B1G releases statement regarding tunnel
The B1G issues a statement today:
https://bigten.org/news/2022/11/28/general-big-ten-conference-official-statement.aspx
Basically stated that UofM failed to follow procedures to ensure safety for game participants and issued a reprimand.
For MSU, 7/8 players are issued suspensions for time served (4 games). The helmet swinger Crump is also suspended for the first 8 games next year. School also got a 100k fine.

Going to be tough to fit "got UM reprimanded" on the bowl ring this year.
...oh wait
November 28th, 2022 at 3:16 PM ^
Imagine the impact their shadow underground media messaging could do with this!
November 28th, 2022 at 3:53 PM ^
That is a severely underrated comment.
Take my upvote Damnit!

you win the internet today Matt
November 28th, 2022 at 3:16 PM ^
Waiting for RCMB logic to talk about that reprimand means Michigan was 100% at fault.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
They have an 80 comment thread already. "The reprimand shows that M was responsible, wait for the massive lawsuit to hit them"
November 28th, 2022 at 3:37 PM ^
Well, we've learned our lesson. Next time we'll ship MSU players to their locker room one at a time in the same box that Jurassic Park used for raptor transport.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:46 PM ^
Silence of the Lambs style, maybe?
November 28th, 2022 at 3:56 PM ^
When they travel to away games, I hope their charter uses the call sign "Con Air"
November 28th, 2022 at 3:40 PM ^
They are also demanding for the release of the secret video that shows UM instigated the whole thing
November 28th, 2022 at 4:12 PM ^
Ah yes. Thats my favorite part. They are 100% certain that its all our fault.
November 28th, 2022 at 4:36 PM ^
they eat paste for breakfast. Nothing surprises me on that board.
November 28th, 2022 at 4:51 PM ^
"The tunnel made me do it." Can't wait to see that lawsuit.
November 28th, 2022 at 5:13 PM ^
Just saw the ESPN report by Tom VanHaaren, which seems to go out of its way to say both MSU and Michigan were equally at fault.
His first paragraph (and the title) says that both MSU and Michigan were disciplined. Then, not till the 4th paragraph does he indicate that Staae was fined $100,000 (or, what I've read elsewhere, that it's the most the Big Ten has penalized a member school.
And he takes till nearly the end before mentioning that UM's discipline is a reprimand for not providing "adequate protection" against attacks.
If I didn't know better, I'd think it was written by one of the Freep / Lansing Journal homers.

"The Michigan Tunnel shouldn't have dressed so slutty"
Maybe I'm biased but the reprimand seems pretty victim blame-y to me.
November 28th, 2022 at 5:30 PM ^
I knew—and commented here—that once Janklin bitched about the tunnel that it would become something for opposing coaches to use for their own bitching.
Of course I never expected actual attacks.

I visited RCMB before the MSU game, and shockingly enough there were multiple commenters encouraging MSU fans to attack U of M fans.
And then there's this shit from a Detroit News article about the incident. In which Khary Crump's attorney had this to say: “Anytime there’s an assault where there is a fight involved, self-defense is always in play,” Nichols said. “All we’re going to do is prepare for trial, look at the discovery, and go from there. [...] This was a gut-punch to KJ, being charged the day before Thanksgiving, but he’s going to get through it.”
I thoroughly enjoyed one mgoblog thread where multiple commenters felt jail/prison time was too harsh (don't want to impact the poor guy's future!) for Khary Crump. But hey, if a WMU hockey captain can get probation for a second incident of sexual assault (the first having "three credible witnesses" (according to a law enforcement officer himself), and the only consequences being from the university itself and not the justice system), screw it. If some "common Joe" on the street committed assault they'd surely receive the same punishment, right guys? Commit actual assault with a weapon that can cause brain damage (or actually caused a concussion), and you're more deserving of a lesser punishment than non-athletes who commit lesser crimes without laying a hand on their victims. I'm disappointed in those comments, as well as the U of M athletic department that keeps sending its football teams into a rivalry game against teams of MSU players who have proven they can't help but commit assault on and off the field. I'm disappointed in a way that I could never possibly put into words.
Edit: Poor Khary Crump. Blake Corum has managed somehow not to commit assault, and he delivered food last thanksgiving and this one too. But let's throw a pity party for Khary Crump.

It's like when your mom sternly tells you "and you, you're the big brother, you should set a better example" right before packing little brother off to his room and grounding him for a week, just so little brother doesn't think he's being singled out even though he really deserves to be. But you get dessert at dinner and he doesn't, so everyone knows who's really in trouble.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
Why aren't they naming the football staff member who the Big Ten reprimanded? Chronologically speaking (even if nothing else) he's an adult and there's no reason to protect his identity.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
I assume that's the staff member that Bacon said was yelling to break Corums knees.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:21 PM ^
Has to be that coward Ben Mathis.
Edit: Mathers!
November 28th, 2022 at 3:30 PM ^
Ben Mathis(-Lilley) is the author of the recent book "The Hot Seat" in which Harbaugh was prominently featured.
Ben Mathers is the MSU Director of Football Operations.

