Here's an interesting tidbit: only two MAC guys got drafted, none after the 2nd round.

Michigan has never had a Mr. Irrevelant have they?

Edit: Irrelevant

I hate to be that guy, but…

I hate to be that guy, but the school in Baltimore where Biff and Blake came from is St. Frances with an "e".

According to 247 the only…

According to 247 the only uncommitted transfer QB as of right now is Jeff Sims, and, not no but hell no.

Personally I think the status quo will be fine. Here's the decision tree: 1. Find Edwards out of the backfield, 2. find Loveland in the flat, 3. See if Tyler Morris or Semaj torched his DB, 4. If none of the above run for it. If you can't get at least one warm body in the QB room to manage that it's on the coaches not the players.

Or is that Hope College?

Or is that Hope College?

My niece surprised everyone…

My niece surprised everyone by choosing St. John's College in Annapolis, i.e. the "Great Books" college. She inspired me (the heaviest book I ever read was "Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems") to see if I could keep up with her, at least through her freshman year. A little Iliad, anyone? I admit I bailed on Homer, but I got kind of hooked into helping her work out how much of Plato's Socratic dialogues was actually Socrates and how much was Plato blowing his own horn. My college buddies would spit out their beer if they could see me now.

This makes me think about…

This makes me think about the story Lloyd would tell about speaking with an assistant coach at USC or UCLA that he was trying to hire away. "Hi, [?], Lloyd Carr here. It's 6:30 and I'm at home sitting down to dinner, I left football practice at 6:20. I'd like for you to consider joining my staff next season."

My tingly sensation comes…

My tingly sensation comes from re-watching Blake Corum. Jeez, what a ball player. His like will not come around again for some time.

You make a good point about…

You make a good point about teachers. I predicted (you can ask my wife) that Rich Rod would flame out quickly at UM, because he was just a football coach, whereas Lloyd was a *college* football coach. The difference was just too great, and you can easily argue that UM is the kind of place where learning is as important as winning. After Rich Rod, there was a coach who was just plain in over his head, then UM found the perfect "teacher" of football players. Let's hope that establishment lasts; the foundation looks pretty secure from here.

Greg Roman for OC. Long-term ties to Harbaugh, and he went to the same high school as me.

Regular MGoBoard readers…

Regular MGoBoard readers seem to be in agreement that in general, the quality of sports reporting has gone off a cliff – except here. Maybe it took a defining moment like Jan 8 to open my eyes to it, but this little corner of the Internet is home to excellent writing the likes of which I used to get when my Sports Illustrated came in the mail every week. Brian (and Seth and Alex etc. etc.) are head and shoulders above the rest – seriously, who else even comes close?

EDIT: and the photography is the equal of SI's back in the day!

Drevno, Durkin, Fisch,…

Drevno, Durkin, Fisch, Zordich, Frey, Hamilton, Brown, Mattison, Partridge, Partridge, Warinner, Washington, Gattis, McDaniels, Nua, Campanile, Jean-Mary, Shoop ... I think Jim had been trying "wholesale coaching staff changes" since the day he got here. Three years ago, somebody flipped a switch and he started hiring a lot better, particularly Sherrone Moore (there is absolutely nothing in his CV that would make you think he would be Jim's heir apparent).

Before I even read this – thanks Alex. Deadline work suits you.

I think this game is going…

I think this game is going to look like both 2021 and 2022 OSU. A talented, dangerous passing attack with some holes elsewhere that Michigan can exploit. They're going to score, but so is Michigan. I will caution that in those two games combined, Michigan had one turnover and 7/50 penalties. Have to do no worse than that.

Confidence is high.

Damon Payne, who got trucked…

Damon Payne, who got trucked by Kalel Mullings in the Rose Bowl, may be the best D1 player to come out of Belleville.

1. Trying to see if we can get the broiler on the gas oven hot enough to do a proper "wood-fired" pizza. So far, eeehh. Drinking Sassetti Brunello di Montalcino 2015. Love me some Sangiovese.

2. I'm going with 42-27, because I think the "Georgia" plays the guys have supposedly been working on all season will work as well as the "Ohio State" plays did in 2021.

3. Just me and Mrs. Gate 3 and the dog who loves nothing more than to snuggle with her.

I love how Army has the player's name in stencil on the right breast, like their fatigues. A not-so-subtle reminder that they're doing something bigger than football. (IIRC Air Force and Navy did the same in the past.)

My hope is that there are…

My hope is that there are leaders in this bunch like Mike Sainristil, whose value to the team far exceeds his stars. (And if there's a 340-pounder who can run down a RB from behind, so much the better.)

UM went after him hard, but…

UM went after him hard, but ended up "another hat on the table". So they had to "settle" for Kenneth Grant. Personally, I like the way that one worked out.

This is my concern, dude:…

This is my concern, dude: Alabama has a long history of playing well with 3 weeks prep time. Michigan is 0-2 in the same space.

Remember Walter Nolen?…

Remember Walter Nolen? Nyckoles Harbor? How, when they committed elsewhere there was some bitching here along the lines of "How can we stop losing guys like him?" So instead UM "settles" for lower-rated guys like Rod Moore and Kenneth Grant.

It looks to me like Michigan bases its recruiting on "wantit": how hot does the fire burn in this kid? That might not show up in game film (especially if the guy is clear and away the best player on the field) or recruiting ratings, but I bet that's one of the first things that Jim looks for when he's in the kid's living room.

(I can picture him walking out of the Corum living room a few years back thinking, "we GOTTA nail this guy.")

I don't care if it's the '85…

I don't care if it's the '85 Bears, the Brady Patriots, and the '27 Yankees. Beat Iowa, then beat whoever lines up on the other side of the ball.
