Where will UM be in AP poll today?

Submitted by greymarch on October 10th, 2021 at 1:11 AM

Where will UM be in the AP poll this afternoon?

My guess?  UM will move up one spot, to #8 in the AP poll.  UM will pass PSU, but UM will not pass Alabama.  The sports-writers of America think too much of the NFL-level talent on Alabama's team to drop them more than three or four spots.

UM deserves to be ranked above Alabama though.  Bama lost to an unranked team.  Michigan is undefeated.

I doubt Alabama moves below 4. They just blew out a top 15 team, after beating a different top 15 team on the road. Let's not forget that they emasculated Miami when they were in the top 15. I won't be surprised to see a top four of UGA, Iowa, OU, Bama. I'll be pleasantly surprised if UC is ranked above Bama.

Cincinnati came into this week ranked 5th. They’re undefeated with a win against a top-15 team. There’s no way they won’t be ranked 3rd. Undefeated Oklahoma will be behind them. OSU, whose loss to a top-10 team was weeks ago and has been playing very well as of late, will be behind them. Texas A&M lost the last two weeks to Arkansas and Mississippi State. This was the definition of a “bad loss.” There’s no way Alabama will be any higher than 6th.

Alabama's scary good, I'm not going to deny that.  But you giving them credit for beating Miami when they were ranked (which they should have never been ranked that high to begin win) is like giving Iowa credit for beating up on Indiana.  Let's not go nuts.  Alabama gets standing ovations just for entering the room.  Don't drool over them for pounding a team who is a play away from being winless.

I'm not sure Alabama should fall below Mi and Mi St. really, I don't think they should fall out of the top 4.

1. Georgia

2. Iowa**

3. Cincinnati

4. Alabama

5. Oklahoma

6. Kentucky

7. Ohio St

8. Penn St

9. Michigan

10. Oregon

11. Okla St

12. Mich St

To me Kentucky is the wild card. I don't know how good they are. They're AT Georgia next week. The top game next week. They could shock Georgia, or not, I don't know.

** they don't belong that high, but that's where they'll be

Our Monday AP poll rank is irrelevant to me, I am far more concerned with the UFR score Haskins gets for the hurdle run - to me, a +4 should be on the table for that play.

2. Iowa

3. Cincinnati

4. Oklahoma

5. Alabama

6. Penn State

7. Ohio State

8. Oregon

9. Michigan

10. Michigan State

If Alabama is not now out of the playoff hunt entirely unless and until they beat Georgia in the SEC title game, they should just expand the playoff this season. Alabama no matter what plus 3 other teams is not a good playoff system.

Don’t care. No offense btw. Keep winning until OSU and everything will sort itself out. Watching tonight it’s obvious we aren’t Bama ready.

Rankings don’t matter right now. They just look cool next to your team name when playing.  I love this teams attitude. On to the next one. I am going to predict they win the bye week.

As much as they shouldn't look at the rankings this way, comparing the top 8 teams and who would beat who, Bama is not falling to no. 5.  Michigan is probably not moving at all and Cinci will still be on the outside of the top 4.  My guess is:

1. Georgia. 2. Iowa. 3. Bama. 4. Oklahoma. 5. Osu. 6. Cincinnati. 7. PSU. 8. UM. 9. Oregon. 10. Sparty.

Maybe Michigan gets ahead of PSU, but losing at Iowa by 3 won't push PSU down too much. Bama is still the second best team in the country despite the loss and OSU is starting to flex their muscles, even though it's against crappy teams.

Your question is interesting, my quick check says yes, it was the final 2007 rankings -- M #18, Ala unranked -- Saban's first year and Carr's last (and one of the craziest seasons ever, nationally)

You mentioned 2016.  There was also October 2015 when Alabama dropped to as low as #13 early in the month after losing to a Hugh Freeze Ole Miss team, then Michigan ascended to #12 after blowing out previously undefeated Northwestern -- but by then Alabama had gotten back to #10.

PSU will probably drop to 9 or 10. Alabama will fall to no lower than #5.

Michigan will move up one spot to #8. MSU to #9 or #10.

Anybody who thinks Michigan will jump Alabama is not thinking clearly.

My guess:

1) Georgia

2) Iowa (!!!)

3) Cincinnati - you don’t have a choice at this point. For now, they have to be in the top four.

4) Oklahoma

5) OSU

6) Alabama

7) Oregon

8) Michigan - probably should jump Oregon but that OOC win on the road over OSU keeps them ahead for now.

Rough Guess: 1-Georgia, 2-Iowa, 3-Oklahoma, 4-Cincinnati, 5-Ohio State, 6-Penn State, 7-Alabama, 8-Michigan, 9-Michigan State, 10-Kentucky, 11-Oregon, 12-Oklahoma State, 13-Ole Miss, 14-Notre Dame, 15-Coastal Carolina, 16-Arkansas, 17-Wake Forest, 18-Auburn, 19-Florida, 20-BYU, 21-Arizona State, 22-Texas A & M, 23-Texas, 24-SMU, 25-San Diego State

Possible that voters will have Michigan and Michigan State separated by a narrow margin, but those who hate Michigan could give the Spartans a very slight edge because of their quarterback, running back and receivers.

I really doubt PSU loses a 3 point game on the road to a team ranked higher than them while their QB goes out with injury and drops below Michigan… not impossible I guess, but that seems pretty extreme by the voters.

This has always baffled me, but why would PSU drop in rankings?

They were number 4, they lost to number 3, BARELY, after their QB broke.

That's basically exactly what should have happened. They HAVE to play these games against each other, there WILL BE a winner and a loser.

I dont feel like a team should really drop in that situation unless you want to include the long term implications of losing your starting QB.

Pump the brakes. The only two teams we’ve beaten with an over-.500 record are Western and NIU. We’ve struggled with Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Rutgers. I’m not sure where we should be ranked, but I’m not convinced we’re even a top-15 team.
