We Regret to Inform You - Your NCAA Bracket has Died

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on March 25th, 2023 at 10:44 AM

Mates,
I didn't watch hoops last night, only a little hockey, but of course I saw the scores.  First time ever no #1 seeds for the Elite 8/Final 4 as far as I know.  In our family and friends brackets a few of us have 1 of the final 4 teams still alive, but no ability to get to the finals or have a champion selection.  For all intensive porpoises our tournament is done tomorrow.

Remaining 'live' picks for us are Gonzaga, SDSU, K-St. and Texas to make it to the Final Four.  A handful of us have one each of those respective teams but, as mentioned, nothing after that.

What about you?  Do you have any teams alive?  Is your bracket on life support and the plug will get pulled later today?

Hat tip to anyone who has picked more than one of the remaining 8 teams.  Please share the good, the bad, and the ugly about your dearly departed bracket.

Have a great weekend.  About 1/2 way to the foot of snow promised to us up north today.  Love it. Live it.  Plow it.

while i certainly agree everyone is vulnerable, i don't think that speaks to the premise that the college game is somehow going down the tubes.  guys are bigger, faster, stronger.  teams are way more even so you can't simply camp out on any of a couple of teams and proclaim them the best.  and it's not like the overall college coaching has somehow gotten terrible in the last year, or even the last few years.

I picked k state to win it all in my office bracket.  I was up to third as of yesterday.   Not sure now, since my other three in my final four were Kansas,  Houston and Alabama

We had a funeral for my bracket 3/4 of the way through Day 1. We count most wins with the tie-breaker being points and second tie-breaker being the final score of the title game. I got slaughtered early and sort of checked-out.

But I have my champ in Texas remaining, so yay I guess?

I’m in a large pool (~100 entries) and prior to last night I was alone in 1st place and looking pretty good. The Houston loss and Texas win got me though. I have 3 of the elite 8 but only KSU advancing can get me any more points. Currently tied for 1st amid a sea of Texas and UConn picks. If they both lose I’ll be in a great spot, but I don’t see that happening. I could end up well out of the money in just a couple of games.

I've got K-State and Texas left but only KSU making the final four.

I'm rooting for them to win it all just because I love watching Nowell play so much.

But I have a hunch this may be Texas's year.

Went into the S16 with all my brackets in the 95th percentile on ESPN. And now, well…they are not that.

Still have a shot of winning some money if Texas or UConn wins it all, just not what I was hoping for.

But regardless, the madness has been fun to watch. MSU-KSU and Gonzaga-UCLA were all-timers, and I enjoyed seeing Alabama go down. Really looking forward to UConn-Gonzaga and (hopefully) UConn-Texas matchups. Good basketball is always a nice consolation prize.

Oooo, I am doing surprisingly well for no good reason whatsoever. Michigan’s season was grim and I have a toddler, so I didn’t follow college basketball this year and had no idea what I was doing. Good friends went to KSU and SDSU, and Gonzaga and Creighton are Jesuit which seemed like a decent reason to have them going through. I think I’ve won my bracket already!

My 1 and only bracket has Gonzaga over Bama with K-State and TX in Final Four.  I had a real shot of winning ~$7,000 for first place in my 1,000 bracket work pool, had Houston/Bama won yesterday.  Still can get 3 of 4 FF and finish high, but I believe my shot at #1 went down last night.  Having all 4 FF teams alive (with 2 through to the Elite 8) with 12 to go at the start of yesterday had me dreaming a bit of how I was going spend my unanticipated 'F around' windfall $.  Alas, not to be.  Only top 3 get paid and believe I may still have a shot at 2nd/3rd if K-State and Gonzaga win today, TX tomorrow, and Gonzaga cuts down the nets.

I can't believe it but last night everything went right for me and I'm now in 1st place. I have Texas in the finals, Gonzaga winning over UConn. I think one person will pass me if KState wins, but I can get them back with either of Gonzaga or Texas winning. After that I need Texas to not win the championship. The best part is my daughter took Gonzaga to win so if they win out I think we'll both end up in the money.

The BIG10 ended up with lower seeds because of Conference losses

Because in other conferences, there are ties?

I think it was just the opposite.  The Big Ten had a lot of mediocrity beyond Purdue - and that made Purdue look better than it was.  Heck, we were second in the league in efficiency (!) in conference play and we were hardly any great shakes.

Still have three final four teams alive. I picked Alabama to win it all. So many people did though, so I think I still have a chance to win my challenge.

My bracket was dead a week ago, but my Draft Kings account is thriving, I jumped on the underdog bandwagon quickly. I have FAU and Gonzaga today hoping water doesn't find it's level.

I had Purdue in the FF (I know their history, I just thought this would be their year to break precedents). My bracket has been dead for a long time. Dead, buried, and forgotten.

I'm in 22nd out of 25 right now and one of 3 people to pick the Zags to win.  If they win out I'll get 2nd place but I have no one else left in my bracket.

So I expect them to lose later today 🙃

I am usually horrible with brackets, but this year has been surprisingly good. Going into the E8 I still have 3 (Creighton, KSU, Texas) of my F4 teams alive. In 1st or 2nd for most of my bracket pools ... for now at least!

I had Kansas beating Kansas St in the championship. I completely spaced that Kansas won last year or else I wouldn’t have selected them. Really hard to go back to back. I got Miami, Texas, Kansas St, and Gonzaga all right. I’ve got Texas beating Miami and I had Kansas St beating ‘Bama.
