What would you give for a National Title

Submitted by Bo Harbaugh on August 11th, 2023 at 8:45 PM

Now that UM has seemingly found its way out of the wilderness with back to back B1G titles and wins over OSU and this seemingly being Harbaugh's best and most complete team on paper, the hype train seems to be in full gear - With some even saying National Title or bust.

While these may be the expectations at schools like OSU, UGA, and Bama - it's been a long while since UM was amongst the elite and I can't lie - I'm feeling quite excited but also pensive about it.

Our last National Title was 1997 as we all know.  So my Friday question...what do you hold dear that you would give for a CFB Championship?

I'd give up both pinky toes - I figure I can learn to walk just fine without them.

I’ve been thinking about this season that way. Michigan won the last NC before the BCS, which was meant to “solve” a problem, but only made the sport far too focused on the NC, doing more damage than good. (My opinion, but I’m not alone.)

This is the last year of college football as we know it. Going to a 12 team playoff is a much bigger change than people are realizing. Lose The Game? Ah well, still room for us in the playoff. The gauntlet run is over after this year.

Couple that with bloated mega-conferences, and none of this is going to matter like it always did. I’m sure I will still watch, but I won’t care at the same level.

Michigan is poised for a special season. Let’s close this sport out on top.

I would gladly sacrifice the dignity of Michigan State’s fanbase but it seems that has already been done, so I will have to go with number #2 which coincidentally is synonymous with our cooler pooper brethren in Columbus and sacrifice their dignity instead, if there is any dignity left.

Well for the OSU game in 2021 I promised God not to ask for anything else, so I’m not taking any chances with my soul, but there’s nothing that I own that I wouldn’t give up for a national championship this year.

Just wait till Georgia gets caught in a room at a brothel with a dead prostitute. Georgia claims it can't remember anything; luckily, the brothel was owned by EMU. So we can 'fix' this situation to get Georgia off...for a price.

This is the oldest, grumpiest, get-off-my-lawn answer... but as much as I'd enjoy a national title, it's not something I'd "give up" anything to see.

If any year, it would be this year because I feel that future college football national championships will be so cheapened by the expanded playoffs, bloated conferences etc.

"I'd give anything to see..."-type statements are reserved for wins over OSU, B10 titles, etc. Back in 2021 and certainly last season, I'd likely have traded a month's salary or something for a win against the Buckeyes.

The national title? I'd be willing to go a few years with no hope of any of my favorite teams in other sports winning anything, but that's about all.

$10. $100. $1000.   Pure transactional entertainment and winning a national is unique to posterity.  Beating OSU Transformational, preferred along with many commenting.  GO BLUE and to this being a captivating, easily remembered, distinguished, famous, outstanding, acclaimed, eventful, significant, legendary, and notable year for all of us to enjoy!

Sorry folks, I was a Cubs fan before I was a Michigan man and fan, and I was at UofM during the '97 title run.

In 2016 I made a bargain, I would trade any and all future national/world championships from Michigan and all my Chicago sports teams just for that world series win.

If it never happens, you can blame me, I will take the heat.  2016 meant the world to me though.

Ya I did unfortunately.  I was in school at Michigan for '97, rushed the field with my friends after OSU, it was awesome.  By 2016 I had experienced a championship for almost all my teams, Michigan, the Hawks, the Bulls and the Bears (though I was pretty young for that one).  The Cubs were all I wanted, and I had been watching them as wee lad on WGN before any other sports.

Its funny that someone mentioned the spot.  After that I thought well, this was my bargain, this could be a lot of years of gut punches.

Hopefully I am wrong, and somehow my deal was null and void as I could really go for a Michigan title first and foremost, and Bears super bowl wouldn't be half bad either.

I would give up a Lions Superbowl LVIII win for a UM football  NC this season

I would likewise give up a Michigan NC this season if it the sacrifice got the Lions a SB LVIII win and game MVP to Hutchinson

shit, I already gave up a rare artifact in 1997.

Me and my dad Indy found undeniable evidence of alien colonization of earth while treking through the South American rain forest.  We could have used that micro laser plasma time accelerator to do some real good but instead traded it for a few timely Charles Woodson punt returns.

would you settle for the world's 3rd largest ruby set in a gold snake eye?

Just give me 11+ wins seasons going forward ,and ill be ok with not winning a NC . We could be Auburn (play for 2 NC in 10 years) and their program kinda sucks now .

I will never understand the mind-set of people saying "give me a NC and we could have 10 straight losing seasons ,after that" .  Give me good football for years and years ! Tennessee won a NC and had a losing record for the next 23 years ... id hate that .
