This is your thread for hot takes and snowflakes regarding the defense and defensive playcalling in our game against UNLV.

Dominating. The DL controls the line, the pass rush is there. LB play is vastly improved. The secondary, even with the injuries, seems fine. When the 1s come back, Michigan might be lights out at all three levels.

the 2nd team surely could have played better but by God it's a great luxury for this to be one of the worst complaints I have about the team this year.  I like the trajectory we're on thus far.

That's a fair point. It was a misnomer on my part.  I just meant that our first unit (1's and 2's) showed out.  Too many years on this board where everyone is melting down losing(or in way too tight of a game than we should be) to inferior competition.  I'm thankful this year that has yet to happen I suppose is what I meant to drive home.

TJ Guy got a lot of fun time before garbage time and I hope he turns the corner by November and earns snaps to add depth. Hill at CB is another that come November or least bowl season practices is earning snaps with the ones.

We didn't shut out a tomato can, we only had 6 sacks and no defensive scores against freaking UNLV.  Clearly the only choice is to re-build this thing from screatch.  Fire everyone, including the offensive coaches for not pushing the defense in practice hard enough.

The 2 and 3 deep on this defense is special. Can’t wait to get all the starting DB’s back.

#36 (can’t remember his name) seemed to be making some great plays early on.

Pass rush was lethal with anything more than a 3 step drop, I’m sure it wasn’t the best Oline, but they looked absolutely dominant.

This is a champion level defense, I feel better than last year. No weaknesses

My only “complaint” is I wish we saw a takeaway or 2. Although the near int and forced fumble were nice

This could have been a real stinker of a game. Misdirection-based offense that nobody has ever seen before, with a QB who can run… it COULD have been ugly.

Instead, we dominated.

It was really nice to see a QB just running for his life nearly every play against us. Unfortunately for opposing QB's there really isnt anywhere to go when that rush is coming straight up the middle.

The 1s and 2s have basically pitched back to back shutdowns. Looks like it could be an elite unit even considering the competition. Its not easy to do that even to the tomato cans

DT's were unstoppable.  Pressure was really good overall.

LB's are a quiet strength,  if for no other reason than not being a problem.

This secondary is going to be elite when we get our All American Corner and All Conference Safety back. It's already excellent.

Derrick Moore is gunna be a monster.

The chicken littles that were predicting a couple TD's due to "misdirection" or some nonsense after reading the FFFF on the UNLV offense cracked me up this week.  Turns out the ability to block someone is more important than sticking two RB's next to each other and trying to replicate the Mad Magicians.  First team D stuffed the Go-Go's right in the dumpster and lit them on fire.  They would have finished with negative rushing yards if the second-thirdish team hadn't finished the game.

I thought their QB was gonna get killed; man he took some shots.

Grant is fantastic.  Entire D looks so organized, focused and nasty.

Really, really good football. Depth and skill all over the defense.

Fun times in A2!!

I just love that comment.  It's corny but who cares?  People act like corny is a bad thing and it's not.  You don't have to like it but it literally hurts nobody and he knows what he's talking about when it comes to his job.  If he gives a reporter a nonsense answer it's because it was a nonsense question and it's less rude than calling the reporter out explicitly.

Defense is two deep or better at every position -- even CB2.  Sure, CBs not named Will Johnson will have their hands full with Harrison and Ebuka, but that's life.  What a luxury to have the ability to rotate everywhere without significant dropoff.

The third and fourth string guys definitely need time, good to see them get a solid quarter or so of work.  Let's hope that continues.
