OT: Adam Schefter of ESPN says Urban Meyer assembling staff, meeting with Jaguars
Per Schefter, just in case Urban ends up taking the job in Jacksonville, he has been assembling a staff. Nothing set in stone yet. I think it would be interesting to see if his system will have the same level of success in the NFL.

Hopefully he doesn’t try to take Warriner
January 9th, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
I hadn't thought about that but how likely would that be? Warriner left Urban and Ohio State a long time ago and I believe they coached against each other when Warriner got here.
January 9th, 2021 at 2:36 PM ^
Didn't he fire Warinner ?
January 9th, 2021 at 5:04 PM ^
From the OC job. He was not good at it. You can be a great position coach and be a bad coordinator. It's a different skillset.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
I suspect that EW will be approached.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:28 PM ^
Hopefully he does try to take Harbaugh.
January 9th, 2021 at 2:12 PM ^
Get over it and get behind the staff. Continually undermining the coaches after the decision has been made helps nothing.
January 9th, 2021 at 2:16 PM ^
On the contrary, he's just another wanker ventilating anonymously on a message board. Having no effect on the coaches or coaching whatever. Just--from what I can see--probably not an alum, because I'm pretty sure alums weigh all of these things much more with an eye to little niceties like graduation rates, what coaches are paid, whether we want to take part in the arms race with OSU, Clemson, and AL in the first place. . . In fact, if people aren't graduates and really want M to lie, cheat, and steal with those schools, they may want to adopt another team. Brian's right--Michigan isn't catching up with them, or even trying to.
January 9th, 2021 at 4:49 PM ^
Probably not real fair to draw such a general distinction between alums/non-alums.
January 9th, 2021 at 6:50 PM ^
Please get over this alum versus non-alum argument. My son went to UM, I didn’t. So that negates any opinion that I or other non-alums have? You don’t have to agree, but jeez let it go.
January 9th, 2021 at 7:23 PM ^
You’re an idiot. Proud alum and I want the football team to win, end of discussion. Don’t care about moral victories like graduation rates and academic rankings. My degree will be worth the same if we win a national championship by cheating, maybe a little more.
January 10th, 2021 at 6:30 AM ^
Rather short-sighted perspective.
The academic ranking has a far greater effect upon the value of the degree than how a single sporting team performs. That said, a school can still have great success both academically and athletically without compromising their standards and ethos.
January 10th, 2021 at 1:26 PM ^
Hey "WANKER", please stop this alum vs. non-alum bullshit, extremely disrespectful to a large chunk of Michigan's loyal fanbase who are passionate and MORE of a fan than some alums are! Are you an alum, not that I give a damn!
BTW "WANKER", "just from what I can see" you must be FUCKING blind! I happen to be an alum, have 2 degrees from Michigan, taught for a while and even worked in administration at Michigan. All three kids graduated from Michigan and have had season football tickets since the late 70s and have had season volleyball tickets for almost 8 years. I want my school to excel in the classroom AND on the field and want to have good coaching. So piss off WANKER!
January 11th, 2021 at 6:18 PM ^
You raised three children and taught in a classroom setting, yet you get so agitated and profane in your posts?
I would have expected someone with that much life experience to be more... measured and calm... in their responses.
I hope you are using this blog to vent therapeutically.
January 11th, 2021 at 6:19 PM ^
Think "happy little trees"...
January 9th, 2021 at 1:28 PM ^
Hopefully his son will keep him here?
January 9th, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
It would be interesting to watch him lose without the best roster in the league every year
January 9th, 2021 at 1:00 PM ^
He will be no better than 4-12 next year.
Urban won’t be able to deal with that. He will start eating cold Domino’s pizza after losses again and it will all downhill from there.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:03 PM ^
Of course we all know that that can't be good for his health.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:54 PM ^
You mean the ones that a flare up once he starts losing or gets caught doing shady stuff, but seem to go away when he starts interviewing? Those health problems?
January 9th, 2021 at 1:45 PM ^
Papa Johns doesnt dliver to Jax?
January 9th, 2021 at 2:17 PM ^
Yes, but he'll be crying all the way to the bank.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
As much as we all want him to lose, this isn’t going to be a given.
The factor that will decide this will be is Trevor Lawrence going to transition to the NFL like Mahomes, Wilson, Murrary, Watson, etc. If Lawrence does, then Meyer is gonna look like a genius. If not, he’s Saban part 2.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:06 PM ^
Lawrence better hope he's half as good or better as Josh Allen or Herbert, those are 2 other 6'6" athletic guys getting it done with really bright futures for at least a decade.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:16 PM ^
You might be more accurate with those comparisons (coach’s son, gritty, etc.), but my overall point still stands. If he gets a QB, watch out, if not... he’ll be back in college winning championships at USC soon enough.
