Congratulations to Zach Gentry for being picked in the 5th round #141 overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I'm very glad for Gentry and hope he proves the naysayers wrong.

Like I have said here before, Gentry could have refused and/or complained and/or transferred out when he was asked to transition to a TE rather than stay with his dream of being a QB.  Instead, he did what would most help the Team, the Team, the Team and worked hard at becoming a very good tight end.

I'll be rooting very hard for continued success with the Steelers, Mr. Gentry!

Congrats to Mr. Gentry. I would be surprised he makes an NFL roster. Maybe a practice squad but he is going to really have to work hard on the physicality of his game meaning fighting for balls.

I think he would have benefited from another year, but given the fact that he's got a daughter and there's always the chance of injury, I can understand why he left (although I thought it was lame to not play in the bowl game.)

There are RBs rated lower than him who are getting picked, so it seems odd that he's not getting selected.

*Edit: brain fart on my part to forget Karan was out of eligibility. Go ahead and neg me, I deserve it.

*And now the Lions continue their 50-year tradition of ignoring Michigan players by taking a RB from Maryland who's ranked lower than Karan Higdon. Ultimately that's probably better for Karan, even if he has to go the FA route.

* 4 more lower-rated RBs have been taken instead of Higdon, including Mike Weber just now. Does Higdon have an injury that's depressing his value?

* So now Miami selected Chandler Cox from Auburn, whose rating is "No Grade—Likely needs time in developmental league."

I'm not saying Higdon was an early-round pick, but when when at least 5 lower-rated guys than him are already off the board and he's still waiting, something hinky is going on.

congrats to zentry, so good at finding seams and breaking for extra yards.

question for people who know more about the NFL: i know there are flex tight ends, but is there a position for him to mostly focus on catching and route-running in the pros? just seems like physically he's a tall-ass wide receiver in the NFL, one who could give nightmares to shorter players in the second and third levels of a defense. i pretty much only watch college ball and don't really know if this is realistic, as he still had to block a fair amount in college.

either way, good luck to him!

Congrats to Zach ... but where are all the posters saying he should stay in school, he won’t get drafted, he’s too slow (from the “Zach Gentry runs a 4.92 forty” thread. I’m looking for you MGroOld, UM fan from Sydney, I like Burgers etc. I hope he has a nice four to five year career [at least) makes millions and truly represents Michigan well in football and in life.

I thought he might not get drafted. Instead he got drafted in the 5th round, and has to earn his way on to a team. Your victory lap is way premature. Let's see if he makes a roster.

His choice to leave early isn't looking all that much more wise based on his draft.

This board can be really pathetic.  What’s wrong with speaking the truth?  Zach Gentry was not a good TE at Michigan.  Add in a poor combine and frankly I’m curious as to what the Steelers saw in him.
