Anson Hints at an Upcoming Nonprofit NIL Gamechanger
I know the board has mixed feelings on Anson and how reliable he is but this is the third hint of a new nonprofit NIL initiative at Michigan that I've read in the last couple months.
Austin Meeks - Is Michigan maximizing NIL opportunities? What to know about collectives, recruiting impact
though another effort is underway to create a nonprofit platform that would use donor funds to provide NIL stipends to members of the Michigan football team, according to two sources involved with NIL at Michigan.
Michael Spath hinted at this in a board post last month over at 247 as well.
I asked a friend of mine who works at Schembechler Hall and he mentioned this initiative is being led by a former assistant of Harbaugh's and a high powered attorney out of California - both Michigan Ross grads. Seems like there is some serious firepower behind this initiative especially if Harbaugh is on board.
If this actually creates opportunites for student athletes to perform legitimate service for nonprofit organizations in exchange for NIL $$ I personally would feel way better donating to NIL. Not to mention big time donors would probably line up just for the tax break.

So many hints. If hints signed blue chippers we would be over scholarships on 5 stars alone.
Guess in your hurry to be both 1st & most cynical you missed that scholarship limits are essentially obsolete now with NIL filling the role of replacing scholarship $.
Check it out...
Would love to be pleasantly surprised by what this is. I’ve heard “NIL Gamechanger!” multiple times since it came about and most things have been pretty meh compared to what other programs are doing.
Hopefully they've consulted Partridge and others about what the SEC is doing. I picture something like this (with Ben Franklins substituted for roast beef):

Thanks for reminding how much I love the Onion, and here's an example why. First embed, so I'll find out shortly if embedding a link is as easy as the internet literate crowd says it is: https://www.theonion.com/spacex-crew-member-realizes-he-fired-after-being-locked-1850213418
You clearly have not heard about the free hamburgers coming with this upcoming one.
Why do I feel like there's a new "huge" and "game changing" NIL initiative coming out every couple months across the country?
Just this
An exciting, new, 1st-of-its-kind NIL platform utilizing a game changing nonprofit platform is about to emerge at the end of March.
With “exciting, new, 1st of its kind” and “game changing” are are the words of a con artist. Sounds just like a crypto or NFT shill.
Waiting for GoJ to chime in as he, and only he, knows the truth on EVERYTHING!!!
/s
I have my decoder ring out.
Now the waiting game begins...
a crummy commercial?
GoJ = THE KNOWLEDGE
= THE ARROGANT BULLSHIT!!!
The Name, Image, and
Likeness Monster continues to haunt us.
Lol ok. The only “gamechanger” from Anson’s perspective is that it will line his pockets
You’re totally wrong in this statement.
When someone is seemingly this adamant and into something, in 2023, there just has to be some personal gain involved.
Is there such a thing as a selfless act? Even if someone does something for zero material gain, is their reward not the joy and happiness that is achieved by helping others?
Ok Todd
I'll believe it when I see it. If I had a dollar for every time a new "game-changing" Michigan NIL platform came out I'd have... probably like $4
Pete Sampson, the Notre Dame correspondent for The Athletic, just appeared on The Solid Verbal and spent a few minutes explaining how Notre Dame has approached NIL. He identified FUND, Friends of the University of Notre Dame, as Notre Dame's primary NIL collective. FUND compensates players based on their work and commitments to local charities. While Todd Anson may want to position this new NIL collective as a revolutionary concept, it sounds more like a reskin of Notre Dame's current efforts than something truly innovative.
Interestingly, the way that Sampson described Notre Dame's NIL program sounded a lot like the information we have about Michigan's NIL programs. Notre Dame (and its connected collectives) do not offer NIL deals to prospects. Instead, players get told that they will have opportunities to make money through NIL after they enroll. Indeed, Sampson sounded as frustrated as some of our posters that Notre Dame has not jumped into direct inducements.
Todd Anson spends all day sniffing Harbaugh's jockstrap -- and lovin' it!
