The starting qb is not on the roster imo.
If moore is gone be a gangsta getting Alford, then you do the same at the most important position.
Man - people are cranky with you, but if we put out a QB next year throwing 50% and chucking picks all day while our Defense is left to play error-free football... we're gonna be pissed. Granted, we missed the entire free agency portion because of the coaching change... but..
I feel like Milroe is Steven Threet in reverse. He's gonna get all hyped to make it work in Deboer's system, when he belongs in our system. He's the perfect fit, assuming we don't drastically change htings. but its hard to ask QBs to look objectively at their situation and assess that its not gonna work out.
I feel like we need to do some tampering over there, just to see whats up

1) Doubt we'll have a QB throwing picks all over the place because, like Harbaugh, Moore isn't going to let his QB YOLO it out there on the field. We'd sooner run the ball 32 straight times.
2) If you want Milroe, we have Orji. Just got to polish him up. Can't rule it out yet.
3) Tuttle = Cade...probably. Point being we're not dead in the water at QB.
All that said above, if we can get a portal upgrade in the fall, that's good, too.
March 18th, 2024 at 10:56 AM ^
Granted it is Moore's team now and he was running Harbaugh's team on short notice in Happy Valley, but this was a guy who did not go YOLO with a possible Top-5 pick at QB; actually did the complete offense. Highly doubtful he goes that route with any QB next year
March 18th, 2024 at 11:03 AM ^
not mad at anything you said... but QB throwing picks means... more that the coaches go super conservative on offense because they dont trust him. To your point, even when we HAD an elite upperclassman QB.. we still barely did it. so, if they let the new guy throw and he isnt accurate or worse yet... is accurate to the other team.. its gonna make things tight.
Our bar has raised beyond... not dead in the water.. right? I mean, we have a very very good team coming back, and with an elite QB, easily in the playoffs. But without... Oregon, PSU, OSU, angry roids, etc... wont be easy.
baffles me that these other schools like texas and bama and osu have 19 deep at these elite positions and we can't keep a 2nd string guy happy even though he'd play a ton. feels like money has become the #1 factor for majority of players... and that really applies to transfers.
March 18th, 2024 at 11:18 AM ^
Sounds good, I'm basically with you. It would be nice if our bar at QB was J.J. McCarthy but I really think that was the exception. If we can assume SMASH Moore will continue (if not embellish) the run-first offense, then we're not going to get QB recruits. Or WR recruits. And that's fine for as long as it works. If/when it stops working, something has to change. Either the coach's approach, or the coach.
And by "working" I guess we all have different definitions. It's hard to say what will be considered success right now because of the new Big Ten and new playoff era, but I don't think we should plan on going on some kind of Alabama/Clemson/Georgia run. I'm not sure those teams are going to continue on those runs themselves. UGA is the one who has the best shot and even if they do it, they are One of One.
March 18th, 2024 at 12:06 PM ^
This. All picks and sacks mean is extra OL coming into the game. 3 picks = 8 OL finishing the game on the field.

If you want Milroe, we have Orji. Just got to polish him up.
Yeah, just a little more touch on the deep ball, and he's a clone.
Wait, what deep ball? What pass at all? The coaches called one pass pay for the dude all year, and no one was open, so he never threw it. He was fourth string last year for a reason. I do not understand the Orji love. He's Joe Milton but no arm.
Orji is upside and potential, like Milton. So it might not work out, sure.
But when you said “What deep ball, what pass at all?” I thought you were talking about the offense in general, not just specifically Orji.
This whole idea of he's a Milton clone keeps coming up and is old.
I wasn't talking about skills, but hype. He hasn't shown anything as a passing quarterback at all. Why folks think he's going to leapfrog up the depth chart is a mystery.
Maybe the opinion of the QB coach who says Orji is not the same guy when Campbell first saw him. I don’t get why we should disbelieve the ability of his coach to help him improve in passing. I expect the spring game to show promise.

Yes, because coaches usually rip their players to the press.
“Not the same guy” doesn’t imply he’s QB1 material. Nor do I expect a coach to publicly rip a player’s abilities anyway. What did you expect Campbell to say?