Sir Robin? He is good at skipping (daintily). At the risk of offending his gender.
November 28th, 2022 at 7:04 PM ^
"Run away! Run away!"
November 28th, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
It's almost certainly the staff member who confronted the head ref as the refs tried to leave the field.
November 28th, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
Yes, this. I would find it hard to imagine the Big Ten would stand for that kind of behavior from a coach or player.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
Yeah, I'm curious about that too. The staffer has supposedly already been dismissed, but I don't think that would prevent the Big Ten from releasing more information.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:42 PM ^
They want to wait until MSU has a chance to fight the FOIA request and lawsuit.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
well....that'll teach'm....
the suspension is fine, and the criminal charges will certainly be plead down, but the civil suit.....
I'm guessing the civil suit is going to be a doozie! Since Mathers is the Director of Football Operations and he ran from the incident instead of trying to stop it, MSU will be named in the suit, as well as Mathers and Crump. How big a check is MSU willing to write to make this go away?
November 28th, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
I'm neither a lawyer nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express, but it seems that MSU has to be included to make this at all worthwhile to pay for the fat cat attorneys* likely to be leading the civil side. What would it take for the University to be found negligent in this case?
November 28th, 2022 at 3:20 PM ^
Step 1 of the "shadow structure."
November 28th, 2022 at 3:23 PM ^
I thought the Three Phase plan proposed by that RCMB poster felt familiar...
November 28th, 2022 at 5:17 PM ^
Step 2, cut a hole in the box.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:20 PM ^
So according to the Big 10, she shouldn't have been wearing a short skirt?
Surprised they're not making us build a new tunnel.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:23 PM ^
Yes clearly the shadow structure needs some victim shamming to push its agenda.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
100 years versus 8 fools. I like the odds.
November 28th, 2022 at 4:18 PM ^
Michigan wasn't providing enough security to protect everyone from the violent, criminal behavior of the visiting team? Where does this end? We have to put a ring of state troopers around the MSU team the entire time they're in the Stadium?
November 28th, 2022 at 4:44 PM ^
National Guard maybe.
November 28th, 2022 at 6:39 PM ^
God I would LOVE it if UM brought in riot police to surround the entire MSU team and staff the next time they come to the Big House. Like, full riot gear and everything FACING MSU as if they’re liable to start something at any minute.
You want adequate security? We’ll give you adequate security.
November 28th, 2022 at 5:02 PM ^
Basically what it seems like. Insane to place blame on Michigan when it shouldn’t ever be expected that opposing fans with jump a player and then beat him with helmets.
November 28th, 2022 at 5:20 PM ^
This has been immediately addressed. A new route to the stadium’s visitor entrance will now be exclusively provided for MSU during this treasured rivalry game. The University of Michigan fully acknowledges and humbly accepts the findings and recommendations of the Big 10 Conference Administration.
November 28th, 2022 at 5:31 PM ^
Shockingly enough, PSU is another team using the tunnel excuse for their bullshit (throwing sandwiches and peanuts at Michigan players, etc). There is obviously a big difference between assault vs. throwing shit, but in both cases the tunnel is the excuse for the douchebaggery from both opposing teams.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:21 PM ^
Weak.
The Big 10 front office is desperate to show that they are even-handed.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:21 PM ^
Just when they think it is over... Tom Mars says "howdy".
November 28th, 2022 at 3:23 PM ^
If crump can play if he transfers, I bet he leaves.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:36 PM ^
Hoping Crump leaves either way, but this is a punishment that should follow him no matter where he may transfer.
As a side note to this, the Michigan game is game #7 on next season's spartie schedule (game #8 for us), so he definitely won't be on the sidelines that day.
And I'm still firmly of the belief that this game should be removed from the schedules
1) at least two years (preferably longer), until Staee makes meaningful culture changes; and
2) made no longer a protected rivalry. Let's instead return to playing for the Little Brown Jug on an annual basis.
November 28th, 2022 at 3:38 PM ^
Couldn't agree more re #2.
November 28th, 2022 at 4:19 PM ^
Completely agree. Let MSU try to gain a particle of legitimacy without playing U-M. Get them off the schedule a few years, or only schedule them once every 3 years or so.
November 28th, 2022 at 5:22 PM ^
If they don't play Michigan at all would they even sell out that concrete dump?
