ABC didn’t let us see the pick 6 so fuck them!
Besides that the defense was great until MD went to their diamond formation.
October 7th, 2018 at 7:09 AM ^
ABC could have easily just ran a ticker with the news flash.
October 7th, 2018 at 10:10 AM ^
That was just the worst. Not only did I miss the pick-6, but instead of enjoying the game I had to be reminded of...that. I never thought I’d say this but I actually hope all our games are on Fox from now on.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:30 PM ^
If Dwumfours injury is bad were in trouble. DL Depth isnt nearly as deep as we'd like. Unless we move Rashan inside which I think would be the best move, It'll be a very thin line.
October 6th, 2018 at 5:01 PM ^
Marshall, Kemp, Mone will be fine. Solomon is supposed to be back soon.
And don't get your hopes up on Dwumfour. He almost certainly tore his Achilles.
October 6th, 2018 at 5:04 PM ^
In the 2019 recruiting class please tell me we are recruiting 48498229 DTs. I really think disruptive DTs win you championships.
Moar DTs!
October 6th, 2018 at 5:13 PM ^
I think we are only recruiting 48498228 DT's.
October 6th, 2018 at 5:17 PM ^
NOOOOOOOO
October 7th, 2018 at 12:45 AM ^
Sorry to break the bad news.
October 6th, 2018 at 6:13 PM ^
Right; one of those 48,498,229 DT recruits has academic issues, so he's no longer being recruited. It's down to 48,498,228.
October 7th, 2018 at 12:48 AM ^
I thought they were just confident in the 48498228, so they dropped the last on due to limitations on class size.
October 6th, 2018 at 5:09 PM ^
Sucks for Dwumfour.
But the depth is not bueno. They're all fine players, but with Dwumfour out, It'll probably me Solomon-Marshall with Kemp and Mone as the backups. But it doesn't leave a ton of options in case shit hits the fan. I'm not saying they'll be bad, I'm just worried about another potential injury.
October 6th, 2018 at 5:20 PM ^
I honestly don't think there is much drop off between Dwumfour to Marshall and Kemp. Having Solomon back will also be helpful
October 6th, 2018 at 11:37 PM ^
Big dropoff in pass rush.
October 7th, 2018 at 3:31 AM ^
Our depth is seriously lack in if you are one of the starting DT's . Not that I know you all that we'll, but I am sure I would've heard of Fatguytouchdown on the 2 deep before now . Literally out of the blue to come in and start.
October 6th, 2018 at 5:09 PM ^
Watching Gary the last two seasons I have never got the feeling he would be a good interior lineman. Especially one now who appears to be harboring a shoulder injury. Rashon is his best on his feet and using his quickness. He is not a hole plugger.
October 6th, 2018 at 5:21 PM ^
I agree. It would be malpractice anyways
That's not his game and you'll just reinjure him from constant pounding. Make him situational against wiscy as Uche and paye are showing well. Ramp him upto OSU then unleash.
October 6th, 2018 at 6:26 PM ^
I wouldn't call Mo Hurst a hole plugger. Gary would be able to utilize his quickness at a 3 Tech a lot better than as an edge rusher. He just doesn't have a refined skillset as an edge rusher yet, and is much more of an athlete than a pass rusher. I'm not saying he's a bad player by any means, but I think he'd be significantly better as a 3Tech
October 6th, 2018 at 10:04 PM ^
I’ve wondered that too. If Gary develops more techniques he could be like Aaron Donald. They’re almost the same size, although Gary is a bit taller.
October 7th, 2018 at 10:04 AM ^
Dude, sorry. Aaron Donald is listed at 6'0". Gary is five inches taller and is built very differently.
October 7th, 2018 at 1:42 AM ^
This conceit I'm seeing in comments that somehow Gary is playing out of position is hilarious. And by hilarious I mean, completely without merit. You're saying that Jim Harbaugh, Don Brown, and Greg Mattison, guys who have decades of experience and (particularly in the case of Mattison) have conclusively proven their ability to identify and develop DL talent, are somehow misusing a first round draft prospect? One that, while not the dominant force we hoped for this season, has still performed with excellence throughout his time here?
That's insane. But it's popping up in this thread with people talking like it's obvious.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:30 PM ^
Please tell me Kemp is ok. And that dwumfour wilo be ok - just when he was becoming dangerous. Where is Solomon and what's his return timetable ? Ugh. Wtf injuries.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:43 PM ^
Uneducated guesses but:
I doubt Dwumfour's okay. Getting carted off is never a good sign.
Kemp looked like it was just a cramp or gassed out.
Solomon has been projected to return next weet or the week after.