Listen, we all want Orji to be good, but let’s not kid ourselves into thinking Milroe or Milton has been riding the bench.
Agree. This level of excitement for a QB no one has seen throw a pass is mystifying.
March 18th, 2024 at 11:10 AM ^
The QB has to be on the roster tbh. Who was giving the 1st team defense the best mock of the opponent every week last season.
They rotated scout team QBs throughout the year to fit the style of play of the other QB. Orji simulated Milroe because they had similar styles of play. I believe it was Warren or Denegal simulating Penix and McCord iirc.
March 18th, 2024 at 11:26 AM ^
Milroe did graduate in December, so he'd have no issues enrolling as a grad student. But I suspect Deboer can adjust his offense to reasonably fit Milroe and they have had numerous conversations on how to do it.
March 18th, 2024 at 10:05 AM ^
Not sure why you are getting downvoted. People wouldnt complain if Noah Fifita all of a sudden chose Michigan and brought a WR or 2 here.
March 18th, 2024 at 10:27 AM ^
Agree with the confusion over this statement. You never want to go into a year with QB being your biggest question mark / arguably weakest position. We're returning what -- like a total of 5 complete passes in garbage time? I think too many people are falling into the Brian Cook trap of "just run wishbone with Orji all day and profit."
The defense is going to be elite. Our O line has multiple players that have been cooking for years. We're going to be solid at RB and slot. Needs still are a proven Qb and an outside WR1.
March 18th, 2024 at 10:27 AM ^
It's possible to be clear-minded about something and an insufferable ass at the same time. IMO "Franz" has often been a good example of this on MGoBlog. Maizen is the best of all time.
March 18th, 2024 at 10:39 AM ^
So is he being down voted because he’s an ass or his comment?
March 18th, 2024 at 10:42 AM ^
yes.
March 18th, 2024 at 10:59 AM ^
I highly doubt that he's not on roster yet. Moore will roll with Orji or Denegal or Tuttle, in that order.
I would be surprised if Orji is the QB.
Unless there is more to his passing skills than we have seen…I just don’t think being one dimensional wins at the highest level.
It's amazing how fans make such ignorant calls based off of very little information. All you do is show your lack of a logical imagination that people grow. People develop. Athletes improve with, get this, really good coaching. If you want to stare at a guy's high school passing stats and say "He cannot throw" after he's been in Michigan's program for three years--WTF do you think the coaches have been doing? They put Orji in games. He wouldn't have gotten time in the playoffs if he was not considered as part of the present and future of the program. As Campbell said recently in an interview, the actual OC has said they have guys on the team they believe are starters. You don't deserve to have Franz' name as your SN.
Well it’s more than just high school stats that give the impression that he can’t throw. We’ve seen him in spring games, it wasn’t pretty. We had four QBs attempt a pass last season, he was not one of them. There’s far more data saying the kid struggles as a passer than there is saying he’s competent in that area.
They put Orji in games. He wouldn't have gotten time in the playoffs if he was not considered as part of the present and future of the program
Okay but none of that points to him being a starting QB. He was put into games because he’s 240 lbs and freakishly athletic. He was put on the field to use that athleticism and size as a runner. Nobody said he’s not part of the present or future of the program. There are plenty of roles he can fill that don’t include being QB1.
Now obviously he can develop the arm and learn to be an all-around QB. But nothing we’ve seen has suggested he’s close to that point.
We smoked half of our schedule yet we still never saw Orji throw a pass.
If he was the heir apparent to run the offense any time soon we would have seen him get those types of snaps.
When it comes to have a well rounded offense my guess is he might be behind Tuttle, Denegal, Warren, and probably after a a few months Jadyn Davis.
Maybe there is more to the strory that we have not seen and maybe he develops but those are the dots I’m connecting.
Crazy to me how many people here think Moore plans to kick off his career with a no-name QB w
Crazy to me so many people think Moore is just gonna roll the dice in his first year with some totally unproven career backup QB — while facing the country’s hardest schedule. None of the guys on the roster are top-tier starters. I’d put it at 100 percent Moore is intensely scouting for a transfer. To do otherwise would be beyond foolish. Transfer incoming. Rudock it.
