State fans losing it after the four additional suspensions
November 1st, 2022 at 7:34 PM ^
All of the Spartans I know have been reasonable. I think the internet is the worst.
November 1st, 2022 at 7:48 PM ^
The Spartan "journalists" and media have been quite bad.
Jim Comparoni: "...they [Michigan] get away with it, whether it's Penn State throwing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches down the hallway here, and it's childish..."
November 1st, 2022 at 8:12 PM ^
Yes, Michigan sure got away with PSU throwing sandwiches at them and MSU assaulting their players. In other news, I got away with my car being stolen.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:19 AM ^
Hey, you're the one who left gas in the tank.
November 1st, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
Valenti too. He’s just making shit up.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:14 AM ^
Check out Rico Beard's Five star podcast from 11/1, Howard Griffin was the guest and they discussed this at length, Howard shut down every argument Rico made. He was really well articulated and the points that he made were solid.
November 1st, 2022 at 8:23 PM ^
I mean, it's a vocal minority, but it ain't just idiots being idiots on the internet either. You hear a lot of of it from their pundits and fans on the radio too. I've also heard more whataboutism and subtle victim blaming in the last three days than I care to mention even from the "reasonable" fans.
November 2nd, 2022 at 6:53 AM ^
Agreed - most Spartan fans I personally know have responded reasonably, but not all. I’ve had two different friends (who are normally reasonable people) try to victim blame, make excuses, etc. I suspect they were just influenced by the trash elements of the Sparty media (Comparoni, valenti, beard) but I don’t care. They both got an earful from me because this isn’t a proper subject for the usual good-natured shit talk.
November 2nd, 2022 at 10:14 AM ^
one of my kids teachers (9th grade) is a MSU alum and blames Harbaugh for the incident.
November 1st, 2022 at 8:14 PM ^
Yeah ditto, I'm not talking to people about it. Yet even a couple of them still manage to post stupid crap on FB. Not sure if just trolling but doubt it.
November 1st, 2022 at 8:49 PM ^
Blue Metal,
I get it. My annual Halloween visit with my childhood best friends was about 5 minutes long yesterday. When MSU wins the game, they post up on my porch for over an hour and want to talk all about my thoughts on the game and Harbaugh. After last years game they were walking memes of “Tuck Coming” and of course thinking CFP after their big win. This year…in the brief few minutes I got to see them all they wanted to talk about was family: their aging parents and their kids. No sports talk dared be mentioned.
I know they are better people than Valenti, Comp, & RCMB but I also think they are as tribal as anyone and are doing mental gymnastics trying to process how this could be Harbaugh’s fault before opening their mouths. They would fear my response unless they can really get themselves to fully believe.
November 1st, 2022 at 9:02 PM ^
Tucker probably doesn't know what most of the fans are saying. Football coaches work insane hours during the season.
It would be nice if the MSU press corps would act like responsible adults, though.
November 1st, 2022 at 11:09 PM ^
Caputo tore apart RCMB tonight on the air. He emphasized that he is an MSU alum and referred to RCMB as a cesspool and agrees that MSU football has a terrible culture problem right now.
So there's one.
November 1st, 2022 at 11:35 PM ^
Most Sparty fans are embarrassed but echo the "the 2 UM players should have never been in the tunnel" - WTF? Can't you walk down any street without being harassed or at least getting the police to support you.
The additional chumps were the cops who did nothing (watched an assault) and the MSU FB director who ran AWAY from a mess.
November 2nd, 2022 at 10:04 AM ^
This is my biggest fear as well. I stated in this thread that my son's travel baseball coaches (2 of them) and HUGE Sparty alums/fan. Gloating about wanting Harbaugh to stay as long as he wants to.
I see them this Sunday, I'm pretty sure I won't say anything because I will not like what they will respond with and that would set me off. Better to remain quite and take the high road
November 1st, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
The RCMB really is a scary place. Social media in general is awful and brings out the worst in people, but that echo chamber is especially toxic. It’s legitimately disturbing to think that group of folks are the same people who live in my neighborhood and are out and about in my community.
November 1st, 2022 at 7:49 PM ^
The difference between Twitter/RCMB is 180 degrees from Reddit. Twitter and RCMB are cesspools. I think a majority of the fan base thinks this whole thing is disgusting.
November 1st, 2022 at 8:00 PM ^
Yes. Day Walkers. They are among us.
November 1st, 2022 at 8:37 PM ^
Even M.L. Elrick, the Pulitzer-winning local reporter and Sparty fan, went on the air and said anyone who talks smack during a game deserves to get smacked. He basically said the 2 Michigan players had it coming. This is one of the best known reporters in town -- a guy who ran for office -- downplaying the assaults and saying the victims deserved like some Qanon yahoo. It's guys like him who explain why lunatics are now physically attacking political opponents with hammers. He's also acting exactly like the stereotype of a Sparty -- inferiority complex, thuggish, Joe Pesci.
November 1st, 2022 at 9:06 PM ^
Yes, unfortunately events of the past few years make this not that unbelievable.
November 1st, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
M.L. Elrick’s entire family are MSU alums. I just listened to his podcast. I can’t believe he said he would literally punch anyone who chirps “little brother” at him. He was not kidding. A journalist I considered reasonable and astute reveals himself to be an unhinged wacko because of a college athletic rivalry.
