Harbaugh's Response to Santa's Tweet
Seems like a good sign.
Though I'm disappointed JH is doing this again, I'm still rooting for him to stay.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:15 PM ^
reading tea leaves: harbaugh truly wants to stay, cares about the team and the fans so he replies, but knows that a few details of importance have to be worked out.
it ain't over until it's over, but i may not have to pay that $1 to mgrowold.
go jim, go blue!
January 12th, 2023 at 5:25 PM ^
Give Jim 10-years, $125 million. Frankly it’s embarrassing that hasn’t happened yet. It probably should have happened the week after he dominated Ohio St. for the second year in a row. Is Warde posturing for the Big Ten commissioner gig? This makes no sense. Amateur hour if nothing else.
January 12th, 2023 at 6:58 PM ^
It's not the money, it's the buyout clause.
Jim loves Michigan and wants to stay, but he also wants to have the flexibility to consider the NFL down the road, and I can't blame him.
January 12th, 2023 at 9:47 PM ^
Best guess so far.
January 13th, 2023 at 10:10 AM ^
I don’t blame him for wanting to explore the NFL. But people also need to stop blaming Warde. He has put a very good deal on the table for Jim and wants some stability. It’s Jim who’s holding this up
January 12th, 2023 at 5:32 PM ^
When is Jim ever going to have more leverage--why in heck wouldn't he, wouldn't any of us, providing the wisdom, not take full advantage and optimize conditions as fully as possible for the team and himself?
January 12th, 2023 at 5:47 PM ^
I'm waiting for Warde's reply to Harbaugh's reply to Santa.
NEXT, I'm waiting for the NCAA to sandwich in their work.
AFTER THAT I'm waiting for the MGoBlogosphere to determine what all of that means.
(Does getting exercised about unknowns count as exercise?)
January 12th, 2023 at 6:03 PM ^
Fire Warde. Useless paper pushing stooge.
Lost Beilein
Lost Bakich
Compounded hockey scandal
Won’t pay and give 100% support to the best coach in the B1G and top 10 coach in all of football.
January 12th, 2023 at 6:15 PM ^
Shiiiit...
I don't hear about warde too much but I have been neutral-positive about him but if you look at it this way it definitely makes him not so great and we should do better.
Wonder what the positive thing he has done for Michigan. Howard hire? Felt like that was taking a chance in the beginning
January 12th, 2023 at 6:29 PM ^
I mean it seems pretty clear both Santa and Jim are sending a message to the public and it’s hard not to connect dots that say Warde is holding up the process.
I doubt Harbaugh is asking for anything unreasonable.
It would seem Warde is at a precipice.
January 12th, 2023 at 7:21 PM ^
What happens is that you look great paying someone light guaranteed money with performance incentves - until - you look awful when that employee far exceeds all metrics and his peers are suddenly paid significantly more. At that point, it is time to reset your thinking, apologize in private and offer him very large dollars.
Warde is in a losing posture and bargaining position; he needs to offer JH a sweetheart deal with no obnoxious retention hooks and ask JH to sign and accept sincere apologies.
January 12th, 2023 at 7:21 PM ^
Losing Beilein and Bakich has nothing to do with Warde. Beilein wanted to coach in the NBA and there's nothing he could've done. Michigan is a mid-major program with a lot of success and Clemson is a better coaching job than Michigan.
January 13th, 2023 at 8:09 AM ^
nm - i think you meant baseball
January 12th, 2023 at 8:43 PM ^
He didnt "lose" either of them. They went on to bigger things.
January 12th, 2023 at 9:06 PM ^
This has gotten idiotic.
1. He didn't lose Beilein.
2. He very much lost Bakich.
3. He didn't compound the hockey scandal.
4. There have been MULTIPLE reports from insiders that Warde isn't the problem with the pay. Including people like On3 mods who are always overly harsh on Warde (they seem to be blaming the Regents who won't sign off on the big deal, but that was a week ago).
You all are literally making shit up. It's old.
January 13th, 2023 at 8:01 AM ^
There's literally nothing Warde can do to keep Bakich. Michigan isn't a destination school and Clemson is a better job than Michigan. Clemson gets more support from both administration and fans and has a better chance of competing nationally.
January 12th, 2023 at 8:30 PM ^
The NCAA to sandwich in their work. I see what you did there!
January 13th, 2023 at 11:01 AM ^
Don't hold you're breath. Warde will say nothing until the tweet's contract expires.
January 12th, 2023 at 7:09 PM ^
I find it telling that he thanked Ono for his support but not Warde, who was also mentioned in the tweet as supporting Harbuagh.
