Zyon Pullin from UC-Riverside. Averaged 18.5 pts/game last year with high efficiency.
I am Pullin for him.
Almost made that joke in the post! Also, now it looks like Olivier Nkamhoua is visiting this week. Things are maybe looking up??
Players leave, WE'RE DOOMED!
we get a couple transfers, WE'RE BACK!
Love can't meet acceptance standards, WE'RE DOOMED AGAIN, Howard has to go!
Transfers looking at Michigan, Could we possibly be ok next season?
Don't be silly!
If he wants to be a sophomore again
Sun gonna shine on our back door someday…
We can use a 'Scotty Highlander'. I was secretly hoping for a UC-Irvine aardvark though.
EDIT: UC-Irvine Anteater (they are in fact different species)
My son attends UCR. They have a cafeteria named, “Glasgow.” That’s gotta be a sign.
Once upon a time, after hearing a beautiful girl's accent I asked her if she was from Dublin.
She icily replied "No, Glasgow". It didn't go well for me.
It was like living the Dumb and Dumber 'Austrian' scene.
Only if he's a walk-on.
UC-Irvine are the Anteaters.
Any news on Ray J Dennis?
Decision announcement is today at noon.
Michigan bowed out.
Current favorite: Baylor.
Utah and illinois (apparently what the family wants) are in the running.
Michigan bowed out or it was shoved out?
Chicken and egg, sounded like they knew they had fallen behind and redirected their efforts elsewhere.
Baylor did end up being the destination, btw.
Admissions department said nah it's MAC.
He is at Baylor.
Piecing together the limited info.
Florida has been mentioned the most at least up until this point.
Maybe their insiders just talked about him more though.
The various Michigan sites have mentioned him a bit.
Moseley at 247 has been out front the most on who we have contacted. He knew about the Tray Jackson commitment before everyone and knew Durral Brooks was committing well before everyone. He mentioned last week we were working on him.
on3 and rivals touched on it today. Been limited info so far from them.
Both think Florida is probably the current favorite.
balas mentioned he is aware of the amount of minutes available here.
Josh thinks it is a 3 team race with Florida, Michigan, and Gonzaga (in that order).
The word is is he is working on setting up a visit.
My assumption is this will take place next week.
5 star 2024 center Bidunga is here right now.
Possible reclassify candidate to 2023, but it's been mentioned a few weeks back that he doesn't intend to classify.
If I'm Howard, I'm working my ass on selling him to reclassify and come this year.
Nkamhoua visits June 2. He is basically one of the only guys we have been connected with beyond just the generic Michigan has reached out to portal player. Michigan has been recruiting him for two months and has not hosted a single portal big men visit to this point.
Maybe wrong but generally when a recruit has you on hold for months when you are the favorite it doesn't bode well.
Great stuff!
And so many one line paragraphs.
I'm overstimulated by that post!
Lol there's no way we beat out the other teams on that list
Our basketball program is legitimately in free fall. Our coach can't construct a roster. Our NIL seems to be embarrassing. Every other B1G team seems to be getting better by utilizing NIL to bring in transfers and keep their guys from going to the draft. The future is not looking good
lol
...one season and the world is coming to an end. Does it look great? Not necessarily, but this knee-jerk crap is 🤡 stuff.
You were probably ready to jump from the Empire State Building (I assume NJ is New Jersey) when Brandon Peters was lining up behind Center.
A Venn Diagram of people panicking about Juwan Howard and the people who did panic about Jim Harbaugh is a circle.
Harbaugh had a resume of success to fall back on. Howard has 1 good year with half JB guys and a few years watching LBJ be great. He shouldn't be trusted till he proves otherwise.
The people who think Harbaugh and Howard are equal baffle me.
That you're still allowed to post on this message board baffles me.
You are hands down the biggest goddamn crybaby on mgoblog.
They should at least force you to change your name.
Mgoblog OR umhoops.
Howard inherited a team that lost its top 3 lead scorers to the NBA Draft, won the battle for Atlantis, jumped from unranked to #4 in the AP Top (only 2nd time it has happened in poll history), Covid ended the season. I rank this season as good.
He then lost Xavier Simpson and Jon Teske and both their backups but replaced them with Mike Smith, Chaundee Brown, and Hunter. Won the regular-season Big Ten Championship (first since 2014), received the No. 1 seed, and advanced to the Elite Eight. I'd rank this better than good.
If that's what you meant by "1 good year with half JB guys" then I think that is being dishonest. You are talking about Eli, who really took off under Howard, and Livers, who was hurt often.
Oh, and Howard made the 21-22 sweet 16 after losing Mike Smith, Chaundee Brown, Isaiah Livers, Franz Wagner. He had one of the highest ranked recruiting classes in our history (followed by another Top 10 class). He almost made the tournament again in 22-23 despite losing De’vante Jones, Eli Brooks, Frankie Collins, Caleb Houston, Mousa Diabate and Llewellyn (injury) and missing out on Shannon thanks for admissions. This all with an incredible amount of bad luck.
TLDR don't be so dramatic.
Thank you, I am now a safe distance from the cliff.
