Gary's health - anyone know?
October 1st, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
As a complete non-insider, it appears to be a chronic shoulder injury that needs time to heal but won't get significantly worse by playing through it. I think taking Maryland off would be wise because we will need him for the ground game of Wisconsin and MSU's goofy running QB. We get a bye week after that so he can get additional rest then.

Having had one myself, it wouldn't surprise me if it's a torn labrum. It's an injury that can be quite painful at times, but it's also one that doesn't get worse. Usually, once the body warms up, it's less bothersome, but you can easily tweak it (pushing open large glass doors always got me). Only way to correct it is via a simple surgery. However, it's a rather lengthy recovery due to it being a shoulder. Anti-inflammatories and painkillers make the pain more manageable.

I think a 2nd or 3rd degree AC joint injury is more likely based on how he holds it and the type of brace he was wearing.
October 1st, 2018 at 8:12 PM ^
I don’t think that’s possible.
I had a 2nd degree AC joint sprain and it was so bad I couldn’t lift my right arm high enough to even wash my hair and I didn’t have enough strength without extreme pain to even close a car door.

Brian has been lamenting about Gary not starting with his speed rush and then going to a power rush. I've been wondering if he is shying away from that forceful contact with arms fully extended because of the injury. If it's limiting his pass rush moves it would go a long way to explaining why he's been somewhat underwhelming this year.

Give the big man a rest this week if it will help.
October 2nd, 2018 at 11:30 AM ^
IF it is a torn labrum, rest will do nothing for it. And that's why I think it "could" be a labrum because he is still playing. Obviously, we wont know until draft time, but if we aren't in the CFB and it is indeed that injury, I suspect Gary will get surgery immediately after the season and skip the bowl game. It's a 3-6 month recovery time.

I’m not so sure I would look past Maryland so quickly. Let’s hope we pull away and he can get some rest but think we need all hands on deck to start game
October 1st, 2018 at 8:10 PM ^
It's better to rest Gary, so long as the rest makes an actual difference, for the more important games ahead of us. Plus, our depth on the D-line has looked good.
on that note, is Hutchinson redshirting or did he get banged up as the reason we didn't see him sat? I missed any previous discussions on him.

The “important” games won’t really be important if we lose to Maryland
October 2nd, 2018 at 1:18 AM ^
kinda missed the point, nor did you answer the question
October 2nd, 2018 at 3:56 AM ^
FFS they aren't going to lose to Maryland at home with or without Gary. Step away from the ledge.
I am critical of Harbaugh at times but there are some people here incapable of seeing the difference between Harbaugh struggles and Hoke struggles.

Unsure about Gary but can confirm Metellus is wearing a wrist brace on campus today, he is unsure of his status for this weekend.
October 1st, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure Metellus was back on the field after he got taken off. Gary as well, although he was removed again. No knowledge here but it seems like both might miss Maryland as a precaution but should be back against Wisconsin. If we get Evans/Solomon back for that too we'll be as close to healthy as we have been all year.
October 1st, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
Metellus did in fact come back after half time.
October 1st, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
I was shocked Metellus came back. That looked like a broken hand/wrist for sure. Glad it's not that bad.

His injury wasn't on the tackle impact. He got stepped on / cleated by a teammate (I think Ross).
October 1st, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
Wonder if he has a chip on his shoulder....
October 1st, 2018 at 2:46 PM ^
*Martellus I believe you mean.

JMart.

I have all the details of the injury but I will not reveal them for free.
October 1st, 2018 at 2:08 PM ^
He has a bad case of Human Shoulder so we're building him one out of metal. It should be ready by Wisconsin.

The Winter Shoulder

I would pay so much money to see this movie.
October 1st, 2018 at 5:48 PM ^
I feel like his arm is already that powerful, just not as durable
October 1st, 2018 at 7:59 PM ^
Thank you for this. Have all my +1s
October 1st, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
Just get the arm from Bucky, the Winter Soldier.
October 2nd, 2018 at 7:28 AM ^
You have a metal arm?
October 1st, 2018 at 2:10 PM ^
"I know we should rest him vs. Maryland, but love watching him play."
OK, let's play him and risk more injury just because you love watching him.

I think you always need a Snickers

You really need to get laid or something. You are consistently negative about damn near everything. Eeeyore.

Your comment was a close second.

Truly have no idea how this dude has positive points.

They're going to amputate. Everything.
Think Monty Python.

Merely a flesh wound.
October 1st, 2018 at 3:34 PM ^
Tis but a scratch!
October 1st, 2018 at 2:14 PM ^
He's been nursing his shoulder all season. No one's said anything official and they won't. He'll probably keep playing as long as he's able and/or needed. I hope they give him a rest because we will need a lot more against Wiscy than against Maryland.
October 1st, 2018 at 2:20 PM ^
My advice is for him to stop running full speed into chase winovich, who is coming full speed from the other direction.
October 1st, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
Check counter-strike.
October 1st, 2018 at 2:25 PM ^
He’s fine. Probably. Or maybe not
October 1st, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
Looks legit
October 1st, 2018 at 6:23 PM ^
Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Rashan pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
October 1st, 2018 at 10:35 PM ^
Thank you, Simone.

I can confirm that...
