society?
Get a time machine and go back there then. Plenty of decent people, but if you think people were so pure back then go back.
People get to share their thoughts anonymously whenever they want.
I don't have any inside info, but she's not interested.
Not a good look, DT76. Seriously.
Let's do better.
Not a father but you suck. She deserves better. Donate to NIL. Or save this crap for a forum for your misogynist friends.
I saw her play here against UofM. Ridiculous!!!
Last time the MGoGirlfriend and I were watching UM v Iowa, I realized that Clark reminded me of Reggie Miller. Back in the day when the Pacers played the Pistons, I hated that bastard because every time Indiana needed a crucial bucket, he Just. Wouldn't. Miss.
Clark has that same infuriating habit.
Best shooter I've seen in a long time, male or female. Could cooly shoot a three from half court if she had to, guarded or unguarded. How does she do it?? She can also dish the assists whenever needed. An amazing team player.
She also gets to the rack at will, with ease regardless of the height/length, or skill set of her defender.
I didn't see anything close to even a minor weakness, atleast offensively.