There have been so many hints at "exciting" and "upcoming" NIL opportunities that just haven't come to fruition...I'll believe it when I see it. UM is behind the curve in this department, and the track record so far indicates that it won't change while Warde is in charge.
I'll believe NIL has changed when we start landing 5 stars again.
This is the only answer.
I’d be fine with 3 top 100 players this year including Davis. We don’t get Davis, then enjoy 23 cause that is the end of the big time for….???
Rob
I know I am probably swimming against the tide but I am secretly hoping in most cases that these "nonprofit" NIL groups get taken down. Yes, if an NIL is really about athletes doing services that benefit legitimate charities then sure but in the vast majority of cases, this is going to be pay for play that does nothing to achieve any societal benefit and just funnels money from boosters to athletes and gives those "donors" a tax break. In most cases it's a sham (not saying it cannot be structured in a legitimate way and be a legit payment but it will not be usually) and it's a joke to give tax breaks for it.
If this is really what it's about, I am not sure why the local YMCA or Red Cross cannot organize an event, pay athletes for legit appearances, and have donors contribute directly to the YMCA or Red Cross.
Agreed. This is just people looking to save some money on taxes. Sure, it may attract a few more "big whales" to contribute, but I doubt that those people needed more help on tax write-offs.
*pounding the table and chanting*
"Pay for play! Pay for play! Pay for play!"
Oh this shit again. Is this the same thing he talked about 2 months ago, or the one he was referring to last month.
Just chiming in to ask everyone to stop using the phrase game changer unless you're talking about refs at Michigan games. Please. It's everywhere and screams click bait. When did everyone start using it?
I don't think anything Michigan ever does will be a "game changer" regarding NIL. we do things by the rules or what the rules should be... Doing something through some NIL collective isn't as good as soon Miami booster just giving a few million to a kid.
This is the same guy who got mad that his previous attempt at an NIL (that he gets to be in charge of) was rejected by Warde? Just feels like a whole bunch of pushing and shoving by guys eager to position themselves as the Kingmaker or influencer at their respective favorite university.
This sounds rather Ansonian of him.
Instead of "game changing" schemes, we need "game winning" ones.
I'm tired of hearing from Todd Anson. Say less, do more.
All promising NIL developments are speculative bullshit lubed with santorum and rocketing out of a pipe dream except the pipe is Anson's anus which is blowing smoke and full of hot air. I don't believe anything until we get more than two 5-stars in one recruiting cycle.
There are some really articulate people on here and some intense grammar police. Those people should all be standing in awe of your use of Santorum.
Both technically correct and artistically colorful.
Thanks. At least someone appreciates me.
I prefer the ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ Mafia it’s been working
I read “NIL Game Changer” and instantly think, great, we roll out an amazing idea for the SEC schools to copy and utilize better than we will. Maybe I’m bitter, but I feel like if it’s a money game, we will never win. Other schools are more dedicated to funneling money to recruits and no matter what we do, those schools will find a way to do it bigger. Does it mean we can’t compete on the field? No, not necessarily but I just don’t see Michigan ever “out-bidding” SEC schools for recruits. Once they are here, we can find the money to keep them, but I doubt we will ever buy a player/recruit because we are the highest bidder.
Logged in just to downvote. Is the OP friends with Anson? Or OP == Anson??
I may be wrong but I thought the initial push for nil was to give players the ability to make money off of their name, image or likeness OUTSIDE of the play on the field, and that the thought was that there would then be an evening up of the playing field (somewhat) as more top players would spurn the “traditional” way of getting money like the sec and OSU favored to go to schools where the legitimate opportunities for money were established.
Seems to me the nil thing has simply become a legalized version of what went on before, and the schools who paid players before are just doing the same things they did, just that it’s now couched in legal terms and agreements that make it all aboveboard. In short, the sec and OSU models of building rosters is the same as it was, just legalized, and they are still stockpiling the talent in that very small group of schools at the top. 🤷♂️