All of that was before NIL has become was it is now. It's different waters now and we're drowning
Excellent post. Thanks!
1st year they were a middling B1G team with a very experienced PG, but Livers was hurt towards the end so that's a pass and if you want to say good year, sure, but they alright to me. Second year was great. Third year, yes they made the Sweet 16, but they were an average team in the conference again and looked worse than the previous year. This last year they were bad and it's not because of bad luck. You don't lose that many close games and play in that many close games because of bad luck.
According to your view though, this team should be better since last year was a fluke, but this is worst roster we've had in his tenure. This is one of the worst rosters in the conference. The recruiting (HS and portal) also seems to have gotten worse. Our top 2 transfers so far are a guard who has been bad at 2 other Power 5 teams and a guy who didn't even start at Seton Hall who also wasn't good. That's not inspiring a lot of confidence and you can rationally say the program is in decline.
Well don't let those facts cloud your judgement.
Two guys that showed anything under Beilein in Livers and Brooks. Stop it with this bullshit excuse.
Any coach who comes in (minus Pitino clearing house) is literally coaching the players of the past coach? Yet somehow Howard doing as well as he did with the roster that he had is all because of the last coach.
Weird. My alma mater hired a new guy last year that won NIT at Xavier than did nothing better with the last coach’s players.
Two Beilein guys, and then Teske and Austin Davis, both who did nothing under Beilein, with Davis seemingly in the doghouse because he never got any minutes.
Howard has consistently developed guys who stay. The players who come in get better at the end of the season every year. They make jumps if they come back for year 2.
All fans like you do is see discord in the fan base and make players not want to play here.
The team is in much worse position then they were before this less than stellar season started. Actually by a wide margin. Im not going to be doom and gloom but we are not in the middle of a bad season we are in the middle of a bad season and a disastrous season. If there are huge additions that can change but there are very few points being scored at the 2,3,4, and 5 positions as of right now. We would need at least 2 high level transfers. Everything is fine crowd is farther from the reality then the WE ALL GONNA DIE crowd but its probably much closer to the middle.
I was very level headed about Juwan and the situation we found ourself this past season but, come on, if you're in the "everything is fine" crowd by this point then you're just being willfully obtuse.
We have Martelli telling MLIVE there is no issues with admissions and they knew Caleb Love would be hard to get in. Well, why recruit him? Have you not learned any lessons?
Also, Marteilli saying they won't engage in NIL talks with a player. Uhm, so why do you think we keep losing on transfers? RayJ Dennis could step into the perfect situation here at M and we're not even in his top 3.
I suppose M could land Pullin and Nkamhoua and the outlook looks different - but who is willing to put money on that?
Fact of the matter is, it's getting late for this staff to pull some diamonds in the rough and without some actual valuable additions, we're fighting with Minny for DFL in the Big right now.
Curious. The subject of your commentary was Juwan; then it switched to admissions without signposting.
Not sure what you're implying here. Juwan is the head of the program and Martelli is part of Juwan's staff, right? What Martelli says publicaly should be taken that he's speaking for the program. Juwan could also comment, but my understanding is that he really doesn't like dealing with the media.
Yeah, cause the season starts tomorrow. We're doomed.
Please enlighten me why we should have any room for optimism about the basketball team right now. Juwan couldn't win this year with 2 mid 1st round picks and the guy who transferred to Kansas as the best player in the portal through a series of insane late game collapses. We know have significantly less talent on this team, are striking out in the portal, and recruiting is mediocre at best
We've given Harbaugh an extremely long leash to figure things out. We need to give Juwan at least 50% of the leash Harbaugh got. Juwan had 1 bad year in 4.
Personally, I think Juwan is a fantastic coach who is learning the finer elements of college coaching on the job. I want to see where we end up after next year before I make any judgement.
Sadly though Michigan's admission department has pre-emptively denied his enrollment. Upon review of his transcripts they found that although he did graduate Summa Cum Laude from UC Riverside with a double major of Molecular Biology and Astro-Physics while obtaining his MBA in Finance, his Doctorate thesis on "the origin off life" was still incomplete and had yet to be peer-reviewed.
Cant let just anybody in you know. Gotta have standards.
It's a wonder that I was ever admitted and allowed to complete my degree at Michigan. Sure, my grades were fine...but my greatest contribution to the university thus far is probably a post on this site that generated 2 likes. It would be nice if admissions recognized the value that athletes in major sports bring to the university.
I'll help you increase that value with like number 3 on this post.
Feels like Michigan basketball cant catch a break recently. Im gonna guess he'll commit then on like October 1st he'll decide he's going to go play overseas in Iceland or something
Hahahaha...this is Michigan basketball, son.
If people went to the games I'd feel so much more sympathetic.
Unfortunately, sounds like it’s a done deal he’s going to UF from the posters over at UMHoops.
At least we don't have to pretend like we care about basketball anymore like we have had to the past 10 years?
/s ... kinda
When I read the title, my first thought was our OL should be set. I guess I am in FB tunnel vision mode!
FB Tunnel? Be safe bro.
I spent a week in Riverside one night. Seriously though, not one of California's coolest cities. Their big claim to fame seems to be the race track.
