Today's Schedule of Games
A Big Ten showdown in Happy Valley, and a lot of subplot games with upset potential this week (Please don’t be us. Please don’t be us. Please don’t be us. Kthx).
Here are some highlights:
At Noon on FOX: #2 Ohio State at #13 Penn State. It’s dumb to do the “We beat team [fill in the blank] by more/less than Ohio State did” as a predictor of how we will do against them. Different teams play each other differently. But I’m going to do it anyway as I watch this game. It would be awesome to watch Ohio State struggle with Penn State in areas where Michigan had no problems, and see that maybe Ohio State does not really have it all figured out running the ball and defending the run like they claim. Penn State won’t win, but here is hoping that they can give OSU something to think about and fret over as November 26th looms ever closer.
Also at Noon on ABC: Notre Dame at #16 Syracuse. Any time Notre Dame loses a game, it is good for us. We constantly compete with them for top recruits. Any Notre Dame win is a nauseating media-driven Return To Glory ™, especially with a new coaching regime. Spare me please. So I’ll be rooting hard for a Syracuse win and a Notre Dame loss. Plus Dino Babers seems like a cool guy, and Syracuse deserves a break because they got chumped hard last week by the refs “Ohio State treatment” of Clemson. But . . . the world is not a fair place. This will be an ugly Notre Dame win.
In the Afternoon at 3:30 PM on CBS: Florida at #1 Georgia. The "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party". This has typically been a big game nationally, but it’s under the radar this year. Courtesy of Florida. They looked like they had a pulse early in the year, but it was a false dawn. I’ll take a peek at this game for the pageantry of it, but it won’t be much of an actual football game. Georgia wins big.
Also at 3:30 PM on FOX: #9 Oklahoma State at #22 Kansas State. This is a game to stay in the hunt for the Big 12 title. This game hinges on whether Adrian Martinez can play, and play 100%. He’s the difference maker (suck it, Scott Frost). If he can go effectively it will be a KSU win. If not, THE OSU will win it. I’ll be optimistic here and go with KSU to win.
Also at 3:30 PM on ABC: #17 Illinois at Nebraska. Nebraska is a quirky team that has some talent (suck it, Scott Frost). They have not put all the pieces together yet, but they are capable of it for a game. I think this will be that game. They will play inspired and focused and take down Big Ten West leader Illinois in an upset. The winner of the Big Ten West could easily have four losses when it is all over. Even Northwestern is not actually out of it. Stupid. Embarrassing. Fun.
In the Evening at 7:00 PM on ESPN: #19 Kentucky at #3 Tennessee. Kentucky specializes in these kinds of games where they look like a real ranked team in the middle of the season that looks like they could pull off a big SEC upset. But they seldom do, and by season’s end their attention is turning to basketball. They won’t do it today either, and Tennessee stays on a roll.
At 7:30 PM on ABC: Michigan State at #4 Michigan. If I’m Sparty, I am arm-punting Rocky Lombardi-style on every play and hoping for astonishing catches by Reed (or astonishing pass interference calls against Michigan). On defense I am putting 10 in the box and run blitzing like crazy to take away Harbaugh’s “favorite way to win”. There is a 95% chance they will lose in humiliating fashion doing that, but there is a non-zero chance they can pull off a win. It’s happened before. I hope that Harbaugh is not too stubborn to take what they leave on the table and club them to death with it. Our favorite way to win should be to not let them hang around and think they have a chance.
Also at 7:30 PM on SECN: #15 Ole Miss at Texas A&M. Nobody is talking about this game, but if I'm Ole Miss I am nervous as hell. Texas A&M is erratic to say the least. They lost to App State . . . but then they nearly beat Alabama. You don’t know what team you are going to get week-to-week and that’s why Ole Miss should be nervous. I’m predicting the upset here: Texas A&M in a convincing win.
Finally, your Pac-12 After Dark Special - meaningless crazy football just for the fun of it:
At 10:30 PM on ESPN: Stanford at #12 UCLA. This week is a half-off Pac-12 After Dark Special. It’s only meaningless to Stanford. UCLA is trying to stay in the Pac 12 title hunt, and will play like it. Only 200 people will be there to witness it, but UCLA will win and stay alive in the Pac 12.

Sean Clifford turned the ball over 4 times today. Loser
October 29th, 2022 at 3:36 PM ^
Can’t remember that last time I watched a QB (Clifford) throw so many questionable balls, there was another 3-4 interceptions that were left on the field too
October 29th, 2022 at 3:36 PM ^
44 was the #1 kid in his class right?
October 29th, 2022 at 3:57 PM ^
#4 in the class, Ewers, Foreman and Latham in front of him.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:37 PM ^
Of course the narrative nationally will be about OSU being so great and less about PSU collapsing. But that is ok, anyone who actually watched this game can see some of the same flaws OSU had last year cropping up.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:37 PM ^
Too bad Clifford doesn’t know how to pump the ball. He has broadcasted the pass several times in this game.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:37 PM ^
OSU finishing with 44 seems appropriate considering #44 on their defense has been the biggest reason for them winning the game
October 29th, 2022 at 3:38 PM ^
So FOX is expecting a tie in The Game? Both trains were ded in that graphic.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:38 PM ^
Lol at Gus trying to compare the two scores and completely ignoring the fluky nature of PSU's points against UM. UM dominated that game, OSU unequivocally did not dominate this game regardless of the score.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:38 PM ^
What do you expect from an asshole ?
