Tucker given notice of intent to terminate
[ED: I changed the title. This doesn't make him officially-officially fired; it's part of the process for firing him for cause. As expected, his admission that he [redacted] with a school vendor was cause enough. But don't worry--he's still super-duper fired.]

He came. Venit.
He left. Fugit.

Not ENOUGH Clorox wipes to clean that up. Hopefully no visual or evidence!
Based on his history, we knew that it wasn't going to be a "happy ending" for Tuck!

I heard the janitorial staff suddenly quit.

Anyone who thinks you can hide something from the janitorial staff is living in a fantasy world.

If this was NYC, the Post would have had a "Mel Tugger" headline the first day. And not having this feels like the biggest injustice in the whole saga.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:00 PM ^
MOD NOTE -
We will keep this one because it has the Auerbach tweet and a snippet of additional information RE: the status of the investigations.

This is what happens when you don't step away from the monkey.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:04 PM ^
Now going...going...GONE!
September 18th, 2023 at 4:04 PM ^
I'm a bit surprised this came before his October Title IX hearing. This makes me think MSU should be able to kick ol Tugger to the curb with little or no money.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:05 PM ^
I have a feeling they wanted to fire him when news first broke, they had to slow play it to make it look like they weren't just reacting to it going public.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
From what I remember reading, the language of his contract essentially required it to go public for cause to exist. Something about affecting the reputation of the university or what have you. He could have presumably done this, and if it remained quiet, may not have given them cause to fire. The fact that they're now embarrassed through his admitted actions I suspect is exactly the timing they needed to act.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:50 PM ^
Yup, they have an entire section in the letter dedicated to the ridicule/shame/embarrassment clause in his contract, including footnotes from alumni and fans expressing their shame and disappointment.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:54 PM ^
another sign pointing to someone powerful at MSU leaking it on purpose to get him fired.
September 18th, 2023 at 6:47 PM ^
The team is slow playing it too.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:08 PM ^
Does this give Tucker more grounds to sue than if they'd waited until after the hearing? It seems like he could make the case that he wasn't given due process.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:30 PM ^
I would say no way. Absolutely no way MSU would royally screw themselves because they could not wait a couple extra weeks. But, that would require some level of competence on MSU's part, so, I don't know.
September 18th, 2023 at 5:17 PM ^
Tuck has hired Jeffrey Toobin to represent him.
September 19th, 2023 at 8:43 AM ^
Na, he admitted to it. His defense is that it was consensual, so MSU can stipulate to what he said and still have the cause of damage to university reputation. There's no additional due process needed.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:33 PM ^
(I'm a bit surprised this came before his October Title IX hearing. This makes me think MSU should be able to kick ol Tugger to the curb with little or no money.)
I might argue that since it already leaked that he was fired and they removed his photos/name from the building, proceeding with the firing might have been smarter than waiting. But who knows? That being said, I bet they still settle for a ton of dough.
September 18th, 2023 at 5:13 PM ^
I have seen some worry online by Spartan fans that the firing process could take some time and thus could delay the result past the optimal timeframe to search for and bring in a new hire -- IF they wait until after the October hearing to start the process. This seems to indicate that this is the case.
September 18th, 2023 at 6:14 PM ^
I think bringing in a new hire sooner helps that program marginally, but that's it. No one is going to come in and quickly clean up this mess. They're already recruiting at a not-great level, and this situation is going to bring more negative attention that won't help. The bottom line is MSU is destined to be a middling program (at best) most years.
September 18th, 2023 at 7:04 PM ^
Given the results of their last (awkwardly timed) hire, I can sympathize with their paranoia.
September 18th, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
The phrasing in State’s letter suggests they have more in their dossier than just this one Title IX complaint incident. I doubt this was the only University-affiliated woman he pursued.
September 19th, 2023 at 8:45 AM ^
Not title IX because victim is not a university employee, i forget what they called it but it's basically a generic ethics investigation, not regulated under title IX.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:05 PM ^
Had to happen. Once news of events like these get(s) announced, the only way to salvage anything for the employer is "termination for cause".
From Mork to Tuck to .... next?
September 18th, 2023 at 4:06 PM ^
Mork will be back..... he'll take over as a transitional HC.... just watch
September 18th, 2023 at 4:10 PM ^
That’s my bet, too.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:32 PM ^
Mork had a heart issue a few years before he retired. He sounds like a man over coaching. He really does.
September 18th, 2023 at 10:12 PM ^
When D'Antonio doesn't work out there's always John L. Smith. He's still active and I think he'd bring that program exactly what they need in an interim coach.
Comic relief.
September 19th, 2023 at 8:36 AM ^
urban liar has retired for health related issues a couple times.... yet like a removed genital wart, he just keeps showing back up.

RCMB is torn between those demanding Coach Prime and those insisting that they should hold out for Saban….who….who is going to tell them?
September 18th, 2023 at 4:40 PM ^
We'll have to take your word on this. Kudos to you hopping into that cesspool at a time like this.
September 18th, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
both equally plausible!!! Or maybe Stoops comes out of retirement.
If they had a hard time getting someone like Luke Fickell during the last round.........what makes any of them think MSU is MORE attractive as a destination after Coach Jergens further tarnished (I was going to go with "soiled" but refrained {I was going to go with "pulled out" but again refrained}) their situation?
September 18th, 2023 at 5:14 PM ^
Interim coach until end of season and then they hire LSU’s D-Coordinator, Matt House.
September 18th, 2023 at 6:26 PM ^
Oooo pick me! Pick me! I’ll tell them!
September 18th, 2023 at 4:07 PM ^
All this for a scrimmage win against us in 20', and a rent-a-player win in 21'....
HAHAHA enjoy the bed you made
September 18th, 2023 at 5:23 PM ^
In the history of sports I am struggling to think of a win that was more damaging to a team/program than MSU’s 2021 win over us.

Brian Ellerbe winning the inaugural Big Ten Tournament and getting the job full-time.

I think Hoke’s Sugar Bowl got him past year 3.
But that all led to Harbaugh
September 18th, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
He had a good run. The silver lining is that he gets to be home more often and spend quality time with his wife and family.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:54 PM ^
The real loser in this firing is his soon-to-be ex-wife. Cause half of that buyout was going to be hers.

This feels reasonably airtight. They are firing him for what he admitted he did, without regard to whether it is found to constitute sexual harassment or anything else illegal.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
This reads like a letter from an institution that might in fact have learned something.
September 19th, 2023 at 9:34 AM ^
I wish they had listed one of MGoBlog's threads along with the MSM stories.
September 18th, 2023 at 4:10 PM ^
But he was supposed to "prove the haters/doubters wrong" by going 7-5!
September 18th, 2023 at 4:11 PM ^
At his pay rate, this saves them another month of salary, which is no small sum. What a freaking dope he is.
