Waaay OT: Wifey gifts for Valentines Day

Submitted by Tampa 2 on
So i thought with a slow day this would be a good thing to discuss. Last year i bought my wife a vacation package to Berchtesgaden. What a grand place that was. I went with her luckily. I was a little afraid she would choose my boss haha. Looking for an idea for this year. My wife usually makes me a nice rack of lamb with some cheese fondue, that is my favorite dish and she hates making it so once a year she makes it. What is the best gift you have ever gotten / received? What are some good ideas for this year friends?

I hate Valentine's Day. It's a fake holiday that puts so many relationships to the test: did the guy get the woman the right present?? Ridiculous.

And as far as kids go, if they bring valentines to class, they have to bring one for everyone lest some 8 year old's life be ruined. I'm not kidding. It's really horrible when a kid gets left out of that. My solution: have the teacher give valentines to the kids. And the kids bring candy for everyone to share.

Didn't you say you were 18 in earlier post? If so, awful young to get married and afford to go to Europe.  Or am I confusing this with another one of your accounts.

Either way.  Divorce papers like me.  Problem--->Solution.

We don't do Valentine's Day usually, but this year we may do a nice dinner out to celebrate leaving Fort Wayne for Traverse City at the end of the month. Thank Christ

My penis. That's usually worked out pretty well in the past.

As far as my serious, non-chauvinistic response, I will probably end up picking up flowers from CostCo, finding a good bottle of wine, and grilling steak for the both of us. We don't go out to dinner a ton, especially not in the middle of the week. We don't really exchange Valentines gifts either. We just enjoy a nice dinner and a good bottle of wine together.

we always order in chinese and watch a movie on the couch after the kids are in bed. we get each other little gifts but nothing crazy. It's nice being married to a medium-maintenance woman

My wife and I both have February birthday's, I'm the 11th and she is the 17th so we're taking next week off. No plans, just sleep in, stay up late watching tv and eating whatever we want.

We'll be heading to our favorite place - Clawson Steak House for a Valentines day dinner!

I am not going to lie here - by the time I got to the end of this thread, I honestly had forgotten what the question was that the OP asked, and perhaps that as it should be. As for taking one's wife to the place when things like the Austrian Anschluss or an invasion of Russia were conceived and executed.....gee, how romantic.

Is the dumbest thing ever. If you do want to do something romantic, some grand gesture of how much you love her. Do it on a random day in the middle of nothing. It's unexpected and comes off as spontaneous. Don't let a silly calendar dictate romantic gestures.

Since I got my wife the backstage pass to the Justin Timberlake concert a couple of years ago, I haven't had to worry about what to get her for V-Day. JT has been a great sport and sends her two dozen red roses and a plane ticket to ski with him in Aspen every year on Feb 14.

However, she always remembers to leave me with a couple cans of Chef Boy-ar-dee Chili Mac and a case of Old Milwaukee Light before she heads to the airport.

I'm starting to think something's amiss, though. She got a call from the local spa reminding her about an appointment in South America (or something like that). Brazilians don't live in Colorado, as far as I know. Maybe they're going to a steak house for dinner.

Will get a vintage locket with pictures of her beloved late grandmother who passed last fall. She was like a mother to my wife, so she is still grieving the loss. Thoughtfulness of this gift should go a long way to making her happy and simultaneously winning my brownie points.

My suggestion: find something to give her that requires some thought into her likes and preferences. Something personal and meaningful goes a long way with my wife.