January 12th, 2023 at 7:22 PM ^
Right: there were three people in that room and this omission isn't an accident. I think we now have a much clearer picture of what was happening and why Harbaugh has entertained at least some discussion with potential alternate employers. Warde hasn't gotten this done.
January 12th, 2023 at 10:32 PM ^
FFS that's 2 social media posts in 8 days where JH couldn't be more wishy washy.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:16 PM ^
What on earth is even happening.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:19 PM ^
Ono's tweet was a reaction to the Peter Thamel piece claiming Michigan would not offer Harbaugh a contract while sanctions were pending. Someone at Michigan is paying attention to these things and reacting in real time, which is good, as opposed to I dunno off on some private fishing vessel.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:24 PM ^
I missed that piece and I’m not 100% following all the sanctions stuff, but if what I’ve read on here is true, Warde needs to publicly state this is bullshit and we’re not dealing with it. I’m not a Warde basher by any stretch and I don’t think he needs to get up there and call out by names other schools (because that ultimately doesn’t help and earns enemies) but he needs to forcefully say this is bullshit and call out the NCAA. The only thing I can think of is the higher powers and lawyers are telling him no.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:37 PM ^
Reading between the lines, it sounds like Jim does NOT think Warde is being supportive of him or the team.
The latter may be more important to Jim, the way he thinks. I'm sure that he would be fierily indignant on behalf of the student athletes if Warde bent over and took one from the NCAA.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
I also think this is a way for Jim to put it back on the AD to give him what he wants. He is basically saying "I want to be here. If I am not, it is because of these people" and probably specifically Ward. This is all gamesmanship at this point.
Just give Jim what he wants. No coach short of Kirby and Saban has done more in the last two years to earn it.
January 13th, 2023 at 8:16 AM ^
And he has done more with less. He does not have the roster that Georgia, Alabama and OSU have. He is getting as much as he can out of these kids.
January 12th, 2023 at 7:32 PM ^
Grow some balls, Warde
January 12th, 2023 at 10:34 PM ^
He'll need to get a spine first to support the semblance of any balls.
January 12th, 2023 at 8:27 PM ^
Nah. Warde couldn't even keep an SEC ref crew out of the National semifinals featuring us. He should follow Kevin Warren out the door. I kind of stood up for Warde since he came to Michigan but after these shenanigans I'm finished.
January 12th, 2023 at 6:00 PM ^
Pete Thamel is the worst, after Chris Balas.
January 13th, 2023 at 2:43 AM ^
I normally smirk derisively at "writer X loathes university Y," but I truly believe that Pete Thamel hates UM in his actual person. I have no idea why. So I am not surprised he'd write something just to try to make things worse for Michigan. He and his Long Island Lockjaw accent can go F themselves.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:21 PM ^
"I would love to be here with an Pres and AD that wants to get the most out of our athletics but dont think the AD wants the same thing at this point; act accordingly if you support this"
January 12th, 2023 at 6:02 PM ^
I hope he doesn’t say “an pres”
January 12th, 2023 at 5:16 PM ^
Yes. Rooting for him to stay. And if anyone can somehow spin this positively to recruits, it's our quirky Michigan-man coach. Don't like it, but...
January 12th, 2023 at 5:17 PM ^
Seems clear that Harbaugh wants to stay. This is about getting a good deal that addresses the issues that matter.
January 12th, 2023 at 11:19 PM ^
This! I’m beginning to think this is about NIL, assistant salaries and academic/transfer leniency to help him keep up with the big boys that are just throwing money around. He sees the need to keep up, but in the Michigan way. Warde must be wanting to stick with traditions or something similar.
But what do I know. I didn’t even stay at a Holiday Inn last night. 🤷♂️
January 12th, 2023 at 6:10 PM ^
Notice Harbaugh thanks Santa for his support of the team and himself. Doesn't mention Warde......
January 12th, 2023 at 5:20 PM ^
Next thread will be Santa's response to Harbaugh's response.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:35 PM ^
Either that or the President of Iran will weigh in.
January 12th, 2023 at 6:13 PM ^
Inshallah.
January 12th, 2023 at 6:16 PM ^
But what about the latest JUB tweet?
January 12th, 2023 at 7:09 PM ^
That’s a bingo!
January 12th, 2023 at 7:46 PM ^
We don't merely read tea leaves here. No, we read entire plantations of tea leaves and we are probably the reason I cannot find my normal Darjeeling at the moment, as we are too busy reading leaves.
January 12th, 2023 at 6:36 PM ^
Brooklyn 99 was so good.
January 12th, 2023 at 7:01 PM ^
Criminally underrated show.
