Tennessee coach Josh Heupel with $9M/yr extension

The head coach salary market has really reset in the last 2 years. Wonder what the new Harbaugh contract will be. Maybe Santa had to step in because Warde can't count that high.

Well for sure not fat, cant saying disparaging about ugly people, short folks have declared that a no-fly zone, dont even think about the physically challenged, speech impediments are out, definitely not religion, really definitely not sexual preferences and really, really, REALLY not a person's skin color.

I think about all that's left are stupid people doing stupid things, they are most assuredly fair game for public ridicule and have no group to defend/stick up for them.  Probably because nobody wants to admit they're stupid too so the dumb ones have to go it alone.

As someone who stutters,

I get kids asking me," Why do you talk like that?" " Am I going to start talking like that"

Adults will say they know someone who stutters and that it's OK (I don't care or need to know that)

I see adults trying to hold in laughter/smiles

At a comedy club, the comic starts talking to me, I stutter, he says if I just had a stroke. It gets a big laugh and I laugh also, he moves on from me. After the show in the handshake line, he see me and apologies big time. I tell him it's not a big deal it was funny.

I don't care, I can take it.

Amen!

I get that shaming people so they feel bad about themselves is wrong, but being fat is objectively bad for your health. I can say someone is overweight and they need to lose weight and not be making a value judgment on that person. We all have value, fat or not. But being fat is bad. End of story.

This is a huge misconception and not the case for the majority of overweight people. Most people who are overweight have bad genetics and can't overcome that. There are so many studies and documentaries that prove being overweight has very little to do with anything you mentioned - while they can be contributing factors - they are not the reason. Your gut biome, which is largely genetic, plays an incredible part in whether someone is fat or skinny - regardless of food choices, eating too much, or exercise. Millions of people who look fat, do eat healthy and exercise because it is healthy for them, but for most this only has marginal and mostly temporary effect on their appearance due to factors we are still in the early phases of understanding.

I am not comfortable with fat jokes.  Too many good people fall into that category and many are easy targets (aren't we all?).  But given the skyrocketing rate of obesity in the U.S. post the low-fat diet guidelines provided in the 70's, I would have to say that it is diet for most people.  And, geez, your gut biome is guided by what you eat so I wouldn't go with "regardless of food choices".  Have you ever eaten lunch in Silicon Valley?  You can tell who is visiting from the mid-west by their waistline.

Ward's going to need to take off his shoes and socks to count that high.

Jim will get more than this and definitely more than Tuck - with a contract that is above the board.

The dollar amounts being thrown at relatively unproven coaches is insane.

Heupel took over a 13-0 UCF team and then went 12-1, 10-3, and 6-4.

He was 7-6 in his first year at TN before going 11-2 this year.

That merits a long-term commitment at $9 million a year?   A progressively worse performance at UCF and then one good year at TN?

Harbaugh is worth $15 million, if that's the case.

Yeah, Heupel wasn't all that popular toward the end of the UCF run and I do wonder how they'll do next year with a new QB (people forget but Joe Milton was the guy they picked to start two years ago and it was only once he got hurt that Hooker got a shot), a number of new WRs, and a defense that will have some turnover.  They'll probably be okay but it is crazy he's getting paid like a top-10 coach based largely on 1 year.

It’s just the COVID year messing with everything. Same reason why Cade has the same eligibility left as JJ.

2018 - played in less than 4 games at U-M earning redshirt

2019 - played as redshirt freshman at U-M

2020 - played at U-M but COVID year doesn’t count against eligibility

2021 - redshirt sophomore year at UT

2022 - redshirt junior year at UT

2023 - redshirt senior year at UT

We'll see.  Before the bowl game he completed 50% of his passes against South Carolina (admittedly in a blowout late and with Hooker getting hurt unexpectedly), 52% against Vandy (with basically half his yardage coming on a bomb to an open Hyatt), and then the solid performance against a good (if somewhat undermanned) Clemson defense.  So maybe he's turned it around or maybe he just had a good game.  But I'm absolutely looking forward to UT being severely over-ranked coming into next year.
