Good indeed!

I used to go on a Michigan football trivia site and I was by far the best one on a daily basis on that site.

This guy claiming to be Shemy was accusing me of cheating and would give me shit every day I won, which was over 80% of the time.

Now if that was indeed Shemy and turns out he is a racist prick, fuck him and good riddance!

Racist piece of shit that many on this board defended hiring.  Glad to see him gone.

The fact that he was even hired is an indictment of our hiring process.  Just do the BARE FUCKING MINIMUM of background checks and see he has insane racist shit and wacko far-right-wing bullshit all over his twitter feed.

This was an incredibly embarrassing hire for Harbs and the University.  Can't let this happen again.  Fuck racist prick Shemy and fuck his rape-enabling father.

wild that espn would publish this below quote from an anonymous source given it's obviously false. or if it's not false then whoever reviewed his social media and then was like "cool everything seems good here" should be fired too.

A source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN that Schembechler went through a thorough background check during the hiring process.

I checked this thread earlier and I could swear that reply wasn’t to you but was to a comment that wrote off the response to shemy as people being too overly sensitive and “woke” and implied that he didn’t deserve to lose his job. Then the troll was caved and now it looks like the reply was to you.

I can’t speak for anyone else but before I posted in the other thread, I just briefly glanced at his Twitter page and saw some of the stuff he posted (as opposed to what he liked) and most of it was your standard “Congratulations to [player] on a great season” stuff, plus a couple posts about his faith. I then posted that I thought this maybe wasn’t an awesome hire but probably not a huge deal.

Later I saw some of his likes.  Oof.

This fucker liked tweets saying slavery and Jim Crow were GOOD for black people. GOOD. LMAOOOOOO

RECONSTRUCTION was good for black people. Then the fucking racists realized it was TOO GOOD so they made the COMPROMISE OF 1877 to END RECONSTRUCTION and start all the bullshit we see til this day.

FUCK SHEMY.

You don't think reconstruction means Slavery do you?  Reconstruction was indeed good for Black people. The compromise of 1877 was indeed bad for Black people. I don't know who this guy is or what he said but I hope he said something more damning than this factual statement you've posted here.

The Cube is responding to the tweet, not quoting it. The tweet itself says this:

You should practice reading / comprehension.  And yes, slavery and Jim Crow forced the black family to strive and create businesses and cultivate a basis of wealth for themselves and their progency.  A reliance on handouts weakened the lower income black community and still does.

I'm sorry but that is some bull shit. We too often rely on statistical data or some hack that tends to support the pre-existing theory we already have or where we want the conclusion to be. Reconstruction did more for former plantation owners and those who supported the slave caste system than it did help slaves and their descendants, strive and create businesses. Far right people believe and spread this false narrative about handouts when the reality is former slaves were forced back onto the plantation and work 5 times harder in order to feed themselves. Let's not talk about men wearing hooded sheets coming to terrorize and lynch them, if they tried to leave or succeeded too much. The descendant's of slaves relied on hand outs no more than whites or any other impoverished ethnic group would have under the circumstances.

Black people and the slavery issue was something this country didn't want to deal with then, nor are they ready to deal with it now. Some folk never cared enough to take the time to delve into the issue. Instead they get a Thomas Sowell type to support this rhetoric about pulling yourself up by the boot-straps, prevents welfare queens, when the reality is to ugly to face. Blacks creating businesses was what resulted from a segregated society where the institutions of society openly discriminated against former slaves and their descendants for over a century while the government allowed it. Abject poverty has existed throughout the history of this planet but I don't believe that it has ever been villainized more that it has been by the descendants of those responsible for creating it.

No, read my response again. Reconstruction was good for black families. Their economic prowess grew quickly with northern troops down south allowing them to do what their white counterparts did. But racists didn’t want black people to become equal like that. Hence the Compromise of 1877 and Jim Crow.

I remember about 6 or 7 years ago (before the Dr Anderson scandal broke) - Schemy was on a podcast - I think it was “The Michigan Man”.

I was thinking, oh this will be interesting.   I was picturing that Bo’s son would be this ultra-impressive guy doing big things in the world with some really cool old stories about Bo and Jim Harbaugh and Rick Leach, etc…

Instead, the guy was this meek-sounding, self-entitled douche bag whose voice made you want to punch him in the face.

He was promoting his company that basically introduced high school football players who were not getting recruited to lower level (D2 and D3) schools.  Nothing wrong with that, honorable job - but I was thinking that it was weird (given the insane contacts he would have through his dad) that he wasn’t a coach or a scout or an exec or something for a D1 program or even NFL team.

i am betting that Jim was trying to do this guy a favor.  Probably figured Schemy could get some of those old time wealthy alums to kick into the team NIL collectives.  And of course it blew up in his face.

