STAEE ‘Rock Bottom’ Schadenfreude — Oh, the irony of buying donuts to numb the pain from MSU’s 49-donut loss

my kids are in the Lake Orion schools so we gotta support the L.O. Dragons who just capped their season at 9-0 by defeating Saline 35-28. But I was hoping that Prieskorn and Adams had a better season. didn’t get a chance to see the kid play even though Adams is 5 miles from home.

Freep: Lake Orion put the clamps on the Notre Dame commit during the second half after he was 16-for-23 for 228 yards and a touchdown in the first half.

Carr especially struggled in the second half under duress, going 4-for-12 for 37 yards and two interceptions

In a normal year I would be going bananas over this game, but too many msu fans I know are such arrogant assholes about everything that it just isn't as fun anymore.

And as far as I know that's THE foremost source of fan intel and discourse about MSU football? CW Mgoblog. A pretty impoverished landscape over there, all around.

The saddest thing I've seen over there are appeals to replace the president, suggesting that with a former security guard overseeing the AD there's zero pressure to get things right, move forward, anything. . .

A lot of things that stink to high heaven never really become widespread knowledge in this country, but that's a pretty long list of ugly they've amassed lo these four, five years.

When the image of a 170-year old institution starts to erode severely, recovering it might be the work of decades. You have to feel a little bit surprised that no one has been brought in to clean house; sounds like the trustees are mostly rooted in the ugly? Sounds like they're at a complete impasse?

OTOH, maybe there are people looking, saying, 'Hey, our hoops, soccer, and x programs are in healthy shape; all we have to do is find a coach of some probity for football, use the portal and we can be back in business? I mean, they had a crowd there to start that game?

If some serious writer put the whole picture together, would read.

I just looked at eleven warriors and there's a post about how we're classless dbags for going for that last touchdown, and then how they're going to curb stomp us in Ann Arbor. See you on November 25th, boys.

Donuts weren't the only food for thought posted on RCMB in the wake of that historic drubbing.   My favorite was multiple posts (upvoted multiple times) saying that there wasn't much of a talent gap between the two rosters.   49-0 happened mostly because UM is well coached and everyone coaching MSU is actually only qualified to launder uniforms after games and practices.

The delusion is so off the charts I can only shake my head with wonder.

Articles? Comments?

Is it about the sign stealing stuff? We're just going to have to get used to that being part of the story no matter what the investigation outcome is and no matter what its actual influence is (i.e., negligible). I think when the dust settles and we get some distance from this, MSU and OSU will never let it go and everybody else mostly will.

I know The Athletic is paywalled so I won't post the link but the comments were about the tone of the article (the writer didn't castigate Michigan as much as he should have so he must be a homer. Someone called him a hack); strength of schedule, or lack thereof; lack of integrity (Michigan always claims to do things the right way, yet here they are, stealing signs); and a couple about Dr. Anderson (rich coming from MSU, OSU, or PSU fans). The comments all seem to be borne out of the sourness of grapes.

I found my thoughts toward the end of the game drifting toward the idea that the team we cheer for would exhibit the best behavior possible, and approach the other team for handshakes. In part to display sportsmanship as it should be, but a little twinge in that dark corner of my mind that would chug the schadenfreude like it was in a beer bong.I guess I'll just enjoy how empty the stadium was toward the end of the game.

The entire Big 10 really stinks this year. Yes it is fun watching Michigan destroy these teams but I wish they actually had some competition to prepare for the playoffs.  The entire Big 10 West is terrible on offense and most on defense.

I don’t think Penn St nor OSU are that hot either.  Both have a lot of flaws.  I guess both will be better tests than the shitty teams Michigan has played thus far.

still it’s hard not to absolutely love this team.  I so hope they can stay healthy.  The depth, the play, the lack of stupid penalties (at least by the starters) the discipline are just fantastic.  I think the Purdue game will be another where it’s a name your score.  They may hit 70 against the Boilers who are the exact opposite.

If I was State I would not really worry “about last night” and just … move on. Just like Lions today it was just a game. Temp coach … wasted year anyway. Still got an outside shot at a bowl game somehow.
