So the way you handle that is by noting it and people will understand that your sourcing is based on heresay not factual knowledge. If you have an unconfirmed report, acknowledge it. Better to be late and accurate than first and off the mark especially when the story is in the details not the headline.

Negged for complaining about being negged - nobody likes a whiner!!!!  First rule about MGoPoints - never talk about MGoPoints.

But yeah, bad news will always be negged, especially without a reputable source.  So take your negs in stride, they're not personal.  Well, not usually - sometimes they are, but not this time!

How can MGoPoints not matter? Check your account and set your premiums! I have mine set as follows:

5k MGoPoints - OMG shirtless poster of Brian

10k - Woodson signed football

50k - OMG pantsless poster of Brian

51k - Season tickets on the 50

Am I the only one who bothered to set this?

And now, you are proven correct. Make sure to let everyone know you got neg-banged and then ended up being correct for as long as you visit this board. In 2045 I want a post that says, "you guys remember that time I said Erick All was transferring, got neg-banged for it, and then he did in fact transfer? That was sweet justice, wasn't it? Sweet, sweet justice..."

You got neg-banged because your comment was buried in a thread about another player and was written poorly, so that people had to read it twice before they realized what you were saying.  People who didn’t read it twice negged you thinking the same thing I did at first — that you were calling the original message a lie.

You might still have gotten negs for reporting bad news, but I don’t think that’s what they were for in this case.

This board can be brutal.

In 2017, when Michigan played Purdue, a user came onto the board to claim that he knew, from an insider at Purdue, that Purdue's first play would be a throwback screen to the QB.

He was raked over the fucking coals. He was EXCORIATED. People DEMANDED his source, and, when he didn't give a name, just flamed him.

Guess what Purdue's first play was? Throwback screen to the QB, caught Michigan completely unprepared. Big gain.

I understand wanting a source, but holy shit folks don't seem to understand "from an anonymous dude who would know" tidbits

And?

Being correct isn't what's important here.  "I know a guy" is bad practice and opens the door to every troll and lowlife doing the same thing.  In technical terms, it's a social engineering vulnerability.  So it's never going to be good enough sans evidence, at least until you've established yourself as a credible source (which is rarefied territory here).

You're absolutely right. We shouldn't accept unsourced rumors as fact, and even sourced rumors should be treated with a healthy dose of skepticism.

The point is that, sometimes, "I have a source who I will not name" is the way that these things work. And for something like All being in the transfer portal within a day, or Purdue running a specific trick play...these are all verifiable. So instead of the board collectively responding with "fuck you" (wish I could find that thread, my memory is that folks crossed the line), we could have responded with "we'll see."

People who are trying to establish themselves as a credible source need to demonstrate that they have access to consistently reliable information. BUT, if I have a tidbit and MGoBoard abuses me for posting it...I'm not going to post anything the next time I have a tidbit.

Guess that means they were using scripted plays for their opening drive. Funny how teams do that. You can still report what you know without confirmation by admitting how you obtained the information.

People are always willing to accept shared information if they believe there is relative credibility in the substance of the report even if not fully authoritative. Hence rumors.

This has been common in here for years. I love my school, but some of our people are so smart that they can't grasp basic concepts such as, someone may personally know these guys and therefore can't out a source so a nerd knows its real. I say fuck your source. Be glad you're getting inside info. Some of the coaches are.

Join the club and don't let it bother you. It's why I stopped sharing info here. If it's not good news people freak out on you even if you've provided rock solid info before.

All leaving was known 2 days ago by anyone with half an ear around Ann Arbor but, again, I'm done sharing info here.

Downvotes aren't something to worry about at all but people insulting you or generally talking shit is lame. If you've avoided that, be happy.
