The Lloyd Car Tunnel to be widened
According to Scott Bell, the Michigan Athletic Dept. has contacted season ticket holders who will have their seat location affected.

So THIS is what Warde has been focusing on...
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:14 AM ^
Word is he hasnt talked to the tunnel since last spring. Very alarming news.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:30 AM ^
Yet he was pictured next to the tunnel several times in the last 6 months, causing JUB to backtrack on his statement
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:58 AM ^
Clearly Warde didn’t inform Santa about this project
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:22 PM ^
The tunnel has been speaking with several NFL stadiums around the league who are known to be looking for new tunnels. The tunnel is said to "love Michigan . . . and expects to be Michigan's tunnel for the 2023 season."
January 23rd, 2023 at 8:05 PM ^
No tunnel knows the future.
January 23rd, 2023 at 7:19 PM ^
Great priorities
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:19 AM ^
This is a situation where a picture is worth 1000 words. I don't know what removable seats are in that location. It's unclear what the change is to me.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:24 AM ^
maybe in this area? This looks kinda movable.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:32 AM ^
The area you circled already looks removed on this aerial photo.
Perhaps they will also remove the area circled below.
It looks like these areas were movable so Lloyd's car and larger items of equipment could pass through the tunnel when the game wasn't going to be played.
The people who were notified are going to be pissed because those are some of the best seats in the Big House.
I wonder how many seats are affected and what it will do to the capacity of the Big House vs. whomever is #2.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:42 AM ^
EDIT: covered above.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:18 AM ^
Removing that small shelf of seats at the upper lip of the tunnel would extend the clear space above the tunnel entrance, but it does not widen the tunnel entrance width.
To widen the tunnel entrance, seats to the left and/or right of the entrance will have to be removed.
Maybe this step announced by the AD is actually being taken to prevent knucklehead fans from physically touching players and coaches from the seats immediately adjacent to the tunnel.
Widening the entrance won't change the width of the tunnel itself.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:21 AM ^
Half the entrance width is covered with temporary seats on game days. Removing those seats would seemingly create less of a bottleneck at the tunnel.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:46 PM ^
So Mel should be pleased.
January 23rd, 2023 at 7:20 PM ^
Shouldn’t Warde widen his resume search??????
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:45 AM ^
Yes, I assume that's what is at play here. That whole section comes out, it's usually removed during the week for equipment access. Probably will make it permanent now.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:39 AM ^
Yeah if you look at pictures of the stadium during the offseason or during the week before gameday, you’ll see those seats are moved in order to provide access to bringing in equipment to the field. It looks far more aesthetically pleasing to remove those seats, provides a lot more width for players entering & exiting the tunnel, and only comes at the cost of at most 50 seats? This would also allow for an ambulance to drive straight onto the field during a game, god forbid it’s needed; that’s what was done for Damar Hamlin and helped to save time in a critical moment like that. Seems like a sensible thing to do and one of the few things to not complain about Warde for.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:53 PM ^
Frankly that's going to look way better just from a symmetry standpoint. I'm sure they're doing it so a moron can't touch Mel Tucker's head again, but it's an aesthetically pleasing change too
January 23rd, 2023 at 2:28 PM ^
If Mel can't find another Kenneth Walker he might be lucky to get to come to our stadium again
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:26 AM ^
I have to think they're the temporary ones covering half the field entrance of the tunnel. Those are great seats. Would hate to see them go if I had one of those seats.
EDIT: See pic above
January 24th, 2023 at 7:52 AM ^
Can you see over the players and coaches on the sideline if you're that low?
Seems like the allure is you're on the tunnel and the teams are going to pass you and you can reach out and slap hands or get a wristband. The interactice experience but not the viewing experience.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:19 AM ^
Can we just give MSU a private tunnel and be done with it?
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:39 AM ^
Either that or we can airlift them out or create a trap door like they made for the Wicked Witch of the West when Dorothy melted her.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:31 AM ^
Dude. I like where you're going with this. ♫♪ From the banks of the Red Sewer. ♪♫
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:52 AM ^
If a private tunnel were to be created for the Spartans - my hope is that it would resemble the "escape approach" that Andy Dufresne used to exit Shawshank Prison.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:23 AM ^
Make a trap door and label it “For Spartan Dawgs ONLY”. Probably what they always wanted.
January 23rd, 2023 at 1:14 PM ^
I believe that would be, in common terms, a sewer pipe?
January 23rd, 2023 at 8:16 PM ^
They’re creating an express lane for 10 felonies or less to accommodate sparty.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:19 AM ^
Ridiculous.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:37 PM ^
So we are changing our stadium and tunnel (The Lloyd Carr Tunnel) because of msu? Boy those fuckers are going to pay next year.
January 23rd, 2023 at 2:31 PM ^
It is. But I guess rebuilding part of the stadium is easier than getting MSU players to simply not-assault people
January 23rd, 2023 at 9:04 PM ^
Why does that cowardly shit still have a job?

So many questions:
- Why the hell do we need a Car Tunnel?
- And it leads to Widened (wherever that is)?
- Why is it named after Lloyd?

Why the hell do we need a Car Tunnel?
Off the top of my head….it probably makes sense to be able to get an ambulance on the field. Hopefully they are making this happen.
Where M screwed up is putting one tunnel at midfield instead of putting it in the bad corner seats.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:01 PM ^
The joke … you have missed it.
Look again at the title of the thread.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:47 PM ^
You could’ve spelled it “Carr” to make it easier for some of us! My brain is not able to process the 6 degrees of joke separation today. I’m also having trouble thinking 4th dimensionally.

Ambulances would be my guess.

Finally good to see Warde earning that paycheck. Maybe now he can go ask Santa Ono if there's anything else that needs done.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:24 AM ^
It will be interesting to see how the Tunnel responds to this.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:57 AM ^
My guess is that it'll more fervently plan its attacks on 2023 away teams in response
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:40 AM ^

Once again Warde bends over for the B10.
The tunnel has been safe for 95 years. The only time its not safe is when you allow criminals to enter. Widening doesn’t help. For criminals you need to install bars.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:07 AM ^
The tunnel has been safe for 95 years. The entrance has not always been the current width. It was narrowed to squeeze in more seats. The result was it takes longer to exit and enter the tunnel. It is easier to keep teams apart if they can get in and out faster. Warde’s decision is an example of putting player safety above revenue. I applaud him for this decision.