Once again, obviously no inside knowledge.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:45 PM ^
Dwumfour's was strange because on the replay it didn't look that bad, but he still got the cart. Hope it's not an achilles injury.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
Non-contact injuries are often nasty. I'm fearing bad news there.
October 6th, 2018 at 10:58 PM ^
Kemp was rolled into by Donovan Jeter. He fell into his right leg and Kemp went down very awkwardly as he was being pushed over his right side. It looked pretty bad.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:09 PM ^
...? The entire time Kemp was on the field after being hurt he was standing on his own weight and walked fine. If anything he was favoring his arm.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:21 PM ^
Hmm. He got rolled on hard by Jeter. It looked like a classic ankle or knee. I just went back and rewatched the play a few more times. The leg still looks awkward but he may have caught his hand/arm on Jeter when he tried to brace himself going down. Either way, hopefully he and Dwumfour are both back soon if not next week.
October 7th, 2018 at 1:38 AM ^
I probably have to rewatch it, but if I'm remembering the correct injury it looked like Kemp got rolled a bit, not too seriously. One of those ankle tweaks that hurts like crazy for five minutes and you walk off.
I hope so. Kemp seems better at run D than Dwumfour, he's more important in the next two weeks. But just plain depth is going to be huge--Wisconsin is not generally a tempo team, so you can sub guys, but their OL will wear our DL out and we need a good rotation.
It's time for Mone and Marshall to play the games of their career.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:44 PM ^
Kemp looked like they were checking out his arm, doubt it's anything that will keep him out next week.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:50 PM ^
Thank goodness. So we have who exactly now?
Lo Marshall
Mone
Kemp
Solomon (hopefully back against wiscy)
Dwumfour (injured)
...
Am I missing any one ? What sucks is dwumfour was beginning beast it up!
October 6th, 2018 at 4:57 PM ^
I saw Jeter out there today, and I imagine he'll continue to get some snaps.
October 6th, 2018 at 5:06 PM ^
Very nice. I feel like if you have some potential (let's say 3.5 star etc) then mattison can make you a beast. If you are a DT ...commit to M!
October 6th, 2018 at 9:49 PM ^
shouldn't jeter be fully back by now? last year Mattison was raving about him.... and why do we seem to have a ton of DE and sparse DT
October 6th, 2018 at 5:06 PM ^
Wisconsin should definitely be a Mone type of game so really we just need Kemp and Marshall to be 100%.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:03 PM ^
I don't know if Kemp will miss time, but it was definitely his right leg they were concerned about.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:30 PM ^
Interior of the DL is thin and banged up just in time to play Wisconsin..
October 6th, 2018 at 5:50 PM ^
Maybe, but they just shutdown one of the top rushing teams.
DL are more needed for pass rush. I am more worried about that for MSU.
October 7th, 2018 at 12:40 AM ^
Have you seen Mone? He is anything but thin.
October 7th, 2018 at 11:27 AM ^
What is up with Johnson? It is strange that he has not been able to get on the field even in mop up duty.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:31 PM ^
DL depth really being tested. Dwumfour looks out for the year, hopefully Kemp/Gary can come back healthy soon. Other than that great job by the defense keeping their assignments.
How does ABC not even bother providing a legit replay of the pick6? SMH
October 6th, 2018 at 5:04 PM ^
They did show a legit replay lol...
They showed the entire replay after it happened.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:31 PM ^
D line depth is getting scary thin.
A majority of their yards and points came in junk time after the D checked out mentally.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:34 PM ^
Excellent. Until they dialed back the intensity in garbage time.
But hard to do any better than they did through the first 50 minutes of the game.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:34 PM ^
Yeah, injuries is the story here.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:36 PM ^
Chase is Chase. Great pick 6 by Brandon Watson. Injuries on D line suck. Hope we get some guys back on D line next week.
October 6th, 2018 at 5:40 PM ^
Winovich had statistically his worst game in a long time, 2 tackles and no TFLs, but that doesn’t tell the story, he was still holding the point of attack and drawing double teams all game. Was a big part of the win.
Hes going to see more double teams with Gary out.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:37 PM ^
Lights out until garbage time when they lost some intensity. Against a dirty team like that, I don't blame the D if they just wanted to get the game over with at that point.
October 6th, 2018 at 4:39 PM ^
rampant. dominant. fun to watch
October 6th, 2018 at 4:42 PM ^
Brandon Watston's INT was cool BC he defended to perfection the sort of rub routes that have been a problem in prior games...
So, a cool pick 6 that also will make opposing OCs pause a bit before thinking M is weak at defending that play.
