Updated W/L Prediction Thread

Always good to get a win, this reminded me of the Wisconsin game in 2016, a few missed kicks a way from a comfortable win. However, being realistic, no way we beat Penn State in two weeks. Good news is, Notre Dame and maybe Penn State won’t be must wins. Penn State has to play at OSU, at Iowa, and at MSU. OSU still has to go to Wisconsin,  and currently are in a tight one with MSU. I have us 8-3(PSU and Notre Dame losses) going into the final week with a Winner take all game against OSU. This team doesn’t need to make the playoff just beat Ohio State.

Offense looks like dog shit, wrapped in a bag, placed on a porch and lit on fire.

Defense took strides today and played their asses off. Looked great and dominated the game. They won’t be able to completely dominate all the remaining games and at some point we’ll need to drive to win a game.

Unless the offense magically gets better and in rhythm there’s multiple losses coming.

My guess is that it was because people think it's just an attempt to start a thread to share the OPs opinion rather than use an existing thread.

Which is why I was very intentional about NOT giving my thoughts or opinion in my arrow up/down thread. Because I genuinely wanted to know what the board thought more than "look at me, this is what I think...what do you think?"

Whether right or wrong...that's how it comes off after a game. Carry on.

This feels like a statement made from one who doesn’t want to be let down again another year... It’s like you want to say, “their going to lose more, but I hope they win”... So glad you’re not on the team.

In all fairness, I watched the OSU/MSU game last night and MSU has been inconsistent all year, but they were going toe to toe with OSU until the end of the second quarter, then a couple big plays came in for OSU. My point is, MSU was in the game. They had a chance and so do we.  Never give up.

I say 7-5 still at this point.

Defense came alive, we'll see how well they can sustain that level of play..

Offense simply refuses to use their 3 NFL WR's with any kind of consistency. "Hey 52 yd pass to Nico, that was great! Welp, better not try that again and instead run Charbonnet up the gut for 2 yards over and over for a while."

Cool. I was never all over his nuts though. Last week just upped my prediction from 6 - 6 to 7 - 5, which the offense did exactly zero this week to change my mind. The weapons are there, but either Shea or the play-calling isn't there to realize the true potential of the players.

I'm not convinced our three WR are as good as the fanbase thinks they are. At some point they have to share in the blame for the lack of production. Shea has looked bad all season but it doesn't appear the WR are helping him at all. None of those three are explosive after the catch and none appear to be route artisans. We all refer to them as "NFL WRs" but I won't be surprised if 3-4 years from none of the three have a job in the NFL.

I'm beginning to come around to this line of thinking. Black in particular doesn't seem real interested in running precision routes. Nico seems to be the most polished of the three. DPJ is athletic but it appears none of them are the burners people thought.

They're big targets but man, either the route combos suck, or they're highly overrated.

What evidence is this based on?

Patterson not throwing the ball in their general direction?  DPJ not throwing it away out of bounds on a blown trick play?

Black dropped a pass he should have caught that was behind him.  This is the only incident I'm aware of in the game where the big 3 receivers didn't come through for Patterson, albeit I might have forgotten some other drop or clearly poor route.

In contrast, how many times have we seen these guys running wide open while Patterson throws to Bell in double coverage or bails out of a clean pocket to flush the play?  Way more often than I can find any fault with the receivers.

The interception on the throw to Black was 100% on Patterson and he had TE open underneath in the flat for almost certain first down yardage.

Yes, the receivers aren't producing as well as we wanted them to.  Clearly they're not good enough to inspire Patterson to throw the damn ball.

I've no idea how many of them will be pros in the next 3-4 years, but I'd give each of these 3 better odds than Patterson based on current play, skills and physical ability.

It's based on nothing other than wanting to be a contrarian and somehow seem superior to others. I went back and rewatched almost all of the offensive plays and all 3 WR's were open enough to easily put up over 300yds passing on Iowa, DESPITE somehow no other deep shots were called, but Shea simply can't/won't throw the ball to them.

This was actually my preseason prediction.

I figured they would make the change at halftime at PSU, and that would be that.

Believe it or not, I kind of feel bad for Patterson and Harbaugh. They could've brought the same offense back from last year and probably reached 10-3 again, maybe with a win vs OSU too.

But as somebody mentioned in a snowflakes thread earlier, if you're truly committed to Gattis's offense, you would actually be better served by having the guy who will be here next year running it now. The only thing that is going to cure what ails them is more reps.

Losses to msu, osu, and psu. ND being a night game might save us... otherwise 8-4 w real chance at 7-5.
