Tennessee coach Josh Heupel with $9M/yr extension
The head coach salary market has really reset in the last 2 years. Wonder what the new Harbaugh contract will be. Maybe Santa had to step in because Warde can't count that high.

So it's probably safe to assume that he did not steal Blake's Bitchin Camero
January 24th, 2023 at 3:22 PM ^
Where you going in that bitchin Camaro?
January 24th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
I can’t tell if I’m too young or too old for this reference.
January 24th, 2023 at 4:14 PM ^
I have that same thought way too often these days
January 24th, 2023 at 4:42 PM ^
It gets worse. Some days I can't remember if I'm too old or young. Knowledge of which was once there.
January 24th, 2023 at 7:37 PM ^
Isn’t the real question - “How you gettin to the shore?”
January 24th, 2023 at 1:53 PM ^
good for him. that's a lot of dough.
January 24th, 2023 at 1:53 PM ^
something he might want to cut back on
January 24th, 2023 at 2:05 PM ^
truly wish people would stop making fun of people b/c they're fat. it's fucking gross. just stop it.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:13 PM ^
Can you provide a list of things for which we can make fun of people?
January 24th, 2023 at 2:31 PM ^
Well for sure not fat, cant saying disparaging about ugly people, short folks have declared that a no-fly zone, dont even think about the physically challenged, speech impediments are out, definitely not religion, really definitely not sexual preferences and really, really, REALLY not a person's skin color.
I think about all that's left are stupid people doing stupid things, they are most assuredly fair game for public ridicule and have no group to defend/stick up for them. Probably because nobody wants to admit they're stupid too so the dumb ones have to go it alone.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:32 PM ^
So OSU fans, then. OK with me!
January 24th, 2023 at 2:54 PM ^
Feel free to refere to me as being "altitudinally challenged."
January 24th, 2023 at 5:23 PM ^
Hey, MGrow, are we allowed to make fun of old people? Asking for a friend.
January 25th, 2023 at 10:11 AM ^
I'm pretty sure we are fair game (OK Boomer) along with host of other meme's
The ironic thing about us though is unlike everything else mentioned we ALL (if we dont get ourselves killed young) get to be on the recieving end of that one.
Father time is undefeated.

As someone who stutters,
I get kids asking me," Why do you talk like that?" " Am I going to start talking like that"
Adults will say they know someone who stutters and that it's OK (I don't care or need to know that)
I see adults trying to hold in laughter/smiles
At a comedy club, the comic starts talking to me, I stutter, he says if I just had a stroke. It gets a big laugh and I laugh also, he moves on from me. After the show in the handshake line, he see me and apologies big time. I tell him it's not a big deal it was funny.
I don't care, I can take it.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:17 PM ^
So which one are you talking about, "fat" or "phat"??? Can we make fun of or admire PAWG???
January 24th, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
We can still make fun of Charlie Weiss right?
January 24th, 2023 at 3:50 PM ^
Him and Bert --- always and forever, yes.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:21 PM ^
My buddy is fat and he says I can make fun of fat people.
January 24th, 2023 at 8:41 PM ^
I'm chubby. Fair game as long as it's actually funny. You can't just be like.. "Hey, you're kinda fat." That's just rude.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:27 PM ^
Found Charlie Weiss’ Mgoblog account

If Heupel has some kind of medical condition that makes it difficult for him to lose weight, I would agree that he shouldn’t be made fun of. But if it’s just due to his lifestyle, he doesn’t deserve our sympathy. If you eat like a pig and never exercise, that’s on you.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:42 PM ^
You’re right. It is gross and his doctor would more than likely recommend diet and exercise.
January 24th, 2023 at 3:20 PM ^
Amen!
I get that shaming people so they feel bad about themselves is wrong, but being fat is objectively bad for your health. I can say someone is overweight and they need to lose weight and not be making a value judgment on that person. We all have value, fat or not. But being fat is bad. End of story.

He might prescribe Provasic.

No. It causes liver damage.

