Whoa!
December 2nd, 2021 at 7:26 AM ^
Obviously off-topic, but I recently had a conversation with my (college-level) students about the spelling of whoa/woah. Long story short, they were overwhelmingly team "woah," while I was in favor of "whoa." It seems that "whoa" is still the "official" spelling in dictionaries and style guides, but "woah" is often listed as an alternative. Based on the fact that younger people seem committed to "woah," I suspect over time it may edge out "whoa" as the proper spelling. Woe is me.

I am Team Whoa and will not fall victim to the Woahk Mob.
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:11 AM ^
whoa is appropriate for training dogs and that will never change....
December 2nd, 2021 at 10:31 AM ^
Young person, can confirm. It's "woah" to me.

Anyone know what he’s been up too since retiring?

December 2nd, 2021 at 10:32 AM ^
Woah, Whoa, Woe, until I see that fixed on the official schedules, I'm not believing it.
December 2nd, 2021 at 9:37 AM ^
Oh no, is he ill?
December 2nd, 2021 at 10:28 AM ^
WHOA!
How the heck did ldevon manage to edit his OP from "whoa" to "woe"?
December 2nd, 2021 at 5:46 AM ^
Woes*
Basketball schoolers deserve just as much of a knife twist right now as Team Campbell.
Football school.
December 2nd, 2021 at 6:20 AM ^
I secretly had an urge to smack anyone who said this.
December 2nd, 2021 at 5:53 AM ^
Now just trade a better basketball season in exchange for a bad crew season.
December 2nd, 2021 at 5:56 AM ^
LOL, as someone who was on crew.... I'm not saying a word!
December 2nd, 2021 at 7:52 AM ^
Isn’t that what Brian Kelly did for a good football season, sacrificed a kid on the camera crew?
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:16 AM ^
I want to laugh, but god I'd feel so low for doing it at the expense of a student's death.
December 2nd, 2021 at 9:44 AM ^
Too soon.
December 2nd, 2021 at 9:47 AM ^
Also they were 7-5 and played in the Sun Bowl so...doesn't seem like it worked.
December 2nd, 2021 at 11:03 AM ^
I want to upvote this because I appreciate the wit and dark humor. But, I think I'd feel bad for upvoting it.

You can blame me. We moved to Chicago in summer 2012, just in time for basketball to start its magical run to its first Final Four in 20 years. This fall, we moved back to Michigan. My family and I are very sorry.
December 2nd, 2021 at 6:01 AM ^
obligatory.
December 2nd, 2021 at 6:26 AM ^
Also obligatory
December 2nd, 2021 at 12:11 PM ^
Also, also obligatory
December 2nd, 2021 at 6:28 AM ^
It's obvious Michigan basketball had to die so Michigan football could live. I guess we aren't allowed to have good football, basketball, and hockey all at once
December 2nd, 2021 at 6:45 AM ^
ldevon’s choice….
December 2nd, 2021 at 7:40 AM ^
...which is a lot like "Sophie's Choice", but considerably less morbid, no terrifying and acute trauma from the Second World War, and without the consummation of a highly dysfunctional relationship towards the end of the novel.
December 2nd, 2021 at 7:55 AM ^
i was hoping at least one person would get the reference. i will say that our play so far would normally be enough to generate 'acute trauma', but we're all so full of football-elation that it almost doesn't matter. i watched a bit of the end of the game with some interest, but without the slightest bit of angst. well timed, given that our hoops season looks to be a rocky road ahead.
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:35 AM ^
me too.
is this board sometimes...not great? yes. but i guarantee you, RCMB ain't making - and getting - sophie's choice references.
December 2nd, 2021 at 6:52 AM ^
Howard needs to buy the whole football team and staff dinner. Imagine the fanbase after watching his team play if they didn’t have the football success to distract from whatever they are doing on the court.
December 2nd, 2021 at 7:02 AM ^
Jeez. Hadn’t thought of that. You’re right. We’d all be here with our pitchforks calling for a clean house in both programs.
December 2nd, 2021 at 6:53 AM ^
You are forgiven, fair trade!
December 2nd, 2021 at 7:08 AM ^
It’s part of the master plan. Juwan knew he couldn’t just roll a ball out on the court to replace the experience from last year’s team, so he worked on pumping up the Football team to enhance his own recruiting. Mission Accomplished!
December 2nd, 2021 at 7:26 AM ^
Great trade.
Much easier for Juwan to fix bball letting these players develop and hiring some new assistants if need, especially given how he's recruiting. There's no OSU football comparable (Duke, Gonzaga) in our conference, and even if there were, there's so much more parity in college basketball due to smaller rosters, (consequently how much 1 or 2 players can affect a team) and the nature of the NCAA tournament set up.
We're a football school. Last weekend was magical. That 1 game felt as good as any of the UM Final Four runs of the past decade, and frankly, would have even felt better than had we won a Bball national title.
December 2nd, 2021 at 7:56 AM ^
Love Juwan but he might want to lean on his assistants a little bit more right now as opposed to looking for replacements. Martelli has been through lows before. It wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine here for Saddi either. Eisley obviously has his job cut out for him to establish some good guard oaky somewhere.
December 2nd, 2021 at 9:35 AM ^
Yeah, plus how can anyone get excited about any game where dribbling is required? I mean, dribbling? We're expected to get past that at a very young age! And who wants to watch people dribbling balls while wearing shorts? Nope, no way ...
That's not a real sport! You can't even charge into anything or anybody ?!?
Football rules the pantheon!
Go Blue! We crushed the Buckeyes, let's do the same to the Hawkeyes!
Thanks, I feel better now. ;-)
December 2nd, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
We are _eye crushers!!
December 2nd, 2021 at 7:31 AM ^
Well at least we’re a football school now.
December 2nd, 2021 at 7:32 AM ^
That’s fine bud. I’ll take it. Still feels good. And the basketball team will figure it out. Too much talent going on there…
December 2nd, 2021 at 7:44 AM ^
I actually tried this, but I tried to sacrifice a world series AND a Buffalo Bills season. The Bills season looked shaky for a while but may have gotten back on track with that win over the Saints. The world series never had a chance to be sacrificed when Jorge Soler crushed that ball out of the park.
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:11 AM ^
Next time....
/jk
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:12 AM ^
its very early in the season, there is a shitload of talent on the team... they'll figure it out.
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:16 AM ^
I'll take that trade any day (sorry basketball guys)
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:20 AM ^
Whom should we blame for the team’s woes?
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:21 AM ^
Juwan has earned the benefit of the doubt in my book. Is this a bad start for him? Absolutely. But he knows that better than any of us.
Lots of growing pains to go through with a very young team trying to find its footing, but its a long season. If the team is continuing to get blown out in January and February then yes, there's a problem. But for now, just got to let these guys find their way.
Basketball has given Michigan a lottttttt of good memories over the last 10 years. It was bound to have some moments of returning to the mean.
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:23 AM ^
Woe to him who misspells this word. I think we all know the proper spelling:
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:27 AM ^
WHOA!!!!! Woe are us.
December 2nd, 2021 at 8:34 AM ^
I thought this was going to be a post by Juwan