I don’t know where you think a top-tier starter is going to enter the portal from or why they would join an offense like Michigan’s if they did.
Jalen Milroe is the player to be named later in the Sabb trade.
March 18th, 2024 at 10:38 PM ^
Is there any fanbase that wants Milroe to join their program more than Michigan's?
The starting qb is not on the roster imo
Unfortunately, you are wrong.
Wish our DL coach could be there but he's in timeout right now.
Some would call it red lock.
I guess that technically - Team 145 has been in S&C since shortly after the National Championship.
But - today - the first day of Spring Camp - IMO, is the "real" start of Team 145 and the upcoming season.
Hoping for a very productive Spring Camp - with continued focus on their culture and quality of execution.
I know I'll be cheering for every player on the roster - looking forward to seeing them take the field against Fresno State and throughout the season.
Go Blue!
We were spoiled the last three years. I’m gonna temper my exceptions this year. Just kidding, I’m insane…NATTY OR BUST! 🤷🏼♂️
March 18th, 2024 at 10:00 AM ^
If they solve the QB position, I think they'll be one of 6-8 teams that have a legitimate shot.
Our Defense.. wow. I saw the projected starters. Pretty stacked at each level, though i think Hausmann (or someone else) needs to come in a little slimmer. Colson was everywhere and i duno who the next do-everything fast MLB type is... But the 2ndary and the DL look pretty awesome.
Not sure on offense what they plan, but.. hoping for a couple more spring additions
March 18th, 2024 at 10:04 AM ^
The strength of the defense puts us in position to win the Big Ten and to make a run. I think the OL will get there and it is going to come down to getting good QB play.
March 18th, 2024 at 10:27 AM ^
I think winning the conference is a bigger ask this year given the tougher schedule M has vs that of OSU. M has a much smaller margin for error in that regard.
It’s going to be interesting with no East or West no PSU on the schedule. I am not high on USC but them Oregon and UW away (coast trips are tough) provides plenty of places to stumble.
I think the OL will be better as the season goes along. Still could see us not winnnig the big Ten but making noise in the CFP.
It seems like we need an East and a West. Crazy to think we could play OSU 3x
March 18th, 2024 at 12:02 PM ^
Hawt Take.....Our O-line will take the slightest step back if any this year from last year. A lot of upperclassman on the roster to fill in the gaps.
March 18th, 2024 at 12:17 PM ^
we said that this past year too, by the way, and they did not! Also, everything ive read says that this NU guy we got in the portal is a huge fit for need
March 18th, 2024 at 12:31 PM ^
I think if Michigan wants to four-peat, they need above average QB play at minimum, and with the guys that are currently on the roster right now, I can't say with any degree of certainty that we'll get that. The schedule does Michigan absolutely no favors next year, and unlike last year, there is no "ramp up" period for the team. You have Texas in Week 2, USC in week 4 or 5, and Oregon not long after.
Consider the fact that OSU, by comparison, has a stupid easy schedule next year. At Oregon will be tough, but if they get past Oregon, they'll almost certainly come to the Michigan game undefeated. They have to go to Penn State, but at this point in Franklin's tenure, the venue is scarier than the opponent itself. Short of Drew Allar having a career renaissance, I think its going to be same ol' same ol' for Penn State.
The defensive talent is there for Michigan to win the Big Ten again, but short of landing a difference-maker QB in the spring transfer portal (not impossible, don't know who will be entering but you can't put all your eggs in that basket), who gets up to speed QUICKLY, next year feels like a year where missing on Dante Moore or some other difference maker in his recruiting cycle will hold the team back from bigger goals.
And that's okay. Coming off a freaking national title, Sherrone Moore has a lot of built in runway as long as the team doesn't implode.
March 18th, 2024 at 10:05 AM ^
They need to add a WR from one of the stacked WR rooms that are out there. The guy who thinks he's going to get the 2nd or 3rd spot at a high-powered passing attack and doesn't get it and could come here and be the 1st option outside. I think they will be okay regardless with Loveland, Morgan and Morris, but would be nice to get another big target.
I think it would be nice to add a QB as well. If Moore were to beat out Gabriel at Oregon, that's the highest profile guy I think Michigan could bring in.