Will do, except when it's this guy then all bets are off.
January 25th, 2023 at 7:11 AM ^
Why? Being fat is, with few exceptions, a result of personal choices. Being fat is you making poor food choices, eating way too much, and/or not exercising enough.
January 25th, 2023 at 9:25 AM ^
This is a huge misconception and not the case for the majority of overweight people. Most people who are overweight have bad genetics and can't overcome that. There are so many studies and documentaries that prove being overweight has very little to do with anything you mentioned - while they can be contributing factors - they are not the reason. Your gut biome, which is largely genetic, plays an incredible part in whether someone is fat or skinny - regardless of food choices, eating too much, or exercise. Millions of people who look fat, do eat healthy and exercise because it is healthy for them, but for most this only has marginal and mostly temporary effect on their appearance due to factors we are still in the early phases of understanding.
January 25th, 2023 at 10:02 PM ^
I am not comfortable with fat jokes. Too many good people fall into that category and many are easy targets (aren't we all?). But given the skyrocketing rate of obesity in the U.S. post the low-fat diet guidelines provided in the 70's, I would have to say that it is diet for most people. And, geez, your gut biome is guided by what you eat so I wouldn't go with "regardless of food choices". Have you ever eaten lunch in Silicon Valley? You can tell who is visiting from the mid-west by their waistline.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:22 PM ^
He looks like one of those unlucky guys who gains all his weight in his face.
January 24th, 2023 at 1:56 PM ^
Ward's going to need to take off his shoes and socks to count that high.
Jim will get more than this and definitely more than Tuck - with a contract that is above the board.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:29 PM ^
The best comment I ever heard relating to that type of insult was, "that guy is so stupid he needs to take off his shoes and socks, then drop his pants to count to 21."
January 24th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
He likely got to 20 and a half...
January 24th, 2023 at 2:03 PM ^
Tuck laughs at his little micro contract.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:06 PM ^
The dollar amounts being thrown at relatively unproven coaches is insane.
Heupel took over a 13-0 UCF team and then went 12-1, 10-3, and 6-4.
He was 7-6 in his first year at TN before going 11-2 this year.
That merits a long-term commitment at $9 million a year? A progressively worse performance at UCF and then one good year at TN?
Harbaugh is worth $15 million, if that's the case.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:13 PM ^
Yeah, Heupel wasn't all that popular toward the end of the UCF run and I do wonder how they'll do next year with a new QB (people forget but Joe Milton was the guy they picked to start two years ago and it was only once he got hurt that Hooker got a shot), a number of new WRs, and a defense that will have some turnover. They'll probably be okay but it is crazy he's getting paid like a top-10 coach based largely on 1 year.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
my suspicion is that he's getting paid like a new market top 50 coach and the top 10 coach new market will imminently reflect that.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:40 PM ^
Milton looked good in their bowl game, which could mean he's turned it around.
Or not. Will be interesting to see.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:54 PM ^
Is Joe getting a 6th season then or hasn't it been that many?
January 24th, 2023 at 4:15 PM ^
It’s just the COVID year messing with everything. Same reason why Cade has the same eligibility left as JJ.
2018 - played in less than 4 games at U-M earning redshirt
2019 - played as redshirt freshman at U-M
2020 - played at U-M but COVID year doesn’t count against eligibility
2021 - redshirt sophomore year at UT
2022 - redshirt junior year at UT
2023 - redshirt senior year at UT
January 24th, 2023 at 6:46 PM ^
Like BTB Grad said, Milton has another year of eligibility thanks to COVID. Hendon Hooker is also going to the NFL, so if he stays (and I couldn't find anything that says otherwise) he'll have a good chance to win the starting job.
January 24th, 2023 at 8:59 PM ^
We'll see. Before the bowl game he completed 50% of his passes against South Carolina (admittedly in a blowout late and with Hooker getting hurt unexpectedly), 52% against Vandy (with basically half his yardage coming on a bomb to an open Hyatt), and then the solid performance against a good (if somewhat undermanned) Clemson defense. So maybe he's turned it around or maybe he just had a good game. But I'm absolutely looking forward to UT being severely over-ranked coming into next year.
January 25th, 2023 at 9:27 AM ^
Well, yeah. I remember thinking Milton looked good against Minnesota in 2020.
His completion percentage fell in every game he played that year, though.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:41 PM ^
These are emotional decisions. That win over 'Bama was worth as much to them as their 1998 National Championship.
January 24th, 2023 at 5:22 PM ^
But it’s hard to follow a legend like Scott Frost. He was destined to be unpopular.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:13 PM ^
You make a valid point..... but look at #tuckcomin Mel's contract...... that dude should be paying msu to let him coach there.... LOL
January 24th, 2023 at 2:56 PM ^
No one should pay MSU to let them coach there