October 29th, 2022 at 3:42 PM ^
Fuck Gus.
October 29th, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
Gus is a fucking clown. Glad I watched at the bar and didn’t have to listen to him.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:38 PM ^
PSU has actually outgained OSU today. This was no domination.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:39 PM ^
Let the nuts players think so !!!
October 29th, 2022 at 3:39 PM ^
Sucks to be a penn st fan.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:39 PM ^
Hey, I actually hear the PSU marching band! I didn't know they were allowed to play during games.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:40 PM ^
Bookmakers had to love that td.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:40 PM ^
OSU is world famous. Penn State is just storied.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:41 PM ^
This game definitely gave me more confidence in our game at the shoe. If we can simply limit turnovers to less than 2 and run the ball effectively, we should be able to keep osu offense on the sidelines for most of the game
October 29th, 2022 at 3:43 PM ^
If we play disciplined and consistent UoM football, we should easily dog walk osu.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:41 PM ^
41 - 17 >>> 44 - 31
October 29th, 2022 at 3:43 PM ^
Both in the delta and with the eye test
October 29th, 2022 at 3:44 PM ^
And none of the points PSU got in this game were fluky. They had far more sustained drives in this game then against UM.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:49 PM ^
98 yards total rushing yards for Midwest famous Ohio State University
October 29th, 2022 at 3:44 PM ^
Not particularly a close game lol …. Priceless Klutz
October 29th, 2022 at 3:46 PM ^
Iron sharpens iron. Beat MSU keep that train moving towards the final countdown.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:46 PM ^
This game proved conclusively that an Ohio are a bunny soft flag football squad.
And Penn State is coached by an idiot.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:46 PM ^
Our squad has to be watching this and coordinating a helluva win for us this year.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:47 PM ^
PSU put up 482 yards and 31 points on offense today.
Against us they gained 268 yards and 10 offensive points.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
lol , ok Joel. There is literally no justification to be made right now to put OSU in a different tier than Michigan. Is it just me or have Gus and Joel been insufferable this year? I mean in the past I liked Klatt for being generally fair in his observations but dude has just been slobbing OSU's knob in relation to UM this year with little actual justification.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
Joel klatt is impossible to listen to during Ohio state games
October 29th, 2022 at 3:52 PM ^
Let everyone do it. 44 was the difference in this game today. When we run it down their throats and render him useless, it won’t matter. I want OSU super cocky coming in to the game.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:55 PM ^
Ask any other fan in the B1G and they will say Gus & Joel worship at the throne of St. Harbaugh. I think we dislike OSU so much sometimes we don’t realize how much they praise our squad as well.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
Joel literally just put OSU in a tier above UM at the end of the game. There is zero justification for that right now. They just gave up almost 500 to an offense UM completely stifled besides one long Clifford run.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
I’m at the hardware store and their TV shows PSU going up 21-16. By the time I get home it’s 30-21 OSU.
Then I go outside for a few minutes of yard work and by the time I get back inside it’s 44-24.
So OSU scored four TDs in the span of just a few minutes of playing time.
Deuce Vaughn of KSU is very fast.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:52 PM ^
Frames and Clavin Clifford gave it away.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
Meanwhile, speed in space is up 9-6 in overtime with a whopping 267 yards today.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
Remember: Michigan destroyed the Penn State team that just played Keystone Kops with an Ohio for 3 1/2 quarters.
I know who the best team is in the Big Ten.
The Maize and Blue.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:54 PM ^
I mean at minimum anybody trying to say OSU is in a tier above UM is an idiot.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:59 PM ^
Dont turn on your tv.
October 29th, 2022 at 3:57 PM ^
Miami and Virginia in a nail-biter.
Going into 2nd OT
October 29th, 2022 at 4:02 PM ^
Funny thing is Miami fans realized he was a shit O coord before Michigan fans (most) did. Nobody realized after covid Gattis as offensive coordinator turned to offense play caller form a set play call sheet.
October 29th, 2022 at 4:40 PM ^
Just left the game. Virginia outplayed and definitely looked like the better coached team. 247 has Miami’s composite ranking at #13 (one spot ahead of Michigan). UVA is 59. They just couldn’t manage short yardage inside the 5.
October 29th, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
Just another chapter worth of material for anyone wishing to document Franklin's ineptness as a major college football coach.
OSU proved nothing in this game-they certainly are not "tough".
October 29th, 2022 at 4:23 PM ^
Not sure if this has already been posted, but UConn upset Boston College, putting them at 4 and 5. They'll be favored in their next game against UMass, so they just need to pull one upset against Liberty or Army to be bowl eligible.
October 29th, 2022 at 5:30 PM ^
Franklin needs to give Clifford a firm handshake, thank him for his time and effort and move on to Drew Aller and get him ready for next year and beyond.
