As the father of daughter who runs track in high school, this is really cool to me.

Basically Hail has a donation platform that can have separate campaigns for each Varsity sport. Poking around, the targets are different for each sport likely based on conversations with Coach's and the number of Athletes.

This allows donors to support speific sports without having a model that "dilutes" donor dollars that are directed for Football.

I read in another interview that the President said he believes many olympic sports have specific donors that would like to give directly to the athletes but didn't know how. Now they at least have an option. Great stuff!

This sounds like Michigan may have thought too far outside the box, which means somebody in SEC land is emailing the NCAA to complain.

I think it's great that they have created an avenue to support specific non-revenue sports as well.  That is going to be very helpful to kids that have a similar athletic commitment as revenue sports, but often are only on partial or no scholarship.

I like this model.

But it does spur a question I have. How many NIL collectives are there now for UM? And when, or does it become to many and in a way that it actually dilutes the money coming in?

Or is more collectives the merrier even if it is for the same sport?

When it comes to Football there are two. Valiant, which does commercial deals for the players and launches campaigns like the one more year fund.

And Hail which provides a base stipend that all scholarship Athletes can earn. Together they complete the one two punch of having a base that gets talent to commit without a guarantee they'll see the field in year 1 and a commercial entity that makes sure top guys are taken care of once they pop off.

Naming all of this* NIL is crazy. I still think as a fanbase that is a little more based in reality we should call all of this "pay to play" or "pay to stay". Only the athletic department ($100 million surplus) and maybe a few business could honestly pay these athletes for their NIL.

By "all of this" I mean all the fanbases and boosters shelling out money.

If I remember correctly, reading about Hail! Impact when it kicked off, I believe they said once funding was reached for Football, they would expand to all sports. If so, they must've hit their mark quick to be expanding this fast, which is great.
