Georgia DC Dan Lanning to Oregon
Per the AJC

So now Georgia has to deal with what Michigan fans feared might happen with Gattis.

Well I'll be. Everything is coming up Millhouse.
December 10th, 2021 at 4:52 PM ^
I'm wearing my "floods"!
December 10th, 2021 at 5:08 PM ^
Not so fast, my friends:
Multiple sources have told me the report of Georgia DC Dan Lanning being the next Oregon coach is inaccurate. The @ajc reported that news earlier today.

That’s because…HE’S REALLY GOING TO USC (!!!)
December 10th, 2021 at 4:49 PM ^
The article indicates it is not known if he will leave before the CFP games but it should impact things for Georgia's defensive planning in some fashion.
December 10th, 2021 at 4:51 PM ^
I would shed no tears if Michigan ended up on the right side of a Durkin-ing for once.
December 10th, 2021 at 4:49 PM ^
Well this day is working out quite fortuitously for us I might add

Too early to start the drinking thread?
December 10th, 2021 at 5:17 PM ^
Never too early.
Besides, 5 o'clock was 17 minutes ago.

Always Happy Hour somewhere!

Herbsaint, with a dash of buckeye tears.

Oh man... Vegas lines are about to shift....I hear Kerry Combs is looking for a job..lol
December 10th, 2021 at 10:50 PM ^
Michigan is +8 as of 1 minute ago at Bovada. I placed a bet at +7.5 right after the B1G championship. So the line has gone up a tick. My prediction is the public betting will get much heavier in the 3 or 4 days leading up to the semi-final and the line will move down to Michigan +6, maybe +5.5. Whatever though, just WIN. THE. GAME.
December 10th, 2021 at 11:05 PM ^
What makes you think the public is going to move it 2-2.5 points? Seems the sharps hit it pretty hard on UGA out of the gates at 7.5, can’t imagine they’d back off if it ever got lower than that.
December 10th, 2021 at 4:58 PM ^
FWIW, Finebaum is reporting that a couple or his sources say this isn’t accurate
December 10th, 2021 at 5:02 PM ^
Yeah well any rumors that hurt his little SEC he'll say isn't true. Especially if it involves, in someway, something to do with Harbaugh. F that guy
December 10th, 2021 at 5:12 PM ^
He does have a little SEC; I have friends who can verify.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:45 PM ^
You’ve got some really desperate friends if they’ve done anything with Paul’s little SEC…
December 10th, 2021 at 6:00 PM ^
Saban sure did....

Now seeing Bruce Feldman say the same
December 10th, 2021 at 5:00 PM ^
That is a fascinating hire - given the apparent fanbase/donor chatter for the reappearance of Kelly (the non-purple faced one).
Have to admit, at a certain level I'm rooting for the hires of this nature (Venables to Oklahoma, Deboer at Washington) to turn out to be better than Riley at USC and Kelly (purple faced one) at LSU and Cristobal at Miami.
Guess that makes me a crusty, get off my lawn type.
December 10th, 2021 at 7:25 PM ^
I don't get why anyone would begrudge someone for making a career decision that they feel is in their best interest.

December 10th, 2021 at 5:01 PM ^
Lots of pushback from sec and oregon sources saying it is not happening according to pete finebaum.Oregon media saying he hasnt even been offered
GO BLUE
December 10th, 2021 at 5:03 PM ^
Umbig11 was that you that offered up that insider info??
December 10th, 2021 at 5:08 PM ^
ESD is coming up. It will be hard for Oregon for to get someone before that. May be this is not the guy. But if he is, this is most likely to happen before ESD.
December 10th, 2021 at 9:55 PM ^
It's almost like he got Herbstreited.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:02 PM ^
Nope, don't want to hear this lalalala. Just like OSU guys have the flu pre game, nope, want them full strength no excuses. A victory feels better going in with both teams not having losing excuses.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:16 PM ^
To me..a win, is a win, is a win. I don't care. I'll take what we can get.
December 10th, 2021 at 7:32 PM ^
Yeah, I don't give a rat's ass if OSU had the flu or cooties or the Bubonic Plague. A win is a win and nobody will remember the background 5 years from now.
December 11th, 2021 at 3:56 AM ^
We have had more than our share of situational excuses for a loss. One or two that favors us shouldn't even the score, let alone allow for the opposite to use it, unless they are an entitled group of pseudo students who can't fathom falling from their throne.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:05 PM ^
Doesn’t sound likes it’s accurate. At least yet.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:06 PM ^
I would prefer this to not happen. Michigan has a young DC with strong ties to Georgia that feels like they could be a target to fill that vacancy.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:09 PM ^
Really? You are saying our DC is going to go become Georgia DC before the playoff game? Ain't happening.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:20 PM ^
He is a guy from Boston who spent two years as a grad assistant at GA, who owes most of his career to the Harbaughs. I think you are stretching the phrase “strong ties.”
December 10th, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
Ok that's not the whole story- Mike Macdonald may have been born in Boston, but he went to high school in suburban Atlanta, went to and graduated from UGA, while coaching at a high school in Athens, GA as an assistant, before serving on UGA staff for 4 seasons.
I don't think he'd leave after one year given his ties with the Harbaugh brothers, and the fact that UGA is mainly Kirby Smart's defense, but let's not downplay his Georgia ties.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:39 PM ^
No offense couzen Rick,But bullshit speculation like this is why message boards can be regarded as cesspools of rumors.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:53 PM ^
Sounds like you couldn't be bothered to glance at his Wikipedia. I'd wager he has stronger ties to the Georgia football program than most readers on MGoBlog have to Michigan football. Maybe his ties to the Harbaugh family are stronger. Maybe he wouldn't be a candidate. I'd rather not find out.
December 11th, 2021 at 1:58 AM ^
I don't think that's saying much. The majority of us likely have zero ties to the football program directly or indirectly.
December 11th, 2021 at 8:56 AM ^
My point exactly. If we were in that position I think we'd all have a hard time keeping our emotions out of making that decision and we are just fans without years of hard work spent building up our alma matter.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:07 PM ^
They seem to think Will Muschamp will be his replacement. I'm sure it's true, but leaked prematurely.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:24 PM ^
Will Muschamp is always the replacement.
December 10th, 2021 at 6:59 PM ^
Muschamp is a bit of a lunatic, but he's a very good DC.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:28 PM ^
I almost posted under the Gattis thread: Why the hell isn't any poaching Lanning!?
Welp.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:30 PM ^
Yeah we had on here not 1, but 2 threads about Riley going to LSU.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
Nice.

Not so fast per Feldman:
"Am told by a source that the report that UGA DC Dan Lanning has been hired as the next head coach at Oregon is not true."
