Disagree, because I honestly…

Disagree, because I honestly don’t see why a decent WR with NFL ambitions would choose to play in Michigan’s offense. Any incoming WR lately is probably someone who chose Michigan more than they chose Michigan football. I love us (we won a natty), but the passing scheme is a constant disappointment that probably undermines our running game more than it helps.

A relevant cool story bro:

Having attended Christian schools for most of my early years, I now find great hilarity in the portrayal of Washington and other such figures in my history classes. We learned almost nothing about his blunders, but a lot about how he and his men endured at Valley Forge because he was a praying man who trusted God to see him through his mission. We also never learned about the Ottoman empire having any sort of role in World War I. What a time.

Last year’s LB class always…

Last year’s LB class always seemed odd to me. Its well-known that the “Ravens-style defense” relies on having LBers who are basically super athletic HSPs who grew too big to play safety. The last class was full of LINEBACKERS. B1G Ten in the 90s-style linebackers. Never envisioned these guys becoming stars here.

McGregor is a tough nut to crack. PFF wasn’t much of a fan even though it always felt like he was making plays. Probably has a Jekyl and Hyde deal with him and we just miss it viewing him through our Maize and Blue lens.

Feel so strongly about this…

Feel so strongly about this one. Sometimes you’re just ready to move to the next thing, but I think his return would’ve been massively beneficial for all involved.

Of this group, Trente is the standout imo. I badly wanted to see him return and takeover at RG and as a team captain. I wholeheartedly believe he’s a 3rd-round talent who simply lacked for the reps to show it. I’d bet on him to make a 53-man roster this fall.

Praise Jesus. Rooting for Samaha, but he’s clearly still a year away.

His ball skills are pretty meh, but he’ll be one of one in Michigan’s WR corps in a way that basically guarantees him reps.

That’d be ideal 😫

With the Penix pick, I think…

With the Penix pick, I think we’re officially at the point where the post-draft narrative will be that JJ slid.

There isn’t a downside to…

There isn’t a downside to paying the players per se. There’s a downside to the current feet dragging on the matter. No one objects to paying grad students to teach in place of faculty, but everyone objects to paying the cash cows whose blood sport funds cushy salaries for the athletics C-suite along with all the country club sports.

Less about basketball on…

Less about basketball on grass. More so bc landing a SuperBowl is the path of least resistance for making everyone whole after building a new stadium.

Very true. I read somewhere…

Very true. I read somewhere that the Kansas City playoff game this past year resulted in a decent number of frostbite-related amputations.

Mentioned above, but both…

Mentioned above, but both the Cleveland and Denver ownership groups have begun socializing the idea of building new domes to replace their current headquarters.

Yeah I might’ve exaggerated…

Yeah I might’ve exaggerated the number of outdoor teams remaining, though many of their stadiums are past the 20 years mark. I honestly wouldn’t be shocked to see most of them building new arenas over the next decade. That’s more my point..

The Broncos, for instance, have recently been surveying season ticket holders about where to build a new stadium..

EDIT: The Browns’ owners also just went public last month, saying they’re torn over a $1 billion renovation vs. building a new dome. It seems a little silly to downplay the trajectory.

My own view - I personally…

My own view - I personally enjoy outdoor NFL games much more than domed games - both in-person and watching on TV. And ofc, I much prefer college to NFL football (mainly bc of the energy of the crowds).

RE: recruiting, I’d wonder if B1G football gains a nostalgia edge because of the exposure to real elements (rainy day games in the south honestly suck in comparison to cold and/or snowy games in the Midwest).

Withholding judgment on MSU…

Withholding judgment on MSU out-transfers. Their culture was horrible - almost as if Tucker embraced all the worst aspects of Dantonio’s crab-in-barrel ideology. And as shown with Mike himself, that culture can’t sustain success. So I’m somewhat inclined to believe that many of these are additions by subtraction.

Speaking of strength, has…

Speaking of strength, has Dusty hired a new S&C coach yet? I was kinda hoping that Howard’s departure would open the door for Sanderson’s return.

Pretty much all of the tea…

Pretty much all of the tea leaves are saying it’s Priebe at LG, so I think those of us who were pining for a clean transition for El-Hadi are gonna have to let it go.

I’m indifferent to the WR depth situation. We underutilize the position so much by design that I honestly don’t see the harm tasking those blocking assignments to our duo of 2nd year TEs. They both really showed something yesterday.

And besides, we’ve got Loveland, Morris, Morgan, and Edwards as options heading into a season in which I highly doubt we can give the starting QBs (whomever it is) more than two reads. JJ spoiled us.

To be completely fair to…

To be completely fair to Sherrone, Harbaugh is the man who careened the program towards the cliff. He pretty much put all his eggs in the basket of these last two teams, with the 2022 class being the last hurrah. You could’ve fielded one more CFP favorite this year by retaining the early departees who DID leave, but it’s been pretty clear for a while that we weren’t set up to thrive beyond the upcoming season.

