It has become pretty clear that OSU is much more focused on winning than we are, time will tell if the strategy works.   I think it will be a shock (pleasant surprise?) if we out-perform them in football/basketball the next few years with our current approach.

I'm not saying we should go "all in" like they have, but putting a little more effort into NIL would be a start.

Holtmann has a big buyout ( $17.5 MM). They must be printing money at Buckeye Capital Investment Partners, or whatever Ohio is being called now.

Juwan's seat has to be warm but he has as couple big recruits in the next class. Will Warde will follow suit soon?

Really amazing how good the schools are in football and many secondary sports and just have been total doormats the past couple years in basketball.

Had to read the article at the link to figure out what in hell the OP was posting about. I dunno why it's so difficult to simply post content with clear, unambiguous titles and subject blurb.

You're right that I didn't know who OSU's coach was—I don't follow basketball nearly as closely as I do football. The reason I read the article was because I saw the note that the title had been edited, so it piqued my interest. Otherwise I would have skipped it figuring that it was about some community college coach.

Tough crowd down in C-Bus.  I will freely admit that I haven't been paying close attention to MBB this season, or last season for that matter, but I thought Holtmann has done a pretty good job with mediocre rosters over the years.  College Athletics: Where Money is in and loyalty/tradition is loooonnnng gone.

I think OSU is better than almost all community colleges. OSU purports to have high entrance requirements in terms of GPA & test scores.

However, they can not attract enough students so they allow anyone to enroll in one of their satellite campuses and then transfer to the main campus after 1 year.

My oldest daughter took a semester of college classes at OSU while she was in high school.  She said the classes were really easy.

It appears the firing might be among the final acts by Gene Smith.

This will allow their new AD to focus on raising money - Texas A&M style.

Hopefully - he’s perfected the “Jimbo buyout” structure - and will use that in all O$U staff / coach contracts.

In 2022 Michigan was #9 in NIL and #7 in 2023. Not a lot money separating #2-10. TAMU was #1 in 2022 and University of Texas #1 in 2023.In 2023 #3 OSU spent $13.6million and Michigan $11.6 @ #7. Texas went crazy in 2023 they spent over $19 million whereas the #2 team Alabama spent $15 million. Their backup,Manning is well over $2 million and Ewers gotta be pushing $2 million himself.
