Michigan Interviews Boston College Co-DC
Thought I would post this. First bit of news I've heard on the replacements for the defensive staff openings. The article, by Sam Webb, was just published on 247.

Nimble.

Another BC coordinator? No thanks. DB can’t even coach zone.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:02 PM ^
I doubt you even understand the difference. Just parroting stupid shit you hear from others.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:06 PM ^
Camponile is also the former head coach of Don Bosco from jersey. That’s been a good state for us
edit: nvm he was a coordinator at Don Bosco
January 10th, 2019 at 7:13 PM ^
I like how you don't need to scroll very far to find a stupid take and potentially a stupid person anymore. It make moderation so much easier.
January 10th, 2019 at 10:07 PM ^
Yep, plus check the join mgoblog dates. Ninety nine percent of the noobs are hot takers and Harbaugh haters!
January 10th, 2019 at 8:10 PM ^
There were times when we didn't have this level of pugnacious stupid here. I miss them.
January 10th, 2019 at 11:09 PM ^
You sir, hit the nail on the head. Couldn't agree more.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:26 AM ^
Back in the day, the WLA was pretty damn stupid.
January 10th, 2019 at 8:30 PM ^
I guarantee you don't know what Michigan played this year. Enjoy Bolivia.
January 10th, 2019 at 10:34 PM ^
Doesn’t know what Bolivia means
January 10th, 2019 at 5:44 PM ^
He would be an interesting pair with Chris Partridge. Campanile used to coach at Don Bosco.
January 10th, 2019 at 5:52 PM ^
Campanile's father was Partridge's HC at Paramus Catholic.
January 10th, 2019 at 5:54 PM ^
Agree, not only would he coach the same position as Partridge, but his recruiting footprint is the exact same as Partridge. Thats a lot of overlap. Seems like they would want someone to compliment but bring recruiting expertise in a different geographical region.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:05 PM ^
So a coach can only recruit the area he grew up in? I don’t see it as a big deal. UM needs younger guys on the staff who can relate to kids anyway.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:07 PM ^
Partridge has made inroads with other schools now. He's become an ace recruiter in Georgia. You could actually argue that Partridge doesn't have much of a factor in NJ since we haven't got anyone from there in the last 2 years. Campanile could get us back in that market if he were to come here.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:46 PM ^
I think you'd want Partridge to concentrate on Georgia. We're pulling a lot of players out of there and they have a ridiculous amount of talent. That's where I'd send my best recruiter.
Gattis also had success recruiting NJ and the DMV. He's supposed to be a dynamite recruiter so it will be interesting to see how he'll be used.
It seems odd to pursue another DB coach, but Campanile has been a TE/WR coach for as long as a DB coach and he played some LB. Either he or Partridge could move. If Partridge really is being groomed to be a DC, it's probably good for him to get experience with different position groups. Good coaches can coach different positions.
January 11th, 2019 at 8:35 AM ^
Now we need someone to recruit the DMZ. I hear that North Korean defectors are as good as the Samoans.
January 10th, 2019 at 7:16 PM ^
Actually Partridge's recruiting footprint always seemed to be all of Jersey EXCEPT the Catholic school powerhouses not named Paramus that routinely crank out 4 and 5 star players. Their coaches all hated him because he got Gary and Peppers to transfer to Paramus and made the school a national power for a few years as I recall.
January 10th, 2019 at 7:47 PM ^
How would he coach the same position as Partridge? Both have a history coaching linebackers and safeties. One would coach linebackers and one would coach safeties.
Theyre also not restricted to recruiting an area they grew up in... they can be assigned any area in the country and recruit there. They’re just extra effective in NJ because of their connections from coaching there. That doesn’t mean they’re not extremely effective everywhere else.
January 10th, 2019 at 8:54 PM ^
Partridge recruits Georgia and Florida more than he does New Jersey these days.
January 10th, 2019 at 5:46 PM ^
Someone show him Burton and Lurie Towers, which house 2 of the 23 grand carillons in the world. With a name like Campanile, he has to like bell towers. Perhaps alumnus Dr. Steven Ball, noted campanologist can help with a tour.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:19 PM ^
Debating whether I want to google whatever the fuck you're talking about. Have an upvote anyway.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:22 PM ^
Carillons?
