Salt Collection Thread

Submitted by Brhino on January 9th, 2024 at 11:42 AM

Folks this ice/snow/rain that's coming down right now throughout Southeast Michigan is looking dangerous.  This thread is for stockpiling all the salt being generated by the internet so that everyone that needs some for their driveway or sidewalk can collect.  Bring your own shovel.

Whatever, Georgia totally would have beat Michigan

That's right.  It's no longer about the results on the field.  We have reached the point where we can declare a team to be #1, and continue to consider them #1 no matter what!  Even if they lost!  Even if the team they lost to lost to Michigan!  Even if the team they lost to lost to the team that lost to the team that lost to Michigan!  Did I lose you there?  Work it out on your own!

Michigan cheated.  I know they fired Connor Stalions long before the meat of Michigan's schedule, but the damage was already done.

I love this one.  It supposes that, not only did Stalions' nefarious deeds given Michigan a decided schematic advantage (term copyrighted, I now owe Charlie Weiss 50 cents), but every single one of Michigan's opponents, each with multi-million dollar coaching staffs and legions of analysts and support personnel, declined to take any steps to mitigate the advantage, even though several of them had months to prepare to do so.

Michigan's lucky - Washington just happened to play their worst offensive game of the season.

Yes, they just happened to.  It had nothing to do with the fact that Michigan fielded a band of bezerkering d-lineman and skillful backs deploying a top-of-the-NFL level scheme that bewildered every single quarterback that went against it (to be fair, "bewildered" is the default state of being for like 80% of Big Ten quarterbacks).  Washington just played bad, so unlucky.

Michigan got away with all kinds of penalties.  Clearly they officials wanted them to win.

I saved my favorite for last.  The University of Michigan football team, the villains of 2023-24, the biggest cheaters in the history of the sport, the no-goodniks who shouldn't have even been allowed into the postseason, led by a man who is basically The Grinch in khakis, were the team that the NCAA decided they wanted to win the National Championship. Even though the NCAA is totally going to vacate it... annnny day now.  Just wait.  You'll see.

Did I miss any?

Reddit has a hive mind. There’s absolutely no source for vacated wins: someone just raised it as something the NCAA might do (because, let’s be honest, if they can break their own precedents and rules to fuck with Harbaugh, they will) and everyone latched onto it. So now “it’s known”

Also, people tend to like to decide the punishment first, and shoehorn a crime in second. Our own beloved commissioner did this same thing, by suspending Harbaugh and making up a reason afterwards.

There’s no point in engaging here. These people made up their minds long ago, and if it wasn’t for Stallions they’d STILL have a reason why this season wasn’t “legitimate” for Michigan.

These people posting about Georgia or Alabama or whoever being better must have missed the memo of how this system was designed to allow those disputes to be settled BY PLAYING GAMES.

They - and many of the other SEC fans - are in the same court as the Buckeyes.

Results on the field don't matter.    Because - well - it just means more...

Don't forget to look at recruting - Georgia, Bama, OSU, A&M, Texas, Clemson, LSU, USC, Oklahoma, ND, Oregon, Miami, and Penn State - are ALL more talented rosters than Michigan.   It seems like none of those thirteen teams - plays better as a team than Michigan.

Looking at that list - Michigan defeated three (3) teams that had more talented rosters - Bama, Ohio State, and Penn State.

I've seen this 'scheme' talked about like all of Michigan's coaching and games plans is based on sign stealing. Is this what they're literally saying? That's beyond ridiculous.

You ask the question, "Did I miss any?"

I'm sure you did as you cannot discount the lengths that naysayers will go to in trying to minimize how utterly successful this Michigan football team was in knocking opponents off of their gameplans.

The point is that If it wasn't Stallions being used as low hanging fruit, it's some other totally inept and made up delusion

They just cannot grasp that Michigan had the best football team in college football this year and they've got the hardware now to prove it.

I'm just glad we don't have to deal with the fallout of the garbage narratives. The Stalions thing was put to bed after OSU and doubly so after Alabama. OSU and MSU people will just never let it go, that's fine.

But Rece Davis (I think) and probably others were basically saying without a championship, the program basically wasn't validated. Like, we're just some imposters without the title.

A loss wouldn't have made us frauds. Glad I don't have to sit here and explain why.

That's some funny stuff there.

