Gus really gets on my nerves but I must thank him for Blake 'The Great' Corum and now my personal favorite: The Don.
Also yes, as he will run for 150+ against TCU.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:41 PM ^
Well if you like both of those, he really couldn't be getting on your nerves, could he?
December 5th, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
He's too hype man for me. The world famous Ohio State Buckeyes is thing is dumb. He also overcompensates to not sound like a homer at times.
I suppose when I type it out it's not as pronounced as I sometimes feel during games lol 🤷
December 5th, 2022 at 4:12 PM ^
The world famous thing is because Jesse Owens made Ohio State famous when he upstaged Adolf Hitler's Aryan pureblood olympians in the Berlin Olympics in 1936.
I presume it's still somewhere in the new building, but there was a plaque honoring Jesse Owens at Ferry Field for the last 85+ years after he set (edit: 4, not 5) world records in less than 90 minutes (edit: it was in 45 mins) in a dual meet between OSU and UM in Ann Arbor.
I wasn't a fan of "world famous" either, but with the relevant context it's a lot more tolerable.
December 5th, 2022 at 5:29 PM ^
Did he really make OSU famous around the world? People in other countries knew where Owens went to school?
December 5th, 2022 at 10:36 PM ^
Thanks for the info. Excellent context to have! Much more understandable why Gus would continue to use the term.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:03 PM ^
Gus and Klatt are my favorite duo.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:09 PM ^
My only gripe is Gus can be a little *too* enthusiastic sometimes, like he calls every scoring play like it's the game winning touchdown in the natty. That being said, I'd rather a play by play guy be a little too hype as opposed to too deadpan.
December 5th, 2022 at 4:51 PM ^
Yes, loved him at first, still do really.
But when he's amped up he'll be at 100 for way too long. Sometimes I just need him to quiet down and talk like a normal person. We don't need to be yelling about anything on the field on 1st down run for 4 yards.

Perhaps too much of the delicious dark roast coffee at Hampton Inns for breakfast...
December 5th, 2022 at 3:47 PM ^
They make it fun
December 5th, 2022 at 4:30 PM ^
Much more so when you are winning.
December 5th, 2022 at 4:59 PM ^
Klatt has penchant of seeing one thing happening one time and running with a frequently false narrative that you get sick of hearing after the 10th or 15th time he's brought it up.
But I notice a lot of blatantly false reports or information out of the announcers in a lot of these games.
You can really see exactly how the money in this league gets sucked right to the top and because of it there is virtually zero quality control at any level beyond the facade.

My favorite duo is when we're running it
December 5th, 2022 at 3:12 PM ^
If Michigan wins the national title and does in on the heels of a dominant effort from Donovan Edwards, I fully expect someone on this blog to overlay Donovan's face onto some iconic picture of Michael or Vito Corleone. Maybe we can petition Brian to make it the MGoBlog banner until the end of time.
December 6th, 2022 at 11:21 AM ^
Bite your tongue. Gus Johnson is a national treasure.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:21 PM ^
Certainly possible and would be incredible for Edwards to get to 1,000 from where he was before The Game.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:24 PM ^
He might even eclipse Corum's total if we happen to get a rematch in the title game.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:34 PM ^
Might have a 2,000 yard season if we see Bucks again.

My gosh, logged in just to upvote this. You, sir, win the Internet today!
December 5th, 2022 at 3:42 PM ^
Which one?
December 5th, 2022 at 2:24 PM ^
meh, all he has to do is average 66.6 yards a game x 15 games.
It's in the bag.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:37 PM ^
He’s missed 2 or 3 games iirc and he’s averaging >7 ypc.
December 5th, 2022 at 4:41 PM ^
even better
December 5th, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
Quite a breakout these last couple games. Seems likely and will be a great accomplishment for him, the O-line, and the program.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
I think it'll depend on whether TCU wants to deal with JJ passing or Donovan running. If TCU plays it more like our first 9 opponents did and they hang back, then yeah Donovan's probably getting 111 pretty easy. If TCU looks at what Illinois, OSU, and Purdue did and wants to stack the box the same...then yeah he probably still gets 111 but it'll be harder
December 5th, 2022 at 2:58 PM ^
My guess is that TCU hangs back. They're built to defend against Big 12 offenses, and from what I saw, their CBs and Safeties are pretty decent.
This might be an MSU-style "let Michigan drive and then try to hold them to FGs" gameplan. Which...wasn't the worst idea in the world from MSU's coaching staff. Damn shame they couldn't pay it off (/cackles)
December 5th, 2022 at 3:13 PM ^
Only Illinois and Iowa held us to fewer points, which is impressive for MSU considering their defense is, uhh, trash.
December 5th, 2022 at 5:05 PM ^
If TCU holds UM to 29 points then they probably have a decent shot at an upset. I would have said the same for OSU but they opted for the opposite strategy, and their defense (unlike MSU) is terrible against power.
December 6th, 2022 at 3:09 AM ^
That staff and team definitely had worse ideas...
December 6th, 2022 at 9:25 AM ^
I doubt they go with an "either/or" game plan. I'm sure they are going to try and split the difference by finding a way to disguise guys in coverage on RPOs or key LBs off TEs.
Whether they have the personnel that can actually pull it off well, or we exploit it using lots of play-action, might be the rock-paper-scissors meta-game. But I don't think they can afford to sell out on one or the other.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
So far, ain't it grand?
And wouldn't it be grand?
December 5th, 2022 at 2:27 PM ^
Not if you're blind
December 5th, 2022 at 2:29 PM ^
McCarthy is 5 TD passes away from tying the Michigan single season record. If they play two more games, he might have a shot. Bell is 108 yards away from the most receiving yards in a season during the Harbaugh era (Darboh’s 862 in 2016 currently leads). All of these guys are benefiting, of course, from playing more games in a season.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:06 PM ^
Let's light this candle!!!!
all the records.... break all the records....
Isn't Moody just a fg away from becoming the all time leading scorer too?
December 5th, 2022 at 6:24 PM ^
Would love to see Bell get to 1,000
December 5th, 2022 at 2:31 PM ^
He actually needs 128 yards (he's gained 889 but his net is 872). Given that TCU is just so-so on run defense and we don't have a proven alternative to Edwards at the moment*, it seems very likely.
*Although with a month of practice, Mullings or Stokes might take a leap forward.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:52 PM ^
If we don't that probably means we lost in the semifinal
December 5th, 2022 at 2:53 PM ^
Looking at TCUs run D, pretty likely.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:52 PM ^
There's no way TCU holds Edwards under 111 yards.
December 5th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
We better.
December 5th, 2022 at 4:50 PM ^
It's a done deal. Count on it

2,383 between the 2? That's heisman worthy.