Sounds like impermissible benefits Saban gives out.
January 10th, 2019 at 7:27 PM ^
A carillon is kind of like if you replaced the strings of a piano with giant metal bells. (A friend of mine used to play the carillon at Michigan.)
January 11th, 2019 at 12:53 PM ^
Anyone else here take a class in Burton? It's crazy loud and gets crazier the higher you are.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:30 PM ^
Grand carillons only impress zoologists.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:43 PM ^
I like this. His name literally means bell tower.
January 10th, 2019 at 5:46 PM ^
That's... not just a position coach, is it? BC still runs a pretty similar system to Brown, don't they? I can't imagine he'd come here for a demotion, and given that we already have Zordich and Brown, a demotion is basically what's on the table...
Unless someone is leaving. Then someone with experience running the defense Michigan already runs would be pretty attractive.
Wouldn't he?
January 10th, 2019 at 5:50 PM ^
I don't like what you're suggesting. I'm choosing to assume this guy will coach safeties and Partridge will go back to LB's. Maybe he would take a demotion if it also came with a raise.
January 10th, 2019 at 5:51 PM ^
I don't like it either. But it's hard not to think about this.
Granted, they haven't offered him the job. This might be an "if" situation, but I don't like that an "if" scenario is on the table.
January 11th, 2019 at 4:02 AM ^
You are overthinking this. it's only a [slight] demotion in title.
He will get paid more here as a position coach, he will have better resources, he will recruit better players, and allegedly Adazzio can be very difficult to work for.
Plus, Don is going to retire eventually, and so being on the staff makes sense long term as well.
January 10th, 2019 at 5:51 PM ^
Maybe as a co-DC or some other offset like defensive pass game coordinator (have 0 idea how they would name it) and insurance for when/if DB moves on for a HC job?
January 10th, 2019 at 6:12 PM ^
Insurance, yes. Co-D Coordinator, no way.
January 10th, 2019 at 7:09 PM ^
Maybe he'll be the "Zone" D coordinator
January 10th, 2019 at 6:10 PM ^
Maybe he knows who to cover mesh and slant routes as well as how to use zone coverage on 3rd and long.
January 10th, 2019 at 8:33 PM ^
Oh good. Another person who likely doesn't know what they're looking at.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:33 PM ^
Oh, I love Clue! I'll guess. It was Zach Smith in the locker room with a strap-on!
January 10th, 2019 at 7:12 PM ^
I would guess Partridge would move back to LB's. Bush Sr. must be moving on if he is not in the mix for a secondary coach position?
January 10th, 2019 at 7:55 PM ^
How much of a “demotion” is it to go from co-coordinator at BC to Safeties coach at Michigan?
BC is a private school so they don’t have to release coach salary figures, but Partridge makes $500k/yr at Michigan. BC’s head coach makes $2.5 million per year so I have a hard time believing a co-DC makes much more (if at all more) than the $500k Partridge makes. Which would likely be similar to what Michigan would offer him.
January 10th, 2019 at 5:49 PM ^
Bitchin’!!!!
January 10th, 2019 at 5:51 PM ^
I'm guessing Chris to linebackers / viper and this guy to safety . Yes please !
January 10th, 2019 at 5:56 PM ^
That makes the most sense. Partridge is a hell of a coach. The safeties this year were significantly better so I'd be happy to have him as a LB/Viper again. I wonder if Bush Sr. is also getting interviewed for the safety coach position or if he needs more experience working someplace else first
January 10th, 2019 at 6:11 PM ^
From "not anticipating any staff changes" after the bowl to this. It has been a crazy offseason already.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:14 PM ^
Says on Wiki that he is BC’s DB coach.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:23 PM ^
Not a former Michigan player, DON'T Want!
S/
January 10th, 2019 at 7:29 PM ^
Yeah, Cato June clearly deserves the job.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:24 PM ^
Based on information I have read so far. He has done a great job with secondary with much less talent than Michigan has. Very promising young coach.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:49 PM ^
Well, just so long as Rutgers doesn’t come and poach him to run their defense after a year.
January 11th, 2019 at 6:38 AM ^
Do you think one of our coaches would really go to our biggest rival? Doubtful.