... shit
January 9th, 2021 at 2:20 PM ^
There's also no proof that he will be a good NFL coach. His running QB centric college offense isn't exactly the way the NFL is going
January 9th, 2021 at 2:42 PM ^
Isn’t the way the NFL is going?!?! Have you been watching the NFL lately?!
January 9th, 2021 at 6:15 PM ^
Exactly!!
Here's a great question. Most think Lawrence is "generational" QB. Would Pope Urban consider trading that pick for the motherload and grab Fields?
January 9th, 2021 at 6:56 PM ^
January 10th, 2021 at 11:36 AM ^
Yep, same as Haskins. The problem is we weren't able to put pressure on either of them and they had ten seconds in the pocket each play. The NFL doesn't afford that luxury to anyone at any time.
January 9th, 2021 at 2:27 PM ^
Definitely a lot more parity in the NFL so would really find out how good of a coach he is when he doesn’t have a huge talent advantage most games
January 9th, 2021 at 1:48 PM ^
Would you like some grapes?
January 9th, 2021 at 1:00 PM ^
I hope he takes the job and raids OSU's staff for a bunch of guys.
January 9th, 2021 at 2:30 PM ^
I thought we all learned the lesson by now. Whenever OSU guys get poached or get injured, They just get replaced by guys were just as good, if not better.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:02 PM ^
Not thread worthy, sounds like Campbell interviewing with Jets though. For all us Campbell guys, hope this doesn’t happen. We need another year of him in Ames, IA.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:08 PM ^
Source?
January 9th, 2021 at 1:37 PM ^
Saw it too on both ESPN and CBS Sports websites.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:53 PM ^
Isn't this a good thing for us? If he's interviewing for NFL positions now, he would have been unlikely to stay with us for very long - particularly if he did well.
January 9th, 2021 at 2:05 PM ^
It's bad in general, because if Harbaugh is gone next year, we no longer have a top target
January 9th, 2021 at 2:11 PM ^
Unless he views Michigan as a dream job of his.
If his choices were between staying in Ames, IA and coaching the Jets, that’s an easier decision to make. Depending on how he personally feels about the Michigan job, choosing between Michigan and the Jets could be a harder choice and one where he prefers Michigan.
Some guys simply prefer college to the pros. And would prefer an upper echelon college job over a lower tier NFL job. It’s not out of the question that Campbell is one of those guys.
January 9th, 2021 at 2:42 PM ^
How does him interviewing for NFL positions now at Iowa State have any relevance to what he would do at Michigan? It's incredibly unlikely for a college coach at a blue blood to leave for the NFL. I'm not even sure it's ever happened other than Spurrier at Florida whos a fringe blue blood.
For all we know he could have been waiting on a call from UM and didnt even hear anything.
January 9th, 2021 at 4:41 PM ^
Pete Carroll says "Hi"
January 9th, 2021 at 5:44 PM ^
He said bye to USC just as the sheriff was about to arrive. In that regard he didn’t leave on his own terms
January 9th, 2021 at 5:56 PM ^
I was just about to post something similar. This crap of UM being a forgone failure at the top level has no data or basis to make those conclusions, just anecdotal skewed opinions. Let this play out, worst case is 50/50 but my opinion is Meyer has a decent chance of being a legit NFL coach.
January 10th, 2021 at 4:21 AM ^
Ah you're right. Damn I can't even enjoy the 3 game winning streak vs Ohio or the back to back to back national championships that Campbell wont win at Michigan because he'd for sure go to the NFL after even of he did. Being a Michigan fan is hard sometimes... can't even enjoy my fantasies.
January 9th, 2021 at 2:23 PM ^
The way everybody gets fixated on ONE coach. . . and acts as if they even know, among the hundreds of potential hires out there, that this or that guy is the one. . . then throws tantrums about not getting them. . . pfft. Low-lived internet hoohoo.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:03 PM ^
He will likely fail. Hopefully this helps Michigan via some coaches leaving Ohio st that cause an important recruit or two to go somewhere else. I bet he is back at college level by 2025 after sitting out 2-3 years after this fails.
January 9th, 2021 at 1:09 PM ^
Prop bet: who wins more games in 2021, Urban Meyer or Jim Harbaugh?
January 9th, 2021 at 1:49 PM ^
I feel very confident in Harbaugh on this prop.
Michigan’s floor is 6 wins next year. Jags ceiling is maybe 5 wins.
