Shea: "R E L A X"

Submitted by Primo on

I'm glad he said it and I agree.  I was at the ND game and found myself afflicted with a bit of BPONE, but he's right.  Lets just get it rolling by the time the B1G season starts!

I always think it's comical when a fan stands up at the game and directs a negative comment towards one of our players.  You realize that he can't hear you, right?  And that everyone around you now thinks you're an idiot?  And he's out there, busting his ass to play his best. And he's 20 years old, playing in front of 110,000 people, plus television viewers.  And your idiotic comment is not helping in any way. So, if any of this applies to you, please, lighten the F up, Francis!!

True.

But on another note, I used to attend SJ Sharks games back when I lived in the Bay Area. In an NHL arena (not Chicago’s nor some other big ones), you can actually patiently wait for a half second pause in noise level during a lull of mid ice passing around and then yell something and I swear everyone in the place and on the ice can hear you.  Great heckleing fun!

"Looking that putrid"

We had the ball at the end of the game with a chance to tie against a top 10 team on the road. This was after a relative "meltdown" on defense to start the game, mostly against deep balls where we either had a man fall or be in the right position but falter.

No it wasn't up to my expectations, but that was because my expectations were about as high as they could be. This was by no means a putrid performance.

Last year in Happy Valley... that was a putrid performance.

I don’t think people who call that performance putrid ever played a lick of sports in their life—or were not well liked by teammates if they did have that kind of destructive criticism. They are implying that having a steady mindset and seeing the long term is “weak.” Shea believes his—his—team will get better and win win win. A winner believes in themeselvws even after a tough loss. A winner is not a quitter. That team fought back under tough circumstances. Yet they have 10 more games to win in a row and be back in contention.

Notre Dame is going to lose 3-4 games this year. Ball State showed that.

That was not a great team we lost to.

The offense was offensive. We scored 10 points on a team that finished last year ranked in the 50's defensively and got rolled by Miami and Stanford.

The final score didn't reflect the game. I mean we said this during and after the game to fans like you, that'd you'd make a souffle out of a dollar menu m nugget.

Oh boy.

“Notre Dame will lose 3-4 games this year. Ball State showed that.”

Except that’s not how it works. ND played a bad game. It happens early in the year. Especially coming off a high emotion rivalry win in a night game to open the season. We say this every year when MSU struggles with a bad team, then they go run the table (give or take OSU).

“The final score wasn’t reflective of the game” you’re right, just not in the way you think. Michigan outgained ND. And were it not for a few self inflicted dumb mistakes, the score is much different as well. A Chase Winovich late hit turned a 3rd down stop into a TD. Will Hart mishandled a snap that turned a chip shot FG into a loss of downs. That alone turns 24-17 to 20-20.

Do I think Michigan played particularly well that game? No. But when you really look at it Michigan outplayed ND for the majority of that game. And if not for a few key miscues at the worst times, you’re likely looking at a Michigan W.

for what its worth, as putrid as the team looked, they still had a chance to tie it up at the end. remember it was 21-3 for a few seconds.

sure, Michigan was a national power but that ended with the App St loss. Its been a tough 14 years and I dont understand how anyone can have lofty expectations of a NC title when youre not, and have not, been competing for a Conf championship.

how about win some road games against good teams first. Maybe start beating your rivals. Then start beating ranked teams, then win the division a couple times.

honestly, 1997 was a fluke. Just because Michigan went 8-4'ish three years in a row then won the NC doesnt mean that will ever happen again.

I concede that anything can happen but youre just going to drive yourself crazy expecting a NC team when they perform like a generic-bowl team year after year.

True, but Warde didn't have to schedule the home and home completely on ND's terms.  Maybe Harbaugh signed off on a Game 1 date at South Bend just so he could get the rivalry back, but it's such a bad deal for us.  I feel like it's Warde's role to meet Harbaugh's requests, but within reason.

Nobody looked at a revised schedule with Notre Dame, MSU, and OSU all on the road an determined that might be a bad idea?  Just tell Harbaugh, "Coach, I know you wanted to play the Irish, but they won't sign up for a game in Ann Arbor in 2018, and a road game in South Bend would give you 3 tough road games and leaves the fans with an even more unbalanced schedule for future seasons".

This idea that we had to give Notre Dame whatever they wanted to get them back on the schedule suggests we have zero bargaining power, which annoys me, because we shouldn't have that attitude.  We're the University of Michigan, we have some leverage we can exact in a negotiation.