Does anyone else feel like they need to shower after going on Twitter?  I will go on there to check out a highlight or get an update on sports but that place is a fucking toxic waste dump otherwise. When I clicked on one of the links below - it took me to a comments section and I read like three comments and it made me throw up in my mouth.

It is literal insanity that a grown adult would spend time out of their day going through tweets and liking / responding the various trash on there.

I think everyone would be better off watching zero news and reading nothing but sports scores and watching “how to” home repair videos on the internet.

Would you be ignorant to the struggles of the world? Probably.  Ignorance is bliss.  Look no further than this thread where half the posts can be boiled down to “Am I doing this right, fellows of my chosen political party? Please agree with my view of the other half of the country.”

I vote Elijah Craig every Saturday night, and if you have a problem with that, IDGAF.

Yeah. I always find it interesting that people express their views in a way that would not only be extremely unconvincing or unpalatable to the opposition, but probably piss them off in a way that makes them unreachable or even retaliatory. Humans really love being validated by people who already agree with them. It makes us feel safe and secure. Nuance, debate and disagreement is the enemy of emotional safety.  Haven't seen all the tweets in question, but Ace cited a Ben Shapiro tweet and Vivek Ramaswamy tweet that Shemy liked as evidence of racism. I haven't seen all the tweets in question so I presume there must be some blatantly racist ones, but . . . yeah the political divisiveness can be batshit crazy.

Twitter has never held one bit of interest for me. I think of how many stupid people I've met in my life, and imagine the thoughtless shit that they say. Then I ask myself, "Do I have any interest in a tool that allows these morons a chance to reach a wider audience?"

From the tweets I've seen online, and the comments made here, I know I made the right call.

TLDR schemy thinks slavery and Jim Crow was a net positive for the black community.

so yeah glad to see him go and I think we need to seriously question Harbaughs decision making and his clear blind spot for the Schembechker family.

Isn't this also similar to why Frank Beckmann, the long time radio play by play guy, got canned? He said something about fried chicken representing the culinary ingenuity of slaves when Sergio Garcia made a comment about Tiger Woods. Some of his defenders are saying this isn't condoning Jim Crow, but pointing out that blacks had no choice but to work 10x harder to achieve the same or similar success as whites and often were still successful despite everything being against them. I suppose there is difference between celebrating someone overcoming all odds vs celebrating the horrible thing that caused them to have to overcome all odds. I personally don't see where he said it was a "net positive", but maybe the tweets in aggregate paint the picture. Aren't a  lot of Republicans against handouts and say the welfare state allows poor people to stay in a perpetual state of poverty,?  Im not saying I agree (I don't) , I'm just saying this isn't necessarily some fringe racist view unless I'm missing context. I'll take your word for it though. He worked for the NFL though right? I'm shocked that this stuff never came to light if he has a bunch of blatantly racist tweets out there. Maybe this is why he was fired?

JonnyHintz

I personally don't see where he said it was a "net positive",

Probably the part where it went on to blame welfare programs for the lower income black community becoming “weakened.”

So to sum it up, slavery and Jim Crow were good because it made people strive and work really hard to overcome hardships but it was largely undone by welfare program and has made the black community lazy… sure reads like the claim is it was a net positive.

That "they" is doing a lot of work in your post. Jim screwed this one up, plain and simple. I am a fan of Jim and like him, but the truth is that like most celebs, including coaches, he just shouldn't be looked to for moral guidance. We suffer terrible confusion about this in the United States, asking celebrities for their views and then being crushed when their views are disturbing and silly.

This one is, of course, on Warde, too. Few of us need reminders that he didn't handle the Anderson thing well. More egg on Michigan's face. If we're honest, we just don't occupy the moral high ground all that often. And when we do, it's in silly ways that hobble our programs.

Well, that was quick.

I didn't go through the twitter feed, but if there is material that recruits and their families would find offensive and also reflects poorly on the school, it is better to get this out of the way as quickly as possible.  The focus of this year needs to be on winning a championship, not dealing with a lot of  drama.

bronxblue

May 20th, 2023 at 6:56 PM ^

Good.  Can't have literally thousands of tweets he liked and shared displaying varying levels of intolerance and bigotry coming to light and expect to keep a job, especially one where you're a face in recruiting athletes.

He never would have gotten the job without his last name so it's doubly embarrassing the school didn't do even the bare minimum, seemingly, in looking into him.

bronxblue

May 20th, 2023 at 7:25 PM ^

Yeah.  I'm sure he doesn't espouse these comments as brazenly in person (if he does then what the fuck, Jim and Warde?) but as you noted he was liking just awful stuff this calendar year.  It would have taken absolutely zero effort to look into it; it's not even like he had some burner account and that's what was tracked back to him. This is his main one.

UM has made it clear they aren't any better than any other large organization - they'll do the bare minimum to not be yelled at publicly.  The fact they did made such an unforced error here by not doing a simple social media search is crazy.