Orji needs another year of…

Orji needs another year of technical refinement. There’s definitely proof of concept for a future first rounder, but we’ll break him (like Gardner) if we force him in as the FT starter this year.

Best case scenario, we’ll be able to use the portal to reinforce strengths (DL, DB, and maybe even OL) and then win with one of the Davis’ at QB.

I don’t see why people are…

I don’t see why people are so convinced that this is the plan on offense. We’ve seen a great many recent Michigan offenses be run heavy w/o much reliance on the threat of QB runs. At this point, Warren seems to be the best option for replicating last year’s offense, which was about as run heavy as a true contender can possibly be.

That’s true, but I did come…

That’s true, but I did come away from today’s “game” convinced that the rest of the pieces are there. We could plausibly go 11-1/12-0 IF we get the QB situation settled.

Orji’s limp looked like a…

Orji’s limp looked like a hip thing imo.

But the larger point is that today’s performance has shown that he isn’t ready to be a B1G starting QB. While he appears to have the offense down and a good feel for making pre-snap reads, he needs to take another year or two to get his feet right. He’s the best of what we have, but what we have unfortunately won’t be good enough to do better than 9-3.

Been trying to find the right words..

Denegal’s wind up is so long that I consistently find myself thinking “damn. That ball still isn’t out yet?”

The recent growth spurt…

The recent growth spurt subplot makes him an extremely interesting prospect. I don’t recall his brother having one, but we all know that Scottie grew 7 inches during his time in college. Even if he doesn’t get too much taller, it’s easy to imagine him developing into a burlier (and more athletic/explosive) player than is typical at his position.

Amen!

Amen!

See “Harbaughffense 2023” in…

See “Harbaughffense 2023” in the diaries section. Our approach to passing was broken, and the Barham pick was largely a function of out-of-rhythm JJ throwing the ball straight to him. His PFF coverage scores were otherwise worrisome.

And Iirc, this was the same game where we ran the ball 12 straight plays before calling a pass play out of an empty set.

It seems the Barham hype has…

It seems the Barham hype has been entirely blitz-flavored thus far. As I recall there being some concern about his coverage capabilities, I’m wondering (growing worried?) about him in that regard.

I hope to never see the PSU…

I hope to never see the PSU game plan ever again. The “they couldn’t stop it” narrative is such a stark contrast to what was happening that day. Barnhart seriously earned a PFF 0.0 in pass pro.

Footwork is hard to call…

Footwork is hard to call because it’s so easy to relapse under pressure. Combine that with the recent history of our passing game being overly dependent on long-developing stuff, and it sounds like an Orji tragedy waiting to happen.

As frightening as it may sound, Jadyn Davis is probably the QB who gets us closest to our ceiling this year.

The punishment is stunning…

The punishment is stunning in comparison to similar cases at other schools.

At a certain point, you have…

At a certain point, you have to accept that no rideshare cost is too high to avoid drinking and driving. Sadly, I didn’t reach that conclusion until my 30s (though thankfully, I never had a mishap while driving intoxicated).

What I REALLY want to know…

What I REALLY want to know is whether it’s true/who was involved with smoking weed before The Horror (aka the App State upset).

I have a sneaky suspicion…

I have a sneaky suspicion that Michigan doesn’t even need to match top offers to win the recruitment, and they really just need to offer SOMETHING. Wasn’t that the deal with Deone Walker?

Nailed it on Bronny. So many…

Nailed it on Bronny. So many guys his age screw themselves by snubbing legitimate opportunities for development. With three years in college, he could become a viable NBA role player type. Instead he seems poised to rush into a 3-year NBA career full of DNPs.

This. They were definitely…

This. They were definitely the best team we played, and we couldn’t help that Georgia lost before the CFP (though we could - and did - beat the team that beat them).

Yeah I’d agree that women’s…

Yeah I’d agree that women’s cbb will need to create another star in order to keep the gravy train rolling. Juju Watkins is probably the best player left behind after the draft, but I doubt she receives the same media treatment as Clark.

Idk what this means, and…

Idk what this means, and probably never will. I’m gonna just lol and eat my downvotes bc of all the things coming Clark’s way, I feel confident saying that racism is the least of it. But ofc, we live in an age where some groups’ aspiration for liberty has become the source of other groups’ oppression… or so they say.

Caitlin Clark… had to deal with… racism? A smattering of it?!

WTF is racism anymore?

Apparently, Rob’s (Rick’s) son is being groomed to be WWE’s next big thing.

Increasingly optimistic…

Increasingly optimistic about Wink as DC. Part of that is about the talent being so good that it seems almost impossible to ruin things. But I also suspect Wink will weaponize the hell out of our DE’s and LB’s. If Esposito lives up to his billing as an elite developer of talent, I could for sure see this year’s defense being even more dominant than last years.

Damnit we need a QB!

Still kinda miffed by the lack of traction between Michigan and Dante Moore. Combining him with Orji as a change of pace would’ve been scary.