November 2nd, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
That kind of response to the chirp is the exact reason the chirp exists. If they don't like it, they should stop acting that way.
November 1st, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
I 100% disagree that any of the drivel originating from RCMB should be shared here.
November 1st, 2022 at 7:35 PM ^
I can't go there because those people are just too far off for me. I used to chuckle when I would read some of their comments but the filthy ones started to outweigh the funny ones.
After watching Mel's antics on the sideline Saturday night coupled with all the wood shed, deep water, keep chopping, tuck comin, tough-guy-picture bull shit...how in the actual fuck can those people not recognize there is a problem? The fish starts stinking from the head and they should be embarrassed for not being embarrassed for supporting such a shit hole football program.
November 1st, 2022 at 7:38 PM ^
"Following the 29-7 loss at Michigan on Saturday, Windmon and safety Xavier Henderson were seated together for a postgame press conference. In a question posed to both, they were asked if they saw what happened in the tunnel. Henderson said he didn’t while Windmon didn’t respond."
I wonder why he didn't respond.
"In a joint statement from athletics director Alan Haller and coach Mel Tucker, the Spartans suspended senior Jacoby Windmon, senior Brandon Wright, junior Justin White and freshman Malcolm Jones for their roles in the altercation."
November 1st, 2022 at 7:46 PM ^
Xavier Henderson actually helped pull the assaulters away (which I give him credit for), but it's somewhat inexcusable to lie about it.
November 1st, 2022 at 8:07 PM ^
Charitably, because he did pull some folks away, I'd take that answer as "I didn't see what started it." I'm also not going to fault a him for not breaking it all down in a press conference.
November 1st, 2022 at 9:46 PM ^
Xavier earned my respect.
November 2nd, 2022 at 10:08 AM ^
As he shouldn't. Ya the press will ask, but in his case the less said the better.
Windom on the other hand should have simply stated "No comment". To outright lie only made him look worse.
November 1st, 2022 at 7:40 PM ^
Again, what power 5 program is shameless enough to act like this on the field or in the stands? Is UCLA doing this? Oklahoma State? Georgia? UNC? West Virginia? Etc. Its MSU and maybe Miami. The whole culture of their athletics is toxic
At least MSUs leadership is taking It seriously so far
November 1st, 2022 at 7:52 PM ^
"At least MSUs leadership is taking It seriously so far."
They "have" to show leadership for obvious reasons, otherwise the entire country would see them as a joke. Something the locals already know.
Just when they thought they were over the Nasser issue(s), a different problem occurs to show their culture.
Spartans will...
...cover it up
...ignore others
...take little responsibility
...blame others
...
November 1st, 2022 at 8:30 PM ^
Isn't the only one taking it seriously the exiting president who is exiting because he's not enough of an insular good ole boy for the regents who then moved up his replacement to today?
November 1st, 2022 at 8:55 PM ^
Yes. That is 💯 true.
November 1st, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
I know Warren's kid goes to MSU. But logic still dictates that the B10 is gonna throw the book at Sparty and hang them out to dry. This looks really bad for the league's image, which has already been tarnished by all the pedo-ish scandals. They need to make an example out of someone, and Sparty is the perfect example. It's not a big brand. It's B-list all the way. Who cares if they get kicked to the curb? Nobody. Just wait.
November 1st, 2022 at 9:04 PM ^
Warren might also want his son's school to get its act together. His being an MSU parent doesn't necessarily mean he likes what he's seen.
November 1st, 2022 at 9:20 PM ^
I wouldn't be surprised if Warren is planning for his son to be somewhere else next season. He knows what's coming.
November 1st, 2022 at 8:26 PM ^
Oh no-not so fast on the MSU "leadership". Ben Mathers, Director of MSU Football Operations is sweating huge bullets right now. Because in the two upcoming civil suits he will be a major target and both Green and McBurrows will likely receive in excess of 5 million from gutless, characterless Ben. "Tuck comin" will be coming right behind him in this regard.
November 2nd, 2022 at 12:22 AM ^
Good point. I wonder if Ishbia will be paying to settle these law suits too.
November 1st, 2022 at 8:46 PM ^
Not yet yet aren’t. Not one game has been missed. No real punishment has been announced.
November 1st, 2022 at 7:43 PM ^
Who gives a shit?
November 1st, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
They're trying to claim Jacoby Windmon didn't do anything wrong, and was trying to break up the "fight".
November 1st, 2022 at 7:54 PM ^
My response to Staee:
November 1st, 2022 at 8:03 PM ^
Blaming the tunnel at Michigan Stadium for what happened Saturday night is like blaming doors for the mass shooting at the elementary school in Uvalde.
November 1st, 2022 at 8:50 PM ^
Please do not equate anything in sports to actual children being murdered
November 1st, 2022 at 8:20 PM ^
The portal must be under a Tuck ctrl + F5 pummeling these days.
November 1st, 2022 at 8:22 PM ^
The only frustrating thing (to me) is they will now shorthand this season as the one where Michigan State was wrongfully forced to bench players because of a fight, as opposed to the season that showed Mel Tucker is a total garbage snake oil salesman. Let those players play - they can keep losing on the field as far as I'm concerned, and deal with their court cases on off days.
November 1st, 2022 at 9:18 PM ^
Does it matter though? MSU's program is a tire fire right now either way.
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:20 AM ^
The Illini will put that fire out.
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:26 AM ^
...by pissing on them.