"Michigan was stealing Washington's signs earlier this year, that's why they won!"

Umm, you really don't think UW just maybe could have possibly changed the way they signal from the sidelines in the past two months since the whole Stalions thing came to light? Naw, couldn't be.

This is the kind of calm rational comment that they down-voted so much it got greyed out:

Michigan went 15-0 and beat every team on their schedule.  Congrats to them.  After watching them beat the likes of Penn State, OSU, Alabama, and Washington post cheating “scandal”, it would be hard to make an objective argument that they won because they were stealing signs from opposing teams.  The facts just do not support that argument.  I’m envious of Michigan.  They have QB, who Day passed on, who is a true leader and inspiration to his teammates; they are among the best in the trenches on both sides of the ball; their players play with passion and play for each other; and they have a head coach who knows how to win and get the most from his players.  If Ohio State wants to rise to that level we should focus more on what made Michigan successful and less on crying about the cheating scandal that wasn’t.

The best part of all of this is that they keep believing their own propaganda so much that it keeps them from fixing what is actually wrong.  "Nothing to fix here, Michigan cheated."

This post is dope.

We have brought some of it on ourselves as alumni and fan base, but the mantra of Michigan haters is truly laughable at this point.  Not everyone is like this, but the hater contingent has lost whatever minds they brought to the table, and they had so little they could afford to lose.

ESPN "experts" overwhelmingly picked WA to win the game.  The Athletic was more realistic. The money and the Books knew what was goin on.

Too bad basketball is such a mess.  Bring on women's softball!

"We have reached the point where we can declare a team to be #1, and continue to consider them #1 no matter what! Even if they lost!"

This illustrates the fallacy of the notion that going to playoff system would eliminate the controversy about who's really #1 that frequently was a feature of the old polls-and-bowls system.

The "Cheaters Do Prosper" crowd is alive and well on Twitter today too.

It's really funny because, at this point, it's difficult to know who actually has this breathtakingly parochial take on the state of affairs in college football or who is simply taking the lazy way out on trolling.

I honestly don't care about the salty people right now. The cheaters crowd stopped making sense after the yahoo, AP and SI articles that showed how widespread this was. Their narrative really makes no sense after M went through the meat of their schedule without signs and frankly bombed most everyone, except for the Bama ST unit.

Anyone else saying "well you didn't play Georgia" or "the refs" I mean...let them talk. We didn't just win the 'ship, we did so EMPHATICALLY. We are one of 4 teams in the modern era to go 15-0. In the CFP, you finish your season against two top5 teams. We are almost undoubtedly the best Big Ten team in the last 55 years, with the possible exception of the 1997 Wolverines. Seriously, someone whining "cheater" like a toddler just...doesn't phase me. They won't listen to reason. They won't ever admit they're wrong. They either have an agenda or SERIOUSLY don't know ball - like, I won't claim to be some genius but you have to willfully ignore what happens on the field to still believe it.

We have just witnessed the best season by a Big Ten team in 55 years. At least. We have just witnessed one of the best Wolverine squads of all time. Certainly, the most accomplished of all time. Which had 3 of this program's biggest wins of all time - The Game, The Rose Bowl, and the 'ship.

Let's spread some sugar, no need for salt

50-50 call. It was a stupid play, and he knows better.

Edit—this was supposed to be in response to Paige’s penalty. Not sure how it got here.

The best take I saw was Marlon Humphrey saying Alabama would have beaten both of these teams by 30.  He's a former Tide player so maybe not expecting more than that but a galaxy brain take nonetheless

This is the comment I've gotten most frequently from tosu or msu affiliated fans.  Something along the lines of, "UGGGGGHHH, Michigan just so lucky, every team they play has their worst game against them, Penix wasn't as good, Milroe wasn't as good, tosu played uncharacteristically bad, etc...".

I usually reply, "Huh, that's super crazy that teams have tough games while playing the undefeated #1 team in the country with the best defense.  Life is so random"

You can just tell them all that this is the best Big Ten team in 55 years, and sorry can't hear you because Mikey Sainristil just picked off your QB

Also, the best QB they faced really was McCord. Probably shouldn't have run him out of town.

This all just makes me think of Cade, who has missed an opportunity to ride with us through all this. How beloved would that dude be if he had stuck it out and supported the team, and think of the kinds of opportunities he'd have to STAY a part of this program afterwards.
