True Blue Grit

The low point for me was sitting in the stadium during the RR years during a Northwestern game in freeezing rain, desperately hoping Michigan could score just one touchdown to win it.  It never happened.  Instead, me, my wife, and the guy who sits next to me ( probably one of  Michigan's biggest fans) sat there in misery amongst the empty stands slowly getting hypothermia.  Neither of us wanted to admit defeat.

Now, everything is good again.  And last night, he sent me a picture from Houston with a big smile on his face.

Jim Harbaugh came here 9 years ago. We had hopes and dream of a National Championship and he delivered. Think of the dark times this year alone and how the players promised to come back after the TCU loss and they pulled it off.

This was a convincing win tonight.

Was just texting my college friends about the time we sat in freezing rain in 2008, watching michigan drop yet another game to a mediocre Northwestern. Been a long strange trip, but we made it. Go Blue.

I remember the exhilaration of '97. But I also remember the heartbreaks. The times, they have been tough. But Jim came home, and even sputtered some, until the glory starting in 2021.

2021. New coaches. New attitude. What are you doing to beat Ohio State today???

2022. The emergence of JJ, Blake and the rest.

2023. They stayed. And they are Champions. National Champions.

That 2021 Michigan - Ohio State game was an inflection game of historical proportions, like the 1969 Michigan - Ohio State game.  The legend only grows.

Maybe not the biggest win this century (hard to top the last two), but certainly the most important.

I was a student from 07-11 so I had the dark time thrust upon me. This makes it all okay though! Go Blue! Can’t wait to wear Michigan gear all week around Seattle.

Rich Rod years, final Hoke year, Covid season …all while the Buckeyes took the dominant spot in the Big Ten. It’s been tough.

The last 3 years are almost surreal and now it culminates in these final two games. Thank you to all the players and staff for working so hard and building a tight, winning culture.

It’s Michigan vs Nobody. Only 1 team left. National Champs!

This a weird post, but I’m sitting here listening to Polaris and the music from The Adventures of Pete and Pete (if you’re of a certain age you get it) and for some reason it just feels great in this particular situation.
