Best part of the team. If they win a title it’s because of the defense.

The We-fense!
September 9th, 2023 at 6:48 PM ^
Pass rush was there.
Not much else to report. D had no issues with tempo.
September 9th, 2023 at 6:48 PM ^
I really only have Brazilian soccer fan criticism: I want the second team to preserve shutouts.
I like sacks.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:51 PM ^
3rd and 4th string need more live reps to figure things out. Hopefully they'll get plenty of them over the next few weeks.
September 9th, 2023 at 6:49 PM ^
Coaches taking them out for we-scream after the game.
September 9th, 2023 at 6:53 PM ^
Dominating. The DL controls the line, the pass rush is there. LB play is vastly improved. The secondary, even with the injuries, seems fine. When the 1s come back, Michigan might be lights out at all three levels.
September 9th, 2023 at 6:54 PM ^
the 2nd team surely could have played better but by God it's a great luxury for this to be one of the worst complaints I have about the team this year. I like the trajectory we're on thus far.
September 9th, 2023 at 7:01 PM ^
Third team allowed the score. Second team was rotating in for most of the game.
September 9th, 2023 at 8:07 PM ^
That's a fair point. It was a misnomer on my part. I just meant that our first unit (1's and 2's) showed out. Too many years on this board where everyone is melting down losing(or in way too tight of a game than we should be) to inferior competition. I'm thankful this year that has yet to happen I suppose is what I meant to drive home.
September 9th, 2023 at 8:08 PM ^
Yeah. I see a lot of people don't seem to understand this. Michigan rotates it's 2s in throughout the game when it matters especially on defense. So when the game is out of hand, it's the 3s and 4s who are playing.
September 9th, 2023 at 8:55 PM ^
Exactly this. The crew that allowed the TD were the 3 and 4 deep guys.
September 9th, 2023 at 6:55 PM ^
Kenneth Grant and Derrick Moore have been a pleasant surprise.
It's worth noting - OSU's JT Tuimoloa stats for the year: 4.5 tackles, .5 TFL.
September 9th, 2023 at 8:56 PM ^
We are going to remember Kenneth Grant very fondly when he has moved on to the NFL.
September 9th, 2023 at 8:57 PM ^
I don't think we're getting a 4th year out of Grant. NFL is gonna want him so bad the second he's eligible
September 9th, 2023 at 9:06 PM ^
Yes because we are in his orbit
September 9th, 2023 at 6:56 PM ^
The starters were excellent and stifled UNLV. Too bad the back ups couldn't close out the game. I'll take 5 QB sacks anytime.
September 9th, 2023 at 6:59 PM ^
If Moore, Paige, and Johnson all come back regularly and healthy this defense will be nasty.
September 9th, 2023 at 7:00 PM ^
TJ Guy got a lot of fun time before garbage time and I hope he turns the corner by November and earns snaps to add depth. Hill at CB is another that come November or least bowl season practices is earning snaps with the ones.
September 9th, 2023 at 7:59 PM ^
Fun time is run time ! Looks like Guy passed Josiah Stewart
September 9th, 2023 at 7:00 PM ^
All three DT starters are a serious problem for the opponent.
September 9th, 2023 at 8:58 PM ^
Best trio of DT's I've ever seen in my 2 decades of Michigan fandom
September 9th, 2023 at 9:52 PM ^
Benny's not bad also, and Cam Goode provides even more depth.
September 9th, 2023 at 9:59 PM ^
Word is astronomers lost track of Pluto about the same time as Goode hit the field.
September 10th, 2023 at 11:55 AM ^
Serious DUDES, all of them.
September 9th, 2023 at 7:05 PM ^
We didn't shut out a tomato can, we only had 6 sacks and no defensive scores against freaking UNLV. Clearly the only choice is to re-build this thing from screatch. Fire everyone, including the offensive coaches for not pushing the defense in practice hard enough.

September 9th, 2023 at 7:11 PM ^
Not many teams in the country that will be able to run the ball between the tackles on this defense. Those fellas in the middle are serious.
September 9th, 2023 at 7:12 PM ^
Grant, Graham and Jenkins up front is straight up unfair
September 10th, 2023 at 12:26 AM ^
Sounds like a law firm.
