Yeah, it's like those passive-aggressive shots people take toward their exes on Facebook and then deny they're about anyone in particular when called on.

"Well if you think it's about you, then maybe the shoe fits! (sassy emojis)"

Bummer all around if he didn't feel supported through his recovery, but we're only left to speculate at this point why he's feeling jammed up. I wish him the best as a fellow Michigan Man.

This is how I read it. Two captains transferring, with this cryptic statement, seems to imply:
(a) Other reasons.
(b) Not being at liberty to share them.
(c) But wanting people to know that he wasn't abandoning Michigan.

I wouldn't call that a "shot." Just take it for what it is, and respect both the player and the program, since despite whatever decisions were made on either side, that is what each of them have decided to do with the other.

I have no idea what he means or who it's directed at but it sure reads like a shot at someone.  It's not a good look and doesn't help anything.  Sometimes it's better to say exactly what you mean or just take the high road and say nothing.  This isn't fair to all the people who will now be subjects of speculation.

The one about all those players -- injured, lack of work ethic, etc. -- all look the same?

Edit: Just went back to rewatch it. He reads, "The hurt player, the out-of-shape player, the unmotivated player, the poorly-prepared player, and the bad player all look alike." - Dave Adolph

To be fair, I'm not sure I really like that quote. Or at least, don't know if I agree with the inclusion of hurt players with those who don't care.

Double edit: After reflecting on the quote a little bit more later, I think what is meant by it is: you may look at someone and see a "bad" player, but what does that mean? You see a "bad player," but I see a player struggling with a chronic injury. You may just see a bad player, but I see a player who needs more strength & conditioning. Or a player who hasn't been prepared properly. Or a player who needs motivation. It's a coach's job to look deeper.

After some further thought about it, I believe the quote is saying: "You may look at someone and see a 'bad player,' but a coach needs to look deeper and remedy why. Are they hurt? Do they need more strength and conditioning? Do they need more preparation? Do they need motivation?

"They all look the same" means that these may all just come off as "bad," but someone whose job is to develop and coach them has to look closer.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of divide in the locker room because of it.  Maybe not a large one but there have to be guys that saw Cade lead Michigan past Ohio State and into the CFP only to be put in a QB battle the next year.

I think Harbaugh made the right call and have ever since the summer, but he had to know that it would rub some in the locker room the wrong way.  It's collateral damage from that decision.

On the flip side if they keep Cade as starter, they likely lose JJ to the portal and we miss out on his upside.  Cade is an excellent QB but hard to argue that he has JJ's upside.

It’s no secret McNamara feels like he wasn’t treated properly. He publicly stated he didn’t even know why there was a QB competition. His response to losing the job was a season long pout which ended with his transfer. I don’t really blame him. He’s a competitor who thought last year’s success should’ve guaranteed him the job. He’s not an objective observer who’s able to acknowledge McCarthy is simply better than he is. He’s also not the team-first Saint some fans want to portray him to be.

I don’t have a grudge against McNamara. As I just said, I can understand why he feels the way he obviously feels. If I were him, I might feel the same way. All I ever said was that McCarthy was the better player and Michigan would have to start him or lose him. What I do disagree with is the idea of Captain Cade, the true blue Michigan man who wants only the best for the team. You seem to be a proponent of this version. If you are, how do you explain the distance he maintained during the season (as opposed to Ronnie Bell’s example from last year) and his silence when he left?

Sure is, but I don’t know how that can be. Just like Captain McNamara is the absolutely finest, team first kind of guy, despite his lack of presence since losing the job and the lack of any expression of appreciation or encouragement for his teammates as he left. The unpopular truth is that on any team there will be players with grievances, damaged egos and/or hurt feelings who are more about themselves than the team, and I don’t think there’s necessarily anything wrong with it. Players want to play. Some are more gracious about it when things don’t go their way than others. Good luck to All. He was a good player for Michigan, but Loveland is a star.

That could be. And he could just want to go play with his close friend, both of them having experienced some ego-checking setbacks this year, and want a fresh start somewhere.

I get that entirely, too. I like them both better at Michigan, but I can't begrudge anybody doing what they think is best for themselves. At the end of the day, you have to be your biggest advocate.

They'll both remain Michigan Men, wherever they go, and I'll root for them.
