The first response was "commie".  Is that not politics?

Seconded.  There is no need…

Seconded.  There is no need to be mean to the CS reps.  Nice but firm is the way to go.

No NCAA championship…

No NCAA championship tournaments would seem to be the biggest loss.  Of course FBS football does not have an NCAA championship tournament, so it would only be for other sports.

I wonder if other states…

I wonder if other states will follow.  This new law is slated to kick in this summer, so it is not like the first state NIL bills that were delayed for several years and were meant to give the NCAA some time to update rules.  This is a shot across the bow at the NCAA.

University of Virginia helped push for this legislation, so they could be making a splash this summer.

Once the universities can funnel TV revenue more or less directly to players as NIL, the need for soliciting small donations for NIL collectives should wane.

It would be great to see the Michigan legislature follow the Virginia example.  Any legislators read this blog?

$487,286

I has crossed my mind that they could make a good dent in a NIL fund with the expected profits from the book, but the right answer is whatever our MGoOverlords want to do with it (big dividend/bonus for Brian and Seth, rainy day fund, make it rain, new car, MGoRV for covering road games, etc.)

Ordered mine.  With $90k+ in under an hour, they might hit $100k within an hour of Brian posting on blog.

It is private signing, so you drop off at store by April 6.  They take to JJ (or so they say) and then you get a call when item is back and signed.

No opportunity to see JJ.

I immediately thought of St. John's as counterexample to taking years to turn around a roster (ironically they were one of Michigan's few basketball wins this season).  I seem to remember from the game against them that Pitino rolled in something like 11 transfers/new players (i.e. basically nobody from previous season).

It is Saturday.  The legal/HR people that would get involved in firing him or most other actions are  usually off over the weekend.

I would expect something more definitive early in the week - possible even Monday morning.

Turns it out was today.

The newest attempt was hand timed.  I think the recruiting profiles would give it 5 out of 5 fakes

I dropped DirecTv about 5…

I dropped DirecTv about 5 years ago.  I subscribe to YouTube TV from beginning of football season (end of August/early September) and suspend after college basketball ends.  I find the YTTV DVR to be better than what we had with DirecTV since they seem to (mostly) adjust recording times to ensure you get all the game you want (even if it goes to 3x OT, etc. or has long weather delay).  Also the unlimited storage makes it easy to just record EVERY college/NFL game and pick up whichever one seems interesting at any time.

Being able to drop YTTV during summer when we would not be watching any live TV (still have antenna) saves hundreds of dollars every year vs. what we paid for DirecTV and the monthly charge is less too (although YTTV has gone up a lot and dropped channels since I originally signed up).

For non-sports entertainment we have some combination of Netflix (mostly included with T Mobile but that is changing now), MAX (i.e. HBO - included with AT&T internet), AppleTV, Disney (stopped subscription waiting for new content kids would like).

Am I missing something or…

Am I missing something or could they just include commercials in 720p / 1080p in between the 4k coverage?  Even if someone has to run it through video software to upscale to 4k prior to running that does not seem like a technological issue.

I am still using 10+ year old 1080p TV's so what do I know...

I am not a lawyer but I have…

I am not a lawyer but I have worked with some lawyers for work in relation to business cases (mostly related to unpaid invoices).

I do not think the lawyer is able to bill for work needed to fix mistakes of the lawyer.  You could file a complaint with state bar or licensing organization and likely get lawyer sanctioned (probably well short of disbarment but I have no context here).

You are probably on the hook for last bill.  You could argue that it was her incompetence/unprofessionalism that necessitated switch and might win that argument.

Since you seem not inclined to just pay it and be done, I would suggest sending her a letter saying you dispute invoice (and likely the one from lawyer's mistake) because the only reason you had to switch was her incompetence/unprofessionalism.   Also mention that you will be filing a complaint with state bar.  If she agrees to waive invoice(s) you can let it drop there.