September 10th, 2023 at 12:30 PM ^
Dewey, Stoppem, & Howe
September 10th, 2023 at 12:31 PM ^
Dewey, Sackem, & Howe? I don't know. Whichever one's better.
September 9th, 2023 at 7:26 PM ^
The 2 and 3 deep on this defense is special. Can’t wait to get all the starting DB’s back.
#36 (can’t remember his name) seemed to be making some great plays early on.
Pass rush was lethal with anything more than a 3 step drop, I’m sure it wasn’t the best Oline, but they looked absolutely dominant.
This is a champion level defense, I feel better than last year. No weaknesses
My only “complaint” is I wish we saw a takeaway or 2. Although the near int and forced fumble were nice
September 10th, 2023 at 2:39 AM ^
Keshaun Harris and he appeared to start to my eyes. If not start, he was in early and often.
September 10th, 2023 at 10:19 AM ^
Harris and Wallace started. Will Johnson rotated in for at least one series. Didn't see Rod Moore at all.
September 9th, 2023 at 7:36 PM ^
Nothing to really report here. They manhandled an inferior opponent as they should.
September 9th, 2023 at 8:05 PM ^
This could have been a real stinker of a game. Misdirection-based offense that nobody has ever seen before, with a QB who can run… it COULD have been ugly.
Instead, we dominated.
September 9th, 2023 at 8:12 PM ^
It was really nice to see a QB just running for his life nearly every play against us. Unfortunately for opposing QB's there really isnt anywhere to go when that rush is coming straight up the middle.
September 9th, 2023 at 8:38 PM ^
The 1s and 2s have basically pitched back to back shutdowns. Looks like it could be an elite unit even considering the competition. Its not easy to do that even to the tomato cans
September 9th, 2023 at 8:39 PM ^
I am a doofus commenting on the wrong thread…
September 9th, 2023 at 8:42 PM ^
Lots of packages today with Grant, Jenkins, and Graham on the field together. I wish offensive lines good fortune in the wars to come.
September 9th, 2023 at 9:19 PM ^
DT's were unstoppable. Pressure was really good overall.
LB's are a quiet strength, if for no other reason than not being a problem.
This secondary is going to be elite when we get our All American Corner and All Conference Safety back. It's already excellent.
Derrick Moore is gunna be a monster.
September 10th, 2023 at 3:46 AM ^
Once Hausman and Colson make contact, the ball carrier goes down. Our DLine makes sure they are clean.
September 9th, 2023 at 9:40 PM ^
Kenneth Grant, kris Jenkins and Mason Graham are awesome
September 9th, 2023 at 11:06 PM ^
The D is outpacing the O by a decent margin, so far. That squad has been really disciplined and sound. I've been impressed.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:12 PM ^
Sick of garbage time scores erasing shutouts.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:32 PM ^
The chicken littles that were predicting a couple TD's due to "misdirection" or some nonsense after reading the FFFF on the UNLV offense cracked me up this week. Turns out the ability to block someone is more important than sticking two RB's next to each other and trying to replicate the Mad Magicians. First team D stuffed the Go-Go's right in the dumpster and lit them on fire. They would have finished with negative rushing yards if the second-thirdish team hadn't finished the game.
September 10th, 2023 at 1:15 AM ^
I thought their QB was gonna get killed; man he took some shots.
Grant is fantastic. Entire D looks so organized, focused and nasty.
Really, really good football. Depth and skill all over the defense.
Fun times in A2!!
September 10th, 2023 at 8:13 AM ^
I just love that comment. It's corny but who cares? People act like corny is a bad thing and it's not. You don't have to like it but it literally hurts nobody and he knows what he's talking about when it comes to his job. If he gives a reporter a nonsense answer it's because it was a nonsense question and it's less rude than calling the reporter out explicitly.
September 10th, 2023 at 10:30 AM ^
UNLV looking into sexual harassment charges for how many times their lineman were forced onto their backs against their will.
September 10th, 2023 at 10:34 AM ^
Defense is two deep or better at every position -- even CB2. Sure, CBs not named Will Johnson will have their hands full with Harrison and Ebuka, but that's life. What a luxury to have the ability to rotate everywhere without significant dropoff.
The third and fourth string guys definitely need time, good to see them get a solid quarter or so of work. Let's hope that continues.
