Are we getting 9+ more drafted

Submitted by ralphgoblue on April 27th, 2024 at 1:27 AM

After having 7 players drafted in rounds 1-3 , do you still believe we will have another 9+ players drafted , to set the All Time  draft record ?  Current record is 15 (Georgia).   Here’s our list of possible selections for rounds 4-7     (We need to get 9 of 14 drafted )
Trevor Keegan, Cornelius Johnson , AJ Barner, Braiden McGregror, Jaylen Harrell,Trente Jones ,Michael Barrett,,Drake Nugent ,LaDarius Henderson ,Josh Wallace,Karsen Barnhart,German Green Cam Goode and James Turner

Definitely.  I think the first 10 you listed will get drafted at the very least.  Many, if not all of them will get picked up as UDFAs.  Michigan is too good of an NFL development factory and the GMs take note. Let's Go Blue!

He’s projected to go undrafted. PFF scores are cool and all but the NFL really doesn’t care about any of that. They want measurables, they want elite traits, they want high ceilings.

Wallace was a solid corner for us this season, but he turns 24 in July and he really doesn’t have any of those elite traits  or measurables that NFL teams desire. Doesn’t mean he won’t get drafted but I see more pointing to him not getting drafted than getting drafted.

Some teams want to win now. A mature, 24 year old corner who has matched up well against OSU, Bama, and Washington WRs has to be at least a little enticing. I definitely can see Detroit bringing him in as a UDFA as insurance or bench depth.

A 24 year old corner implies that he’s at or near the end of his development. Matching up well with a couple college receivers isn’t the same as matching up well with NFL guys, especially considering Will Johnson took the #1 receiver every game.

Matching up well with #2 receivers a couple times a year isn’t remotely the same as defending NFL receivers every week. We’re REALLY overvaluing how college play translates to the NFL. There’s a reason the NFL doesn’t draft based on production.

I said earlier in a thread they'll probably top out at 14 but I think it could happen if teams like Nugent and Barnhart.  It seems like linemen with UM's pedigree are getting some credit, and later in the draft getting a guy who's refined and can play multiple positions has value.

It's frustrating, though understandable that some of these guys left. I feel like Jones and McGregor could have really improved their position.

I also think it's crazy how few of our lineman are the athletes at the next level, despite their dominance in college. Two Penn State guys went before any of ours. And yet psu on offense is a clown show

Obviously getting drafted matters to the players and their families.

But for the rest of us, if Michigan breaks the draft record, that's great.

And if not, also great: it would mean Michigan won the national championship thanks to teamwork.

The Jets currently have the last pick (257) in the draft. The Chargers have the 253rd pick. If Michigan has had 15 or 16 players drafted when the Chargers pick at 253, then it wouldn’t surprise me if Harbaugh chose a Michigan man at 253.

If Michigan has had fewer than 15 players drafted when the Chargers get the 253rd pick, then Harbaugh might want to trade with the Jets to get the last pick and then choose a Michigan man if only to have Michigan get Mr. Irrelevant.

No, I don't think we reach 15. We'll get to a very impressive 12 or so and I'd bet on a contributor or 2 from the undrafted ones as well. Only a few in the list I'm confident will not be drafted but day 3 is a crapshoot.

7 Wolverines have been picked thus far.

Per ESPN's best available, AJ Barner is fairly certain to be picked at #46 (there are 157 picks remainìng).

Then there are 7 from 102 through 142.

#171 Nugent, #185 Henderson, and #189 Jones also have a chance.

I think Jones is underrated at 189 but Wallace is overrated at 116.

In any event, the 6th and 7th rounds are going to be The Michigan Show.  About every sixth pick will be a Wolverine.

I would think so. It took all of these guys mentioned above to make a 15-0 National Title Championship team. The NFL along with scouting reports should take notice. I am a little disappointed that only 7 have been taken in the first three rounds of the draft. Maybe it's my Maize and Blue glasses. I am noticing that the OSU number of players drafted are lower. The 'Bama and Georgia player numbers are looking good but that another thread.

One last thought; Jim and John Harbaugh should snatch up many of these remaining Wolverines, depending on their needs. Jim has taken only one so far-come'on Jim.

Michigan is one ahead of schedule with Zinter being taken in the 3rd instead of the 4th round.

The 6th and 7th rounds will be The Michigan Show, with a Wolverine taken with every ~sixth pick.

My guess is that Michigan will fall just short of the record, as teams are sure to make some picks outside of ESPN's best 157 available, pushing some of the Wolverines in the projected best 157 down to UDFAs. But if one or two of those sub-157 picks are Wolverines, then it may happen.

"I am noticing that the OSU number of players drafted are lower."

That's an illusion. tO$U had like 8 top 100 guys they brought back with their strong NIL program. They're going all in this year to beat Michiga and win the national title. Ironically if Michigan barely beats the draft record it will be due to Ohio State's NIL program.

I thought the projection of 15 or more as draftees was unrealistic. But hey, you never know. I think Barner, Harrell, Jones, Nugent, Henderson and McGregor could be taken today with the others getting free agent calls. We'll see. It's all based on team need and projected player potential which can never be fully appreciated or evaluated.