If she digs in on invoice, it is probably better to just pay it and avoid a court case.  File complaint with state, and post bad reviews everywhere you can think of posting them (including naming the lawyer here).

The reason to get the ball…

The reason to get the ball first is for the scenario where both teams score the same in their first possessions (whether 3, 6, 7, or 8 points), the team that got ball first would get the ball again with the opportunity to win the game with any score.  If you go second, you have to win in first possession or you give other team chance to score winner without opportunity to respond once both teams have had ball once.  It is a different setup than college OT even though there are similarities.

I heard KC would have gone for 2 to win if SF had scored 7 with first possession to avoid scenario where SF gets balls after both teams scored 7 with opportunity to end game with any score.

After they announced the…

After they announced the rules for OT, I was not expecting to see a clock at all (besides the play clock) like in college OT.  Then they started playing OT and there was a clock counting down like a regular quarter.

I think the only thing that would have happened if it ran down was they would take a short break (i.e. COMMERCIALS) and restart the clock to 15 minutes (this would repeat as needed until a team met conditions to end the game)

1500 is more of a round…

1500 is more of a round number than 1600 even though it breaks pattern from shorter events.

Main international track distances:

100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 (breaking previous pattern), 5000, 10,000

I used to work at a place…

I used to work at a place where there was a guy not as big as Warde.  He would sit in a conference room chair and within 10-20 minutes the lift mechanism would fail and the chair would sink to the lowest position.  I remember him breaking the mechanism on at least two chairs.

It is only posted for seven…

It is only posted for seven days, so they probably already have someone in mind to hire for this position, and are just posting online to meet University/legal requirements.

I was thinking the same…

I was thinking the same thing.  There was a reason some of these guys got fired at previous head coaching roles and were left to take analyst positions at Alabama.

Sark and Kiffin have had much more success post-Alabama than they ever did prior to working with Saban (Sark getting sober may be basis for much of his turnaround).

What does a lot of money as…

What does a lot of money as soon as possible really mean for him?  Has he given much thought to this?

I studied engineering in undergrad at Michigan and after several years as a poor college student (lots of ramen, etc.), I was ready to get out and make some money. I got a below average offer at the time and was still able to buy most of the stuff I wanted (new car, apartment, etc.) without making a million bucks.

If he has been poor/working class family with a single mom, he might find that being single guy without family to support and making $50-60k (the average new graduate salaries per some quick Googling) would be a welcome financial reprieve from what he has experienced growing up - especially if he was not living in a high cost of living area for that new job.

I do not see that he would necessarily need to pursue a Wall Street/investment banking career to meet his financial requirements, but I obviously do not know him at all (and a lot of those positions are going to the smartest kids or those with the best connections).

He should definitely try to take some varying classes at Michigan and see what he might like.  He is someone that might have been better served by the old b-school model where he took intro classes for two years and applied for b-school for final two years.  He should still give some thought to choosing major/field that he would be able to stay in for a long time instead of getting burned out/hating it after just a few years (or less).

And absolutely avoid choosing a major just because there are a bunch of articles about whatever the hot major this year is (that will change by the time he finishes and likely have too many grads in a few years).

Exactly.  People here make…

Exactly.  People here make it sound like Jim wants all these NFL interview processes to roll on forever.

I am sure Jim hates teams like the Charges and Falcons dragging out process with large numbers of candidates pulled into second (and third?) rounds as much as anybody here that has applied for new job and had interview process drag on for a month or more.

In previous seasons, a few…

In previous seasons, a few times each season I will see the headline for post-game article before I got a chance to watch recorded game later that day during West Coast evening hours.  Even when Michigan lost, I would be disappointed that the I could not watch recording without knowing score.

This season, every time I unintentionally find out score from main page, I am thankful to have saved myself from watching another poor showing from this team.  And the last time I did watch a game was when I found out they beat Ohio State.

Not that many years ago, I used to look forward to basketball season possibly even more than football season.

Celebrating a NATIONAL…

Celebrating a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!  And three straight wins over tOSU.  Or the only program with 1000+ wins.  Take your pick.  Enjoy the moment.

Start thinking about next season sometime in August or a few minutes before kickoff of first game.

And the NCAA finally seems…

And the NCAA finally seems to be investigating teams using NIL inducements - see Florida and Florida State, so deciding to start now when the NCAA already seems to have it out for Michigan is not a good idea.

As long as you can bring in players that will develop into stars by their junior/senior season, NIL funds are better used getting them to come back than chasing unproven recruits (see Michigan - NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!)

Belichick also had second…

Belichick also had second interview with the team, and it sounds like Vrabel is getting second interview too.  Harbaugh getting a second interview does not seem to be an 'only invite the guy we want back and kick the tires one more time before offering him' kind of interview.

This could drag on for a while.  Is Philly confirmed to retain their coach?  Any other playoff coaches that could be on hot seat?  Or is that another possible opening that has not even started interview?

Come on.  This isn't just…

Come on.  This isn't just any team that lost in the semi-finals.  Alabama is a team that won SIX national championships over the past fifteen years.  How far back would Michigan have to go to accumulate six national championships?

Not saying Michigan should copy everything they do, but dismissing them out of hand because on of one game this season does not make sense.

In  addition to losing…

In  addition to losing amateur status (or whatever the NCAA calls it now) issues raised by others, I thought eligibility is also limited based on when you start college - five years from when you start college to play four years or something like that.  There are some exceptions for medical redshirts, COVID year, etc.

Jordan Kovacs used his redshirt when he was enrolled in Michigan as freshman and not even part of football team and had four years to use up his eligibility.

Sam has mentioned this as…

Sam has mentioned this as sticking point on Thursday MGoBlog roundtable for a while now.

I do not see how the school can commit to maintain Harbaugh as coach if the NCAA goes crazy and gives him long suspension (especially if suspension extends beyond just game days but all team activities).

From Harbaugh's perspective, the school has already suspended him for the cheeseburger incident (i.e. the university believes Harbaugh committed some NCAA violation).  Unless there are some limitations on the for-cause clause, Michigan would be able to (arguably) end his contract at any time in the future based on the cheeseburger violation.  That makes any buyout provisions meaningless.

And that is how you end up at an impasse.

Harbaugh still has some years left on his current contract, and nothing he is going to sign would effectively limit his ability to leave for NFL job, so I no longer see new contract as accomplishing what most people want the new contract to accomplish.

BTN preempted start of Notre…

BTN preempted start of Notre Dame @ tOSU Hockey game to show celebration, so any buckeyes that tuned in for beginning of hockey game got to see MICHIGAN celebrate National Championship.

As others have mentioned. …

As others have mentioned.  Grading seems really stringent here.  I would give correct/mostly correct to these:

Michigan vs Bowling Green

  • JJ McCarthy completes 79% of his passes, sending the Michigan internet into throes of recriminations.
    1. Wrong (62% completion rate)

While Brian missed on the completion rate, the 'sending the Michigan internet into throes of recriminations' does seem eerily spot on even if it was more warranted than a 79% completion game.

  • Corum de-rusts and looks like Corum en route to 126 yards.

              Wrong (Corum had 101 Yards)

Corum went 101 yards on 12 carries for 8.4 ypc with 54 long and 2 TD, so I would say de-rusts and looks like Corum is correct

Michigan vs Ohio State

  1. Donovan Edwards finally has a Donovan Edwards game, doing damage in both phases.
    1. Wrong (31 Rush yards, 34 passing yards, 5 receiving yards

What is more of a Donovan Edwards game than throwing a big pass on trick play?

I was thinking about this…

I was thinking about this leading up to the game.  While I would be disappointed without National Championship Muppets, I think we need something more too.

I think something like Brian/Seth/David/Alex singing Hail to the Victors or We are the Champions or both.
